I like the idea and thank you for posting this here, I didn't know about this until today. I think I will also wear pink in support of my mother a survivor herself.

6 years ago I received chemo and radiation for breast cancer. I had chemo during basketball season.  I didn't miss one game. MU basketball got me through chemo. It is what kept me going during the horrors of chemo. If they would have worn pink uniforms it would have been a huge uplifting moment for me. Even though I pronounced I wouldn't be wearing any pink sh**.   Somehow my favorite team, my passion wearing pink would have seemed like a personal support. If it helps one woman undergoing what I did I say wonderful.  For those of you who hate it, thank God you don't have cancer

Thank you for sharing warriormom. Glad you managed to kick your cancer in the teeth. I think our boys would be honored to know that they helped you through that time of your life.

For those who don't believe in awareness or in raising funds, then believe in support. Wearing these uniforms is a visible show of the organizations support for those who are fighting cancer. You can dislike the uniforms all you want but at least respect the players and administration for their show of support. If we help even just one person, isn't it worth it?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I'm in the "pink is fine, cancer is bad, but why didn't Athletics consult with a fashion designer" camp.  If there are none on campus, Mount Mary has plenty.

#1 Technically, the jerseys are ugly. We all know it.

#2 Sometimes "awareness" isn't just about being "aware" (Hey, breast cancer!), but it's also about unification. Pink has become a pride thing for a lot of survivors and families of victims. It's like a flag.

#3 Even if you hate the whole idea, please understand the the jerseys are being auctioned off and raising money for research. I think we can all agree that is a good idea.

I don't understand why people are so up in arms about this. If the design of the jersey was a little better would people be as upset about it?

Against Cancer, mom died of uteran(sp)? cancer 23 years ago.  Love you Mom.
Just sayin, Creighton has nice looking jerseys, why can't we?

As mentioned in a previous post, The yellow lettering won't show up on TV, or not as well as blue....Someone should have known that.

The majority in this thread just don't like the jerseys. no more, no less.

My wife is a breast cancer survivor. Her courage inspired me and our four children - she actually completed work on master's degree while undergoing treatment. Anything that raises money or awareness is OK by me, though when I hear "a portion of the profits...." It makes me wonder just what that portion is. I agree that the uniforms are hideous but isn't that the idea? Those white Creighton jerseys trimmed in pink and blue were nice, but weren't really that much of a contrast from their normal ones. If raising awareness and making a statement is the goal, I say go big or go home.

This! Good cause. Nobody will dispute that.  These particular MU jerseys jump the shark.  The Creighton jerseys were tasteful.

Pink Melos too. Of course, F*ckin's been wearin' those for years on his Ice Mountain route.

This thread is embarrassing. The uniforms are going to help raise money for breast cancer research. And, oh by the way, a member of MU's basketball team lost his mother to breast cancer so it hits very close to home. Who cares what the actual uniforms look like? It's not a fashion show. It's a basketball game. Get some perspective, people.

That's what I'm saying. Its one fricking game.

I'm shocked that 5 pages of thread and none of you get the point...our tradition is ugly/outlandish/crazy uniforms. We should never get away from that. It is our brand, our legacy, our heritage. Every time we wear something that is considered outlandish we honor our tradition. We wore tiger stripes, camo., jerseys that were designed to be untucked for goodness sakes. Our shorts in 94' even had the players FIRST names on the back of them. They just premiered a f****** movie about it! Are all you people that dense that you can't see the forest through the trees?

These uniforms are perfectly ugly. They are beautiful. We are Marquette.

P.S. This does not even mention the fact that they are for a very good cause that is far more important the any of the whining you guys do.

Yep, that's why it's embarrassing. You should bring up the right to free speech too  ::)

It's embarrassing because people are openly complaining about a basketball uniform that a team will wear one time in order to raise money for cancer research and to honor the late mother of one of its players.

Video of Jamil and the unis.

I think this is worth noting:  "Buzz actually emailed me and told me.  I told him 'Thanks.'"

Whatever any of us thinks about the uniforms, it's pretty clear that Jamil appreciates that we're wearing them.

I think it's more general frustration at the proliferation of pink merchandise. We've all heard about what a sham the NFL's efforts were, and many see the whole idea as a marketing ploy and not anything substantive towards research. All while being told that anyone who thinks this is silly must love cancer and hate titties.

MU happens to be taking part in this, and is an easy target.

Ha!

some people like them. some people don't. so what? in the end, we all know it's a good cause. we all know it is meaningful to thousands of people around the world as well right here on our own team. it's for a good cause. and isn't that the point that matters?

It would've been better if they were pink camo for the carrier classic last year.
