Can we lock this one up at 1500 pages for the year then, or will Shaka surprise with an unknown?

Boozer kids commit to Duke.  Twins Cayden and Cameron.  Five-stars both.  Cam appears to have the higher upside.

Duke doing just fine sans K
Ramsey head thoroughly up his ass.

MUbiz

Duke is recruiting great, but not getting the March results the program got under coach K. We will see if that changes this year.

Personally, I think the jury is still out on this one. They certainly have not fallen off when measured by how many stars recruits have. I am just not an "it's all about talent" guy. (Wojo recruited talent, which turned heads among some MU faithful that believe it's all about star ratings.) Maybe Scheyer proves to be a top recruiter and a top coach. We'll see. Duke certainly will continue to have a lot of turnover each year and a lot of four and five star guys riding the pine.

How often do you think Coach K was providing coaching that made Duke greater than the sum of its parts toward the end of his career?  I don't think he was necessarily throwing the ball out there like Calipari, but after his last championship, I didn't come away with the idea that he was providing the same level of coaching as he had earlier.

I'll take my chances with a bunch of 5* talent.

K wasn't coaching at the same level he was post-15 and I'd argue post-10.  He had lull's throughout his career.  Post-Grant Hill comes to mind and post-JJ Reddick was a bunch of disappointment until 2010.

The larger point is, a lot of people wondered about Duke getting talent.  That hasn't been an issue at all.  And if Scheyer does get bounced, the next coach will still have the Duke advantage.

Coach K also had detractors until they shocked UNLV in '91, too.

I didn't say talent was irrelevant, but a coach still needs to be able to coach, keep guys happy, recruit compatible pieces, and develop talent. Hell, Pat Kennedy and Billy Tubbs were great recruiters (at least for a while). Wojo was very good at getting the guys he targeted. As for Coach K, I would agree. His last title team couldn't play man-to-man defense but overcame that with three(?) lottery picks. I still think the jury is out on Scheyer and Hubert Davis. Davis didn't even make the tournament his second year despite the load of talent on his roster.

No doubt you're right about the recruiting level under Scheyer. That said, I didn't have much doubt about their recruiting. They have the name and the NIL $. Kids think coaches are interchangeable.

I have claimed for years here on Scoop that K and Calipari were highly overrated as coaches. Instead, they were great recruiters. But they were often outcoached against teams with lesser talent.

A guy like Stevens at Butler was a far superior coach who could win with less talent.

While talent still trumps all else. The problem in college is that it is always young talent on teams like Duke and UK.

I think a younger Coach K wasactually a real good coach.  Ran a lot of great offense similar to his mentor, Bobby Knight.  Early in his career, those teams ran great offense.  It's part of what helped beat UNLV.  The Rebs simply couldn't get stops against them.  Much better and disciplined play versus the matchup the previous year.

Late stage K teams weren't as disciplined and sloppy, especially on defense but a chunk of that is almost certainly based on roster management.  Young teams aren't as disciplined typically

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Scheyer is still in the honeymoon period, the Duke brand still carries a lot of weight (especially for recruits that had the Duke prestige imprint their brains at a young age), and of course, a robust NIL program.

But sooner or later, Scheyer has to actually prove himself on his own merits.  He can only ride Coach K's coattails for so long.

I'm betting the fanbase's patience runs out faster than the recruits'.

The guy has a .750 win%, conference tourney championship and E8 in two years.  His seat isn't exactly warm.  If he doesn't break through to at least a FF in the next few years maybe folks start to get restless, but it's not like he's fallen flat on his face out of the gates.

To be clear,  I wasn't suggesting his seat is hot just that the fans would have a shorter fuse than recruits.

People need to watch the 2006 US Greece game, specifically the pick and roll D, when thinking about Coach K as a coach.
