The "made up stuff" are the alternative facts you parrot.

Quote from: Scoop Snoop on April 14, 2026, 05:51:08 PMI was in the home of great grandson of Lee's cavalry general-Jeb Stuart IV-once on business. There were professionally built, lighted museum cases in one large room displaying the general's dress uniform and many other items.

There are still reenactments of Civil War battles-excuse me...the War Between the States...and my wife and I once saw what seemed like an endless line of uniformed reenactors returning from battle on horseback. It has only been in the past 10-20 years that any of the commemorative events and various activities has been questioned.

When I first came to Richmond in 1981, I remember being in a beautiful part of the park system and people quietly enjoying the band music. Then the band played its last number-Dixie. Suddenly the entire mood changed. People climbed on top of picnic tables, whooping it up, singing at the top of their lungs and dancing to the music. I thought I might be taken as a POW.

Today's Richmond is almost unrecognizable from that time, yet there are still Rebels in town.

How bout this rain eh?

Speaking of downpour and fast moving water...currently doing the prep for my first ever colonoscopy tonight so it's been great getting back in here and catching up with some of the shenanigans since I've been glued to the toilet for the last two hours.

The prep is by far the worst part.  Had one in January.

We had a hail storm at the office yesterday. My car is trashed. I don't know what repairs cost, but I hope it's not "totaled".

My car has been totaled twice because of hail damage. Somehow still driving it 5 years and tens of thousands of miles later.

I've got to admit, the more I think about it, the more I kind of hope it is "totaled." I think I'll probably just accept their money and keep driving it. The resale value will be shot...but who cares? I tend to drive my cars until there is no meaningful resale value anyway.

This is the way.

Totaled only means that the car would cost more to repair than it is worth.  And when you're talking body work, it adds up fast since there is a lot of labor as well.  Even if they're just replacing panels.

My kind of guy! I finally sold my 2003 Highlander a couple of years ago that had 290,000 miles on it. It was leaking oil and I thought I should sell it before it became worthless, as in locked-up engine or fried trans. We had just bought a newer vehicle and also have a 2010 Highlander (224,000 miles), so 3 vehicles for 2 people doesn't make a lot of sense. I got $2700 for it.

Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

I agree. My 2011 Highlander has 114,000 miles on it and I'm not expecting to have to replace it in my lifetime.  8-)

Scoop Snoop

Your Highlander with 114,000 miles on it is the kind of vehicle I would buy if we needed to replace our 2010. The 290,000 Highlander never had a single engine or trans repair. Two A/C repairs and the rear windows crapped out at about 250,000.

That's my view on it.  Plus you save a ton on insurance. No point in paying for collision insurance when they are only going to give you pennies if you get into an accident.

Thanks for mentioning dropping the collision. We did that. Why waste the money?
