That's a really nice spacing of talent across 3 classes.  Add in the fact that we're in on some major studs in 2027, I like how this roster is shaping up.  Need a PG in 2027, but the athleticism and length is wild.

Nash Walker is also somewhere in the mix, depending on when he arrives at MU and if he is a RS candidate.

Quote from: Its DJOver on Today at 10:44:50 AMSo who are the early speculative candidates to red-shirt next year? We're full up and I don't foresee a 15 man rotation.

My guess - Nash Walker. Johnston is a candidate, but he is also a top 90 guy,  so not likely.

247 lists Johnston at 146. If the rumors of Walker coming in January are true would he wait a year and a half to play? Good problems to have but questions nonetheless.

You didn't list Australian recruit 6'6" sharpshooter lefty Nash Walker.

ah my bad - i read that wrong with Johnston!

Johnston is the obvious redshirt candidate to me.  Very skilled, but very skinny and the jumper needs work.

I tried to replace the first with the second but messed up. Glad Shaka didn't mess up the recruitment!

I'm pretty confident that in the very near future all these Big East fanbases clowning Shaka for his strategy will be wishing they had what we had. Aside from UConn of course.

St. Johns has a short window with Pitino and everyone else is kinda needing results fast to avoid hitting any kind of panic button. Shaka has an established formula of success that no other school in this league has outside of UConn and then Creighton who has McDermott on the way out very soon.

Speaking of Creighton, there are whispers that their big-time 2025 HS recruit Hudson Greer may transfer.  He committed, then Creighton got Austin Swartz and Blake Harper as transfers, as well as Fedor Zugic getting cleared for another year of eligibility.  Now it seems like Greer may redshirt and/or transfer because of it?

Point being, the transfer portal does present obvious issues that Shaka's method avoids.  I've definitely been a critic of us not utilizing the portal, but as long as we keep stacking our classes with talent like Egbuonu then it's much easier to stomach.

It took me longer than some here, but I've fully switched my stance on the portal within the last year and now completely embrace the way Shaka is doing it. Really hope some of these schools start getting burned more frequently on the recruiting trail and with their young players.

If we lost 3 players to the pros in a given year, Shaka will use the portal to plug some holes and balance the classes but recruiting over your young players with just random players seems crazy to me now. The portal is also a great tool to use for coaching changes as it's definitely more feasible now to use it to slap together an NCAA contending roster like Shaka did in his first year. We'll face a team that did just this in a few days. So, it's good for the game in a lot of ways but really like how Shaka is building this program. It's a joy to follow.

Indiana played 6 guys 20+ minutes in their opener. All of them are seniors. So even if they do get off to a great start in the DeVries era, it'll be a near total rebuild next year as well. I definitely like this method of roster building better.

I look at these first two games and it's so clear that we have future defensive stars at the point (NJ), wing (Stevens), and center (Clark). Their games need polishing and it might take a year or two before they're all starter-level ready, but it's awesome feeling confident that not only do we have these guys, but we will likely have them their entire college careers. It might require more patience, but having a constant flow of upperclassmen who've grown in this system is going to be a blast to watch and give us a consistently high floor.

And it is something to be proud of. I love the fact that the players are actually a part of the school, and that the fans get to watch kids come in and grow on and off the court. I take pride in what MU is doing and that the school is leaving an imprint on the players as people and not just athletes who pass through for a year or two.

Why would he have to wait a year and a half. He could redshirt this spring semester and play next fall, unless I don't understand the rules as I thought that is what Joey Hauser did?

Shaka is relieved that you can stomach his philosophy. He had been quite concerned.
