in other words, a solid 5/6 place team in the BE?

This is where coaching, player development, system fit, player retention, and player mindset unaccounted for by rankings enter the equation. Let's see what Shaka & the assistants have in store for these guys by the time they're upperclassmen.

In theory this is the exact model I think can result in sustained success for a program like MU

If they’re good, they’ll be at their third school, somewhere warm, making big NIL bank, aina?

This kind of patient, level-headed thinking has absolutely no place on Scoop. Shame on you!

Agreed. One less than stellar class does not define a program or Shaka's tenure. I have full faith Shaka will be attracting 4-5 star players going forward.

In addition, we'll see in the long run how the classes are. I've long thought that Bo Ryan was one of the best recruiters I've seen because he identified the players that best fit his system and he was able to develop. There's a skill in identifying the Frank Kaminsky, Jon Leuer, Jordan Taylor types and turning them into all-conference players. Maybe after 2-3 years, the class will be regarded as better than the recruiting ranking because of actual performance in the system, not just star rankings before any of them pull on a college uniform.

Agreed - and why I didn’t think Wojo was the great recruiter others believed him to be. Chasing big time recruits and signing a couple is one thing, but changing your philosophy and selling out every time a big time guy is interested is not program building.

Find guys who fit what you want to do and develop over time. I hope in this day and age, it’s still possible. P

Still can't believe we didn't at least ask Phil Jackson and John Calipari. Plus, Bill Russell was available then, too.

I implied neither. But, what has MU done in the last 10 or so years? Other than the national spotlight on Markus Howard, a few nice individual wins, it’s been lean. I’m hoping for better days. Looking forward to 82 buying me a beer in Ft Myers. I’ll wear a MU shirt for easy ID.

This is where global warming will be a big benefit to MU.

The Wojo years are irrelevant in regards to where Shaka takes the program.

I agree for the most part.  But, the Wojo years hurt with regard to recruiting a bit.  Much easier to recruit with a generation of kids watching MU in the sweet sixteen and elite eight rather than occasional first round blowouts.

But Shaka is his own man and deserves leeway to get the job done.  No other choice.
I love his personality and perspective and hope he can take these players and this fan base on a great ride over the next several years.

I agree with this analysis
Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.
