I had heard MU had a very solid chance of landing him a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what role NIL played, but heard he received some serious offers, included from UW. The number I heard from UW was big time coin.

Yes. Marquette was the leader going into the September visits. Not sure what pushed UVA out but Duke got it with a late push.

You're always the leader right after your visit.

Until the next visit happens.

kinda means nothing

Big time coin for UW, is  Marquette upper classman/ UVA transfer target money. It is still less way than duke.

UW spends their coin on football not basketball.

I am not sure I agree completely with you. The number from UW was a real offer and I hope our top guys getting similar.

Unsure what the quoted number was exactly. I doubt the veracity of it, because I am unsure why any school would want their figures to be public. Unless you are the Life Wallet guy, you need to keep your lips tight.

I do know about another recruits this summer. UW, Marquette, and UVA all offered.

That recruit looked at NIL a bit. UVA's was the largest. Marquette's was the second largest and it was their "standard" amount due to age and because their wasn't a clear need for them. UW's was "easily" third.

I would say that I trust the number I heard from UW at a very high level. That said, I do not think MU lost Kon simply due to NIL money.

Agree Goose regarding Marquette. But also agree Brew We saw McIntosh last week entering a building. Wish Wisconsin would do better in Football and make the playoffs Frustrating Wisconsin lost to Washington State in Football ugh.

I could tell when I was at Kon's visit he wasn't going to commit.  Bad body language the entire time

Are the rumors true that Wojo was texting Kon about the wonders of Duke on Kon's MU visit?

Not in this case.

What is this "all time" UW number? What is the figure?

If it is that high, why did they save it for Kon instead of grabbing a top 5 (non Hunter) transfer? Seems weird.

4everwarriors

Reading all the bullchit here how MU will be just fine without Kon. That's true, however, at some point "fine" isn't good enough. Homegrown talent like this doesn't come around very often and ya have to take advantage of it. This is not an indictment against Shaka. But, Kon would have looked good rockin' da Blue and Gold, aina?

Agreed it sucks. But the long term play is winning big this year and start winning some of these battles against blues bloods in the following years.  Shaka and MU have a chance to do damage this year in the tournament. If they do, MU will win these recruiting battles in the near future.  Need a track record of tournament wins to get this done.

I don't know why Wisconsin staff and boosters make the choices they do. But NIL package alone wasn't the deciding factor, or he'd be going there.

If they offered significantly more than Duke and still got turned down, they should consider a changing their staff. That is some of the most irrational recruiting i have ever seen.

Months ago, UW lowballed the two kids from Wisconsin who transfer into high majors, and then decided to offer Kon nearly 3 times what those two each ended up getting? And they never felt the need to get involved with Grant Nelson? Now they are running back the same team they had last year + AJ Storr ?

None of that makes sense to me.

I think the Kon recruitment was about more than just Kon. He's the oldest of five brothers, all of whom the family hope are going D1. The more disappointing pic in Kon's announcement wasn't the first one where he's declaring, but the second where his brothers are all standing next to him with Duke trophies in their arms. Might be Bucky was trying to invest in a homegrown Plumlee line.

Rankings are overrated. Did Henry Ellenson change MU's trajectory? How about Dawson Garcia? Or JaJuan Johnson or Joey Hauser? Yeah, it would have been nice to land Kon, but the program and culture is way more important than whether you're recruiting the No. 15 prospect versus the no. 75 prospect.

Recruiting brothers sounds better on paper than it does in practice.

I'm sure they are great but you don't make an insane NIL offer because they have brothers seemingly 4 years younger than them.

Gotta say the picture of Kon and his brothers was a bit cringe-worthy, but to each their own.
