Have you really lived if you don't have an obit like that?

I fully plan on writing my own obit when it's time for me to cross the rainbow bridge.  I just hope I don't croak while writing in on the sh!there and squeezing one out turns into an aneurysm, and don't get to finish it.

If I do go that way, my college roommate Joe will be given the pen to finish it.

Improve your fitness and longevity in just seconds (or maybe a few minutes) a day....

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/29/well/move/short-workouts-mind-body.html

In a year filled with Covid-related hopes, setbacks, advances and losses, the most vital exercise science of 2021 provided a reminder that for many of us, our bodies and minds can strengthen, endure and flourish, no matter our circumstances. If we move our bodies in the right ways, a growing body of evidence suggests we might live with greater stamina, purpose and cognitive clarity for many years to come. And it may not take much movement.

In fact, some of the year's biggest fitness news concerned how little exercise we might be able to get away with, while maintaining or even improving our health. A study from January, for instance, showed that just five minutes of intense calisthenics substantially improved college students' aerobic fitness and leg strength. Another series of studies from the University of Texas found that four seconds — yes, seconds — of ferocious bicycle pedaling, repeated several times, was enough to raise adults' strength and endurance, whatever their age or health when they started.

FWIW, I used to run for hours, then switched to cycling for hours. I was fit for sure, but I always assumed I needed to keep up my routine or lose fitness. Now I just workout for 15-20 minutes every day and am still in really good shape...and it appears I may still be getting more than I need to stay fit.

You're welcome.

I have always felt that various type of interval training got me in better shape than long, boring a$$ cardio workouts.

True about intervals...and I often did intervals (and/or hills) on my boring-a$$ runs and bike rides when that info came out years back. Definitely better than just steady pace the whole way.

But the novel thing I was referring to is the idea that you can do just a few "ferocious" bursts of several seconds long each, and then basically be done with your workout...and still improve your strength and endurance regardless of age or health when you started.

I still do more than that - a few weights and stuff - but I throw in a few brief "ferocious" (true max effort) bursts on a spinning bike now, and then head home after about 20 minutes total of working out.

Because many won't acknowledge it.

And if there is one person here who is firmly rooted in the past it is you, my friend.

You even went as far as to quote a post from FIFTEEN DAYS AGO.

Hey why not. Got up, drove up from Chicago, collects two checks and hopefully gets back home.

The New Big East is an awesome conference. But as said 10 years ago  MU went from haves in the Old Big East to have nots in the New Big East. Have been going to most MU games since the 1960's and for the first time am not excited to go to a game. Students are telling me they wish they did not choose MU. I saw 2 grade school girls crying after the Creighton game. We have no NCAA wins in 9 years and counting. We should of went to another conference but it is too late for that. What should MU do. Thank You for letting me vent. Go Marquette! I will be there again tonight as most always! We Are Marquette!

Indeed, it's interesting to see the rise and fall.  MU is plucked out of Conference USA and for several seasons, is in the top half of the BE.

The NBE forms, and new schools Xavier, Creighton, Butler (and now UConn) come in, and boom, they are top half teams and MU is looking up at these damn interlopers.

Ummm, if current students are telling you they wish they hadn't chosen MU:

1. Our problems run far deeper than the hoops program; and
2. They were pretty naive to expect that things were going to dramatically change after the last couple of years.

I totally get how a successful sports team can totally change the feeling on campus, and how a letdown from previous expectations is disappointing - I was a student during the Hank era in the early '80s - but when the team struggled I was FAR more focused on girls, drinking, girls, my grades and girls to let it get me that down. Wishing I had gone elsewhere just because we fell fast under Hank? Never.

And yeah - I get how the current situation is technically worse than we had under Hank. But the drop from before to after (Al to Hank; Buzz to Wojo/Shaka) was pretty comparable.
