Gronk had about 6 guys jumping on him at once.  Seattle loses so they have to start a fight right before it ends.  Complete joke.

He smacked a dude in the helmet before that.

Oh. Absolutely. But my question still stands as any punch thrown in a game is supposed to result in an immediate dismissal.

1. No concussion protocol for Edelman but there was for Avril?

2. Only one person tossed during the scuffle at the end? Gronk, among a couple others, absolutely threw a punch.

That was baffling.  After that helmet shot at mid field he was clearly stumbling for several plays in a row.  I think Al & Chris mentioned something about his hip, but it seemed pretty clear he was trying to shake the cobwebs out.

It's the Super Bowl! Valuable players don't get concussed in important regular season games let alone the Super Bowl.

Exciting game, which when I don't have a dog in the fight, is all I really want.
More importantly, scoop correctly predicted the outcome.    It's time we start making some money on this.

There was 30 seconds left in the game.  I am sure the refs just wanted it over by that point.

Then why toss the Seahawks player? Just throw a few personal fouls and call it a day.

Because he was and idiot and started a ridiculous, unnecessary melee. Because with the game over he showed extremely bad sportsmanship. Because he was a total tool. It was a great game that the Seahawks tried to ruin by starting a fight in the last 30 seconds. The least the refs could do was to publicly embarrass the instigator, call him out for the jerk he was and toss him so he gets a hefty fine. Rule or no rule, to equally penalize New England players for defending themselves would have made a mockery of the situation.

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.
