Quote from: Mu8891 on May 23, 2026, 12:51:21 PMMaybe he can play / maybe he can't ..

But SS is 0 for 4 on " project " bigs.

Keeyan, AL ( now at UWM ), Hamilton and
Clark. So ... I will remain skeptical.
Al amadou wasnt a project. He was a 4 star recruit who underperformed. Really underperformed

Nope, he's a project. That's all Shaka recruits.

Quote from: Johnny B on May 23, 2026, 04:39:51 PMAl amadou wasn't a project. He was a 4 star recruit who underperformed. Really underperformed

According to 24/7, he was ranked 151st and listed as a 3-star. Rivals ranking was similar, ranking him 143rd and a 3-star.

For a program like Marquette, that's project ranking.

What does Rick Barnes/Tennessee know about big men? Let me know when a high major offers the kid.

From On 3 regarding Pemberton

His recruitment has really taken off........lots of new offers it seems

Marquette: "Marquette, they reach out the most out of any college, I would say. They came for an in-home visit, I think around March. They were at my house for an in-home visit. The relationship with them is growing even more. Shaka (Smart) calls me like every week. He tries to call me or just even reach out to see how I'm doing. And Coach Cody (Hatt) talks to me like every day, just asking me how I'm doing. So definitely the connection there is really, really high."

How does this happen? NJ moves on? No way a t-50 comes to come off the bench for 1 or 2 years (or that we pay top-50 coin for that) right?

Today, I don't think you can bank on sh1t as a recruit. Just bc a team doesn't have great guys at your position today doesn't mean they won't tomorrow. Lots of guesses to be made for kids/professionals.

Sooooo.... excuse my ignorance, but have we signed him or not?

Pemberton would be an awesome add, especially if the league scouts (or Duke) start sniffing around NJ in 2027 or 2028. I'm obviously hoping Nigel stays 4 years (or even 5) at Marquette because that could legitimately result in a Final Four appearance, but nothing is promised in today's era and it's good to stack as many prospects as possible.

SchnitzelBoy

Akol Nyok has received an offer from Tennessee. That OFFICIALLY puts him out of the same category as Josh and Caedin. Those dudes had very little D1 opportunities outside of Marquette, and this kid's already heard from Rick Barnes and Josh Scherz.

Doing the whole sign-reclass-redshirt route for next season isn't the ideal situation, but it's better than losing out to Tennessee or SLU in the recruiting battle. And hey, maybe he'll stick around for his second year and play for MU when Sananda Fru runs out of eligibility.

It is only an scholarship offer.  At least from everything else I've read...

So we are heavily involved with Cleveland, Pemberton, Jaxson Davis and Micah Gordon

Micah Gordon from On 3

"Definitely Marquette, Providence, and VCU are definitely recruiting me the hardest right now," he said. Tennessee and NC State are making the jump, just recruiting me a little bit more as time goes on. Somebody new that hopped into my recruitment is Michigan State. So we're just starting that process now, but everything is going fine."

Marquette is staying in consistent communication
Marquette is one of two schools Gordon has already taken an official visit to, along with Oklahoma State. What's standing out to him about the Golden Eagles program?

"Definitely the communication part of it," he said. "Like how much I stay in contact with them and how much I reach out to them. Just talking to them, knowing basketball and stuff. Obviously they came for a home visit. Just talking to them while they were here. It was just something that I wished for, just to talk to Coach Smart. It was amazing. Just getting their basketball minds and just talking to them, texting them almost every day. I think it's the communication part for real."

Marquette is the lone school that has conducted an in-home visit with Gordon to this point, showing he's clearly a priority for the staff.

The Golden Eagles extended an offer to Gordon last July and hosted him for an official visit in November. He discussed his time on campus.

"It was high-level stuff. Practice was high-level. Facilities high-level. They obviously played in the Bucks stadium, so it was good for me. Honestly, I think Coach Smart and his energy, it was how I like to play and  I saw how he'll get me hype for games and just practices and stuff."
