I'm putting this in the doom category.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/29/opinion/american-economy-working-class.html

TL;DR:  Great economy.  60% dissatisfied with the country.  Last year was the worst in a study for "well being."  Disappointment by the young.    Crisis of connection.

People, especially in the middle- and working-class slices of society, are less likely to volunteer in their community, less likely to go to church, less likely to know their neighbors, less likely to be married than they were at any time over the past several decades.

And they are dying. On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that life expectancy in the United States declined for the third straight year. This is an absolutely stunning trend.'

..And yet here we are — a straight-up social catastrophe.

Economic anxiety is now downstream from and merged with sociological, psychological and spiritual decay.

      16,399

the number of murders in mexico over the first 7 months of 2018??

this number shocked the bejeeeeebers outta me!!  that's a rate over 7 per 100,000.  by comparison, the usa is between 4-5 per 100,000

"But this time, Tatiana, a slim blonde who worked for a pharmaceutical company in San Francisco, returned home in a body bag, becoming one of the 16,399 homicides recorded in the country in the first seven months of this year, according to statistics collected by Mexican law enforcement.

Already, 2018 promises to be one of the most violent years on record in the country. Homicides shot up 16 percent during the first half of this year — a number that has been rising at an alarming rate over the last two years as splintered groups of drug traffickers and gangs battle for dominance."

what did this girl have to do with the war on drugs?  dumb luck?

There are very few murders in Mexico that aren’t between drug cartels. You are safer in the tourist areas of Mexico than in bad areas of major cities across the US.  :-\

Frank Kaminsky Carries Baby Down 40-Plus Stories During High-Rise Evacuation
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2810894-frank-kaminsky-carries-baby-down-40-plus-stories-during-high-rise-evacuation?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

Per Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, Kaminsky was playing Fortnite on Thursday when the fire alarm went off in his high-rise building. He grabbed a box of Cheez-Its and started walking but saw one of his neighbors was trying to take a baby and a dog downstairs. Kaminsky then took action and helped carry the baby down 46 flights to get out of the building.

That is still far lower homicide rates than in countries like the Bahamas (28.4 per 100,000), Jamaica (47.01), Saint Kitts (34.23), Virgin Islands (49.26), El Salvador (82.84), Guatemala (27.26). Honduras (56.52), and many others.  The average in the Americas is 16.3. Way higher than any other area in the world (Africa 12.5, Europe 3.0, Asia 2.9, average for world 6.2).

When we vacation in the uber luxurious all-inclusive resorts (we call paradise), we often never realize what life is like for the people living in those countries.

In other news, if single mother of eight can't make ends meet without being forced into pornography and having to fend off frivolous lawsuits from Gloria Allred, what hope is there for the rest of us?

And WTF is Vegan junk food?!?!?  That's a double dose of doom right there.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Doom/Arby's capitol of the USA:

https://www.apnews.com/f1915b8dafdb462986883142ed2ccac6

Maggie Hill .. ticked off the many deaths that have befallen her family: An older brother drowned in a flood in 1977. A sister died in a house fire. Two siblings, both smokers, died of lung cancer. Two others were stillborn. Her first husband died of congestive heart failure.

Then there were the suicides. Two of her three sons shot themselves to death, one of them after losing his job. Her second husband died the same way, using a gun in their bedroom closet one Sunday morning while she was still in bed.

“I don’t think people have a lot to live for,” she said. “I really and truly don’t see things getting better.”

And for my wife's birthday tonight...we're headed to a memorial service for her best friend's husband, who committed suicide.

It's a quiet epidemic.  I wonder if there'll ever be a time in the future where suicides will be reported on the news, like other non-natural death.

At least they were smart enough to keep guns in their homes so no one could break in and cause them harm.

Suicide and opioids, two sides of the same coin really, are two large reasons the life expectations for Americans is dropping.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

I like that.

Considering this is a Daily Dose of Doom thread, replies should tend to be a bit sardonic  :(

There was just a story on this re West Virginia as the bell weather.  WV has been about 10 years ahead of national curves, first in terms of obesity, then diabetes, and now opioids deaths.  Life span for WV residents showed a downturn ahead of the rest of the U.S.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.
