I have heard of parents who have actually sold their house and moved to a one-bedroom condo as a last-ditch way to get rid of their freeloading kids.

I am not sure why this escalated to the state Supreme Court.  He doesn't have any more rights than any other person without a lease.  Just give the kid a 30-day written notice and start eviction procedures after that. If he ignores it, the sheriff escorts him out and puts his crap on the front lawn.  After the scavengers get the good stuff, you call 1-800-got-junk to pick up the rest.

I just don't understand how it could ever get to that point.  But then again, 2 nights over the same roof as my parents and I'd be going insane.  So maybe I am in a bad example.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Another article I read mentioned something in NY law where if the evicted party is a family member that it had to follow this process.

I am sure it's people who have been wussing out on being tough with their kids their entire lives.  You sell the house, the situation is out of your hands at that point.  Much easier than telling the kid they need to get the eff out of the basement because you're sick of him leeching off of you.
Have some patience, FFS.

Part of the issue is how you push independence in your children. We want our's to be independent, thoughtful and caring people living on their own and making sound decisions.

A child, or young adult, can't be independent, particularly thoughtful and caring if they're in a basement playing the latest version of Wackoworld. Our's know they can come home during the summer and for a short time after graduation. But they will work or be looking for work. Or else....

The best thing my Dad ever did for me was during my senior year at Marquette, he showed up in town, took me to dinner and made it clear that when I was graduated from Marquette, I wasn't coming home. I told him I'd rather die than come home -- I wanted to start my life. He grinned awfully hard on that one!

I lived in a roach infested, mouse-approved apartment for a year after graduation. The roof leaked (so bad that one night as the snow melted, the water running off the roof burned through the ceiling and dripped onto my face as I slept) and the Rottweilers next door serenaded me to sleep each night. It was a rough neighborhood but somebody had to live there!

Few of today's snowflakes want to do that. And even fewer of today's parents want to say goodbye to their children and cause them to live in communion with vermin. But it builds character and makes them appreciate what they have even more when they earn it!

Yep, and it often doesn't end well. Happened with my dad and brother, and didn't end until my dad had to go into assisted living. My dad was never good with rules or consequences. I got "lucky" and somehow found my way on my own.

Huh, I know dozens of "today's snowflakes" that lived in crappy apartments after college. I can only think of four who moved back in with their families. I must keep very rare company!

Brother TAMU, you very well must. Might be that pioneer spirit down in Aggieland.

I may have overreached a bit in criticizing Milleninials. But only a little. And I have to admit, I never missed a chance to fuss about my circumstances way back when during the time when I paid rent and the roaches freerided.

I can only imagine what the parents of we Boomers said about us!!!!!!!!

Man, I couldn't imagine living with my parents until 30. I moved out a week after I graduated high school and never looked back.

These two lines killed me.

"his parents were demanding he get a full-time job, health insurance and sessions with a therapist, but he said he "didn't need any of those things."

"... let me hang here a bit longer and use their hot water and electricity."

How hard is it to  just not be a leech? Was fighting this really worth the negative notoriety?

Let this be a warning to all you Scoopers living in your parents' basement...

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/30-old-ordered-vacate-parents-home-claims-harassed-093004235--abc-news-topstories.html

There is a kid (probably mid 20's) that spends $500 a week on lottery tickets at the gas station I frequent.

When asked why he buys so many, his reply was that he needs to win the lottery so that he can move out of his parents house.

Apparently, saving the $500 a week, or using it for rent never crossed his mind.

Generalizations of Millennials are often exaggerated.  Similar to the living in mom and dads basement trope to describe "snowflakes" was the idea that no millennial wanted to drive.  In that case, drivers licenses for 16-18 year olds went down something like 4 or 5%, but somehow a majority label was placed on these kids.   (this is admittedly growing more common yet in the igen, but still not a majority)

This is the same for the idea that many live in their parents basements and don't want to work.  For example, the labor force participation rate for cohorts just outside of college age have only gone down 2-3% since 2000.  Remember this is also the group that got hit the hardest during the recession.

Sure, this guy is a total freeloader and has no realistic perspective on what it means to be an adult with adult responsibility.  However, this by no means that he somehow represents the majority of Millennials.

Not that he had any to start with, but his long term dating prospects are taking a hit.  That said, like convicts in jail, maybe he will get a sugar momma out of this?

Let's not ruin this with generational generalizations.

Orange Cream shakes are back in season at Arby's.

At every Arby's, or is that just a generalization?

There was a Persian rug store that had a going out of business sale for a "limited time only" when I moved to Nashville to start law school. Three years later, the sale was still going on. Limited time in a geological sense, perhaps....

Do you think that there was like 2 or 3 rugs left that they were still trying to move after three years?

On a related note, I want to know why the purchasing manager at The Dump hasn't been fired yet.

Every single  week they run commercials that say, "Oh No!  We bought way too many [mattresses, sofas, dining room sets] and now were are going to have to take a huge loss by selling them for ten cents on the dollar!"

How does that place stay in business?
