Very cool story Hoop12.  We appreciate the inside information on Olsen and your take on Majerus.

I second that. Thanks for the perspective.

Man, do I wish this to be the case. Unfortunately, I have seen this movie before.
.
...with Bo Ryan.  Not with Gard.  This team is Johnny Davis and Brad Davison...and nobody else that averaged more than 5 points a game and only 2 guys who played more than 10 min a game last year.  Unless the transfer from Wake who averaged 4 and 2 is gonna be a surprise star, I just don't see them having the weapons.  Their recruits aren't all that special, maybe Ben Carlson is suddenly going to make a leap.

Gard has won(shared) a Big Ten regular season title with a team not projected to do much...mid-pack. If UW is in fact down, just too bad we aren't stout. Oh well, hopefully we can win the head-to-head again this year.

You have to add Wahl to Davison and Johnny Davis.   The Wake Forest trransfer, the Cincinnati transfer, Crowl, Carlson may be possibilities and have heard that the freshman from Nebraska and the freshman from Estonia have been impressive.  Hard to know unless you are at the practices and thats not even game action.  Similar in some ways to Marquette.

Badgers consistently look weak on paper going into their seasons. They have a system and develop players to play in it. They reload. Have to wait and see how they play before an assessment can be made.

Gard had a mutiny in his coaching staff in 2020, and despite his extension, the AD hasn't made a Football or Basketball coaching hire yet. They should be a bottom half team in the big 10 this year.
Being in the bottom half of the Big 10 could still be an NCAA tourney bid.

Sure, but even though that team lost Happ, they returned 3 of their top 5 scorers and 5 guys who averaged 20+ minutes.  Very different IMO than this returning squad.

Whats special about Wahl?  Wasn't a highly touted recruit and hasn't done much in two years.  Other than playing well against NW, he's not scored much at all despite consistently playing 25-30 min, not sure why you'd suddenly expect him to start filling it up.

Neath, the Wake transfer, did nothing on BAD Danny Manning teams.  He had more games where he scored 0 points than scored more than 5.

Vogt from Cincy is like a worse version of Jayce Johnson.  He was decent in the pandemic year after transferring from NKU, averaged 11 points, but last year he was beyond mediocre, 5 and 3.5.  He's 7'1 and only has 1 career game with more than 10 rebounds against non-low major competition, and less than 5 double digit rebound games total in his 4 year career.  Not much of a shot blocker either.

Listen, I could be wrong, its happened plenty of times, and obviously nobody knows about freshmen, but there is nothing in common with previous "surprise" Badger teams other than playing at the Kohl Center.  That expectation exceeding team in 19-20 would probably be favored by 8-10 early in the season (before they won the B10) against this squad.

New 2023 offer. Devin Royal, 6'6 wing out of of Ohio. AAU teammates with Sean Jones. Currently unranked. We appear to be his fourth high major offer (Xavier, Penn State, and Kansas State).

Wisconsin is in the same position as MU, freshman point guards, questionable bigs, both teams are very young.  We will see who can coach them up!  The Wisconsin transfers are just bodies, fill the roster, I do not expect much from either one.  Davis might be a star.

Thinking the same about Davis -- definitely looks like a potential standout. If we had him, we'd be singing his praises here.

If he has a breakout year, Madison might have enough OK role players to have a decent season.

If Davis isn't all that, Madison could be quite bad.

i don't know how hard Wojo recruited Davis out of HS in La Crosse (there was a sibling factor) but he's got All Big Ten written all over him. He'll be really good this season.

If Davis was taller he'd be tough, but as a too small forward and a guard who can't dribble, he's a "tweener," who can't dominate.
