They are the same people.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Just saw a pic of the new(?) Marquette University seal on Wikipedia.  Way too busy design overkill, as usual.  Ugh! What was visually wrong with the old one?

Does anyone remember drinking Rondo, the thirst crusher in the 1980s?

I loved that stuff.

Speaking of headshots (as some were doing in another thread), the Santa Clara Men's Cross Country headshots are fantastic.

Just stumbled across this site tonite (29 Sept. 2022) looking for information on the Avalanche Bar.

I worked there as a bartender/bouncer 82-84. Mostly evenings, but depending on my class schedule, sometimes opening at 6 am for the neighborhood winos - there'd always be a dozen or so standing around in the morning waiting to buy carry outs.

Mitch and Steve Lechner owned it and Wales on Wells when I was there.

Cops used to stop in once per week and pick an envelope from Mitch.

Kicked Chris Farley out on a regular basis.

I remember him walking up to a table of 3 or 4 preppie girls and asking them if they wanted to see his "elephant."

One of them was stupid enough to say yes.

Farley turned his front pants pockets inside out, unzipped his pants, and presented his "trunk".

Bounced his ass out onto Wells Street for that one.

Lots of memories.

A couple of them pleasant.

i did the same at hegarty's(jim hegarty wants you) from 78-81.  walked past the 'lanche every sunday morning 6 am on way to open heg's for the wells street winos and gesu ushers.  the sound of glass being swept up is forever etched in my mind.  the gesu ushers would rush over during sermons to push back a couple and a shot or 2, that came with the usual chasers, a pack of halls cough drops for their walk back

got to know old man jim.  what a throw-back.  a retired irish cop immigrant(he right way) looking all of 80 years old with a thick irish brogue. our job was to keep him from getting at his product as he was a legendary drunk.  needed to make sure we had the resources ready to carry him up to his apartment around the corner on such days.  and yes, he would give me a puffy envelope to hand to paul h., the alderman who took care of him i guess.  speaking of paul, big paul and his sister jean, got to know them well.

i remember walking into heg's a few years after graduation to see paul, a fraction of his previous size, all cleaned up.  what the...turns out kevin o'neil took him under his wing, gave him an unofficial role with the team and paul was "rockin & rolling" baby.  never seen him happier.  then right after kevin was "dismissed', paul sadly reverted back to his old self and was never the same.

jerry, jim's lawyer/accountant son who took over the building, put an addition onto the old building around 1983/84 that housed the infamous jerry boyle's law office.  i managed the building from 1982-86 and lived above jerry b's office for free, or for cleaning the fire extinguisher messes in the hallways and chase vagrants out of the basement.

lots of memories across from what eventually became the Al center.  oh yeah, and the infamous and very unfortunate tom copa "skitching" incident happened right below my apartment window.

A podcast about how the Honey Crisp Apple came to be because one man hated Red Delicious. I think it was originally from 2015, but Planet Money replayed it this week.

I ordered online from our local pizza place .. the website had an input for a tip and I threw them a few bucks.

When I picked up the pizza, they gave me a credit card slip to sign, and it had the tip I'd previously entered and a line for "Additional Tip."     >:(

We have done a lot of traveling lately and I am definitely suffering from gratuity fatigue.  We went on a tour recently and literally everyone was looking for a tip - I get it for the tour guide and the bus driver, but there was a tip jar at the buffet, near the guy playing music while we ate, even at the cash register at the gift shop.
