Available on cd if you know where to look. the link below is just audio and still photos. The 1st half (before the evacuation is much lower SQ) the 2nd half after they got drunk at the PPPPFISTERR is soundboard and starts at the 40:47 mark

This was a great show. The band was drunker than monkeys (you know how drunk they can get) and tore the roof off the place when they returned around midnight. We were freshmen and had to call our RA and convince him to come and join us because the bus stopped running at midnight and we didn't have a car and didn't want to walk back in the early AM when the show would have ended. He owed us the rest of the year.....

I did a tour of duty in the basement of Schroeder.  I remember toting some of my favorite albums to the basement Sunday mornings.

There was a DJ from the 10th floor named Tom. Beard, freak flag, perpetually stoned. Played nothing but Yes.

Honestly the only difference I saw from that McCormick video and the McCormick I lived in my freshman year was that they took away the built in closets. We fit 27 people in one of those elevators once...

I was on a vator in Schroeder that had way too many people on it. It reached the 1F but as the doors began to open it dropped about 5 feet. We were stuck there for almost an hour.

Guy named Dave Bolger ran for ASMU President. People wrote, "The guy who makes the underwear" on every single poster. Dave ended up winning.

You must have been on 10 the year of 78-79.

We have mutual acquaintances, Eggert, Finnegan, Rocky, etc.  Do you remember Flip and Crash on 10 S?  Or Rob and Pat, both from Cleveland?

We talked about Pete Eggert. His father was an Admiral at Yokosuka NB. I also knew Tom Finnegan; Fins was from Cleveland. I think he had a really good looking sister at MU. Of course, Rocky was a bud. Flip and Crash escape me at this time...

My freshman year, McCormick was all male and we were in the penthouse on the top floor.  Some idiot late at night \ early in the morning crashed in the elevator doors so that they were hanging and could have fallen down the shaft.  Very fortunate.  No one owned up to it, so our entire floor was billed for it...each of us had some flesh extracted for that one.

Helluva memory.  I couldn't have come up with that on my own.

Acts you all might remember down in the grill besides the BoDeans (after my time as I recall) and the Femmes include:

- Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows
- Koko Taylor
- Magic Slim
- Arroyo
- X-Cleavers
- Badboy
- Pat McCurdy and the Men About Town
- Snopek

and many others I simply can't remember.  Milwaukee had a vibrant live music scene back in the day.  And the Grill time slot was perfect for bands because they would typically have a second gig that night, even if traveling from Chicago as was the case with the blues artists.

One quick story.  We were thisclose to having Survivor inked for the 1981 Party of the Century.  We were literally in meaningful negotiations with their agency when Eye of the Tiger went to #1.  Our checkbook never had a chance.  But can you imagine that out in the central mall?

Loved Arroyo - I became a fan of the SoCal Rock scene due to my roomie's influence and Arroyo fit right in.

I was in the apartments right next to M&I Bank, across the street from the never creepy Biller Hotel. Cambridge Apartments, I believe.

We were in the St. James Court apts.  We had the last unit on the first floor.  Same floor as atty Alan Eisenberg - great party apartment.  Trashed our share of disposable goodwill furniture there.

You and I must have passed each other many times.

Did you attend Friends nights at the Pub?
Dance on the hardwood at Ziggy's?
.................

Tower912 did hit on something I thoroughly enjoyed while at MU:

WMUR.

I wasn't even a Comm student but I was able to hit the radio waves with a buddy who had a time slot (he too was not a Comm student). To be able to share the music we enjoy (hi-energy, dance, freestyle, latin, hip hop, rap) with a niche audience that never got that (except for hip hop) was a highlight of my 4 years there. Part of me wishes I had gone into radio/broadcast, but I was able to fulfill some of that doing WMUR.

Friends night? Absolutely not. Not sure I ever danced.. more like stumbled around... BUT.. WMUR, nice call on that. One of my best friends still today was the station manager for a year.. we did a show together and I did one of my own. Later (shortly after graduation), he and I would reunite and the "real" airwaves of Milwaukee for many years.

I'm sure the equipment has been upgraded *just* a little bit.

My dad said he saw the Violent Femmes play at the Union/Mugrack. Is he lying?

As noted above, both the Femmes and Da Bodeans were there on more than one occasion.

Random question, does anyone know when and why MU stopped serving Alcohol at the Brooks lounge in the AMU?

I assume its when the Annex opened up. That became the university's bar.

The Brooks lounge is totally underutilized. I never went there once and never knew anyone who did. The pool table thing is kind of cool, but what's the point of going to a place like that if you can't have a beer?

They should start serving beer again or re-purpose the space.

I agree! I mean I thought it was cool when I visited MU in High School as a barlike hang out but then again I also thought the "man cave" in OD's basement was cool to in HS.  But the moment I got here I realized both were essentially homes for the stricktest rules I've seen and really just a waste of space that could've been awesome if the drinking age was still 18.

I'm sure the administration is reluctant to serve alcohol to students at the union. I'm sure that's why they opened the Annex, so you can card students going in the door, and don't need to worry about students wandering in from other school functions which are hosted at the union. You also don't have to worry about drunk students wandering into study groups or MUSG meetings. I get it.

But then they should repurpose the space. Its a waste right now.

I think they could get a lot of students there if they just served a couple different beers on tap, no hard liquor. It would become a cool place to hangout. They would just have to card at the door. Maybe its too much effort and liability.

- Pirate Ship
- 1435 W. Kilbourn

When did "MarquetteParties" start? The screen name was still alive and well, posting party info on away messages when I arrived on campus in fall of 2004. It really wasn't until Facebook that it fell into disuse.

I worked at Conway's in the middle '90's (shortly after Dahmer was imprisioned) and never heard this.  I do know he used to frequent the bar at the Ambassador Hotel, (which was renamed "The U Pub.")

It originated in the Fall of '03 so perhaps it was short lived.
