Yeah, I think they eat those just so they don't have to smell them anymore.  I ate one while in Singapore a dozen years or so ago.  The smell is overwhelmingly bad that even though for some reason they taste OK the whole experience is not good.

I couldn’t stand the smell or the taste. I actually gagged after my first bite.

Language question .. I have a feeling using the phrase having a "come to Jesus" meeting is not acceptable in 2018, unless you're at the Vatican or something, right?

What's an equivalent?   And what would you say in France or Estonia, Russia or Isreal?

My mom used to eat Limburger cheese when I was young. It smells absolutely terrible. She used to say, “Once you get past the smell, it’s good.”  I’d ask her, “Why would you want to?”

I never did get past the smell.

The key to enjoying limburger is do not ever smell it, it is delicious and creamy as long as you don't smell the stink.

So you hold your nose and eat it?

I agree with this.  Ketchup is awful.

https://thetakeout.com/chicago-anti-ketchup-propaganda-expressways-1827630938

Sorry, but ketchup is a necessity on burgers. Don't use it much otherwise (I could go either way on fries depending on my mood), but ketchup absolutely enhances a burger.

Hot dogs are awful too.

As for the anti-ketchup thing...I agree that it doesn't belong on real sausages, like brats and Italians. But I like it on burgers, fries and such. So while it might be the "cool" thing for Chicagoans to say no to ketchup for everything, I'd bet the local grocery stores still sell plenty.

Yes. Are you grilling up frozen McDonald's patties?

I'm grilling meat that deserves to be tasted, not disguised.

If you can't taste the meat with those toppings, increase your patty depth.

Cheese (Cheddar, Pepper Jack...) and a slice of tomato.

Will also do the patty melt thing with mushrooms and swiss too.

Patty depth is perfect. You just have way too much stuff disguising your burger.

At least tell me you're not one of those people who think things like chocolate, whipped cream and flavored syrups belong in coffee....

So cheese and the main ingredient in any decent ketchup? I can live with that.

Speaking of patty melts, did anyone else find it frustrating that Charlie Brown was always so focused on the little red-haired girl (who never noticed him) that he was oblivious to the fact that Peppermint Patty would have done it with him in a heartbeat?

Before we get into an offseason brouhaha over the patty melt ingredients, a couple definitive sources:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patty_melt

Also Arby's had a Beef and Cheddar Melt.  It was temporary, but I found a review and it had onions:  http://ricksfoodcritique.blogspot.com/2009/10/arbys-roast-beef-patty-melt-for-501.html

Peppermint Patty was the chick in high school that liked you as a friend, but as soon as you starting to think it was more than that, it would have gotten weird.

My go to patty melt place allows you to substitute mushrooms for onions.  That is where my mixup occurs.
