Student attendance was horrific tonight. It was sad. I miss the old days. At half time you could barely tell there even was a student section. We couldn't even fill one whole section. Sad... come on fellow students jeez

Johnny B

overall attandence was solid but students.. just piss poor. I mean put the Netflix down for an hour

jsglow

Get back on campus and talk it up Johnny.  Be the trend setter.

Johnny B

My friend just sent me a pretty depressing photo about 15 minutes ago.

There were literally 5 people in the student section. If it wasn't on snapchat I would share it with you.

It wasn't five people, but it was pretty miserable.  One difference is that students would get to the game an hour in advance.  Tonight, the student section was almost empty at 6pm and the overall turnout was small.

And what's up with the band?  It's about half the size that it has been in the past.

Ardmore Mug

The student sect was poorly attended for sure. As for the band sect, The MU Women played tonight at 7:30 at the AL.  I will bet that some of  the band were  at their  game... ;)

UWM and GB draw more studnets. wth

2 hours beforehand.

warriorchick

Next week is exams. Maybe the  kids were studying to leave time to party on Saturday.
Have some patience, FFS.

In the old days you'd close the bars, go to George webbs and then head over to the Bradley center. Now days a couple hours before tip would do it.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Johnny, not sure what year in school you are but both my kids had the honor of leading the student section into the Bradley center for the Wisconsin game their Frosh year.  Neither was exactly first in line but each was picked out by officials/coaches out of the initial group to lead the charge.

In 2010 gametime was around 1p.  My daughter and some male/female friends arrived at Bradley during the Bucks game the night before, were escorted across the street to the Arena side and curled up in sleeping bags under the arena sign on the corner of 4th/State.  MUPD and MPD was aware of the situation and kept a watchful eye on them all night.  As the first girl, she lead the charge the next day.

Two years later my son was not to outdone.  In 2012 the game was at something like 5p.  He and a group of Abbottsford guys got down there at something like 4a.  Many, many hours later Buzz picked my son out of that initial group, had him help hand out food, and lead the students in.

By the way, both graduated in 4 years proving you can work hard/play hard.

Enjoy and cherish the experience.

In the old days, tuition was $5K a year and it wasn't a big deal if you flunked a couple of classes due to your drinking and had to take an extra semester.

I can't tell if this is a comment on my drinking that caused my 5th year or me saying old days.

So Bags, are you one of the famous guys from that era who was always in the front row with the boxing gloves on?

hah no, you can't drink beer with boxing gloves on! Sadly as famous as I am (just messing around) I never had a standout outfit outside of sophomore year when I used to wear an MU flag as a cape.

The Lens

When you eliminate FFP and try to be the Harvard of the Midwest, a good student section is the first thing to go.

This FFP never missed a game for any reason. Probably why 8.5 years to graduate.

Actually, I had no idea it took you five years.   I was trying to get ahead of the guys who claim that any student who isn't drunk seven days a week (as they claim they were), or prioritize studying over attending cupcake games is a pu$$y.

Hmm....since the rumor has always been that FFP consisted of students who didn't need financial aid, perhaps they should reinstate it as a revenue generator.

There was a women's game last night too, so they had to split the band to cover both.

I've noticed that the band seems smaller lately, but I think that will change with a) conference season instead of cupcakes and b) more winning.  A lot of bandos are there because they want to watch the team and being in band means consistent good seats (TAMU and I were great examples of this...he could hardly play the baritone!).  If the team is consistently good, the fans in the student section and the band (and the sweater vests) will come flocking back.

Might depend on the section and how many available musicians there are. We have a friend who has a kid in the band, and he only gets to play for half the games.

Warriors, Come Out and Playeeyay

<---- will gladly accept Student Section tickets and show up with as many 'students' as needed.

During the Al years in the early 1970's. they split the student season-ticket plans into Plan A and Plan B because the demand was so great. Didn't matter who we played, Arena was packed. To see what has happened is very sad.
