There are material shortages worldwide and copper is up $1/lb since November.  So why not run a scam?

Thanks for the laugh! I think all MU fans need a few laughs to counter balance the Wojo fiasco. They got the "totally unexpected choice" down perfectly.

What was the mascot going to be? A bar of gold?

I think people here were (jokingly) speculating that it would be a gold bar named Bricky.

Unpopular take: Gold was the best option offered at the time. Better than Golden Eagles. Marquette fans would be completely satisfied now with that as the nickname. The only better option was no nickname (which is still the most correct choice).

The Marquette Basketball Team.

Yup, or just Marquette. It works for the fight song, the "We Are" chant, and would've allowed those that can't let go of the past to still refer to them by old monikers.

I agree with this take.  I think Gold actually would have turned out to be a fine nickname and is still a better option than Golden Eagles.

This is the wrongest(tm) thing you've ever posted.  We were already the GE's which sucks.  Folks wanted Warriors back, which didn't happen.  And gold was:

Warriors was never an option. Gold was in the direction nicknames were going. Like Heat or Thunder. We've seen the repeated folly in naming teams after types of people.

Gold would've been unique, but would've faded into the background, like the Stanford Cardinal. A mascot could've been anything gold we chose and could've changed with the times. The fight song and "We Are" chants don't rely on a mascot.

The problem with the mascot debate is we act like it's important when it's not. We Are Marquette. The rest is superfluous. So go with the innocuous, fluid answer and you'll never have the debate again.

Hilltoppers was the best option.

But the whole nickname thing is something that I have cared less and less about as time goes on.  Frankly it seems silly for adults to be so passionate about it.

That's exactly why I think either no mascot or something that can be in the background is the best choice.

Would Marquette have had a "Big Blue" mascot similar to the Western Kentucky Mascot "Big Red"...?

A Blue and Yellow (TB) ThunderBug mascot for the Marquette Lightning?

or

A SUNY Empire Marquette Bluebird?.

The Marquette Tundra Swans? Blue Tundra Swans?

The Marquette River Lakes?

Agree. If it can't be Warriors, Hilltoppers would have made the most sense. But like you, I don't care nearly as much as I did several years back.

I'm trying to ignore Springing Forward/DST until tonight but Mrs. Hilltopper is refusing simply because she can't stand breaking the rules.

My reasoning is simple.  I like Sundays.  I want a full 24 hours of Sunday.

Mondays?   I will happily give up a Monday hour.  Who wouldn't?  Mondays suck donkey balls.  Getting Monday over with quicker would be a treat.

Next time you're on a flight and think you have the worst seat opponent, just imagine sitting next to this guy.

Apparently a Walrus fell asleep on an iceberg near Greenland and wound up on a beach on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland.
