Bump.

Folks over in the "fair pay to play act" thread need this thread as an outlet, because the world surely will end if college athletes are allowed to profit off their own likenesses.

Speaking of doom predictions...50 years of daily doses of doom.  This was released yesterday.

I'm quite thrilled to have dodged all these near certain death events as we all are.  Some heady stuff in here from the Times, Ivy League institutions, scientists and other experts.

I devour a Milky Way everyday. The world hasn't ended yet. I also take Androgel, though, so maybe the double negative sends one wobbling off their trajectory. Who knows?

You buried the lede.  From the same article:

"This isn't the only collision threat facing the Milky Way.

The Large Magellanic Cloud will catastrophically collide with the Milky Way in 2 billion years, according to a study published January in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The impact, which study says is long overdue, has a chance of sending our solar system "hurtling through space."

"The destruction of the Large Magellanic Cloud, as it is devoured by the Milky Way, will wreak havoc with our galaxy, waking up the black hole that lives at its center and turning our galaxy into an 'active galactic nucleus' or quasar," said Marius Cautun, study author and postdoctoral fellow at Durham University's Institute for Computational Cosmology, in a statement."

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/america-pile-uneaten-bacon-biggest-220335498.html

Having too much bacon is not doomsday, it's the opposite!

But .. this shows how Big Bacon is screwing consumers.  A pack is often $8-10 and gets higher every year.

With this bacon glut, prices should come down, or the people should take to the streets.

For a few years, I've predicted that the US will have fewer than 50 states in XX years.  I don't know how many years XX is, but I think the probability is 100% fifty years out, and maybe just 25 years.
Admittedly, I don't think it will be a civil war with guns that changes the map.  There'll be a lot of angst and protests and maybe some militants, but by and large done by lawyers.

Any border state that contains Dayton should be an immediate candidate for Canadian annexation.

Wasn't there discussions to turn Californis into 3 states? ND and SD should just be combined. Same with Vermont and New Hamphire (I get these two mixed up anyway).

Im not sure that's what the poll said. The poll had them say on a scale of 0 to 100 with 100 being "on the edge of a civil war." The mean score for independents was around 70. That doesn't mean 70% of people think a civil war is likely. I think the only ones in that poll who could be definitively categorized as "thinking a civil war is likely" would be the ones who marked 100.

Maybe I missed something in the poll but I think people think the country is very politically divided,  not that a civil war is likely

Speaking of annexing and secession, jockey should be worried about western Canada breaking off from the east.  "Wexit" is coming.
