I think wearing pink uniforms  is over the top.  Sorry but these don't appeal to me.  By the way, I am generally satisfied with how I have led my life and affected others. Regrets, yes,  but I believe character is forged by the mistakes from which we learn.

No, I didn't join the Peace Corps or the military but I have done plenty in my life to help those in need but I don't feel it necessary to boast about it.

Matthew 6:2 - "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

So the answer is no.

Other than lecturing people on how to think, that is.

Not keefe man.

It's his role....no his RESPONSIBILITY...to set the bar high, leap over it, make sure to tell everyone how high he jumped, and rightfully shame those who don't have the guts or the dedication to fly as high as he has.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I like the part 'bout eatin' beans. See, y'all don't need those grains.

I read where it takes 10 pounds of feed to produce 1 pound of beef. Beans are a more perfect source of protein in many ways.

What is embarrassing is people claiming some sort of moral superiority over an ineffectual marketing campaign.

Some people said they didn't like the jerseys. That is all. It is not a statement about cancer.

I love people who claim the higher moral ground and yet have no basis for that position.

Believe whatever you want. It truly makes no difference to me. I know what I have done to make a positive difference in the lives of others and I don't feel it necessary to tell embellished stories about those instances in an attempt to impress a bunch of people on a basketball message board. Some people feel differently. To each his own.

Moral superiority were your words.  Some people said they didn't like the uniforms and I said get over it, it is one game for a good cause.    What does that have to do with moral superiority? The only one who is showing moral superiority is you.

Everyone relax. It's not permanent, one game, good cause.

Jamil Wilson's mother died of breast cancer. Any more questions or comments?

My dad died of a heart attack when I was in my 20's.

I've known plenty of people who have died of cancer, or have it now.  Scourge of a disease.

I don't like the jerseys.

Some seem to making this out to be more than it is.  I agree that the jerseys will get people talking, will "raise awareness" (as if breast cancer doesn't have awareness), but I still don't care of them.

Cancer bad.
Pink jerseys bad.
Hopefully MU good today....first half was so so

FWIW, while they were ugly, they were not as ugly as I thought they'd be based on the picture that started this thread.

I lost my wife 2 years ago to breast cancer so I will refrain from saying anything about Komen other than this pink silliness does nothing to advance oncology.

Looks as if they are actually referring to it as "Suits and Sneakers" this time around which I have never actually heard before (or I just wasnt paying attention - perhaps more likely).

http://coaches.acsevents.org/site/PageServer/?pagename=CVC_FY12_Suits_Sneakers

Will this be the year that idiot Coach Crean puts his extreme vanity aside for just one day and actually wears a suit with sneakers, or will he go with the track suit/wind shirt as he has each of the past years?

Coaches and their staff are encouraged to wear sneakers with their game attire while coaching games during the weekend

Unless of course, you're Coach Crean, where only your assistants wear sneakers with their game attire, but your game attire suddenly becomes athletic apparel.

Pettiness on my part? Absolutely, but it has driven me crazy every year. Check your fricken ego for 1 day. The guy is an unbelievable pud whack.

This guy is so pathetic. Yet again, the only coach in America (I am aware of - at best, one of very, very few), who can't be bothered to wear a suit with sneakers. His vanity knows no bounds.

:o

So let me again understand what the point of this is?  We just spent an entire thread saying the reason we are wearing pink uniforms is to get noticed.  Correct?

So then a coach (whom you don't like) wears what is not "normal" coaching fare, and wears something else....which you noticed (note the irony)...and you don't like it...despite it achieving even more of the desired effect.

Just think about it...read it again....it will sink in for you.

I didn't even know Jay Wright was even wearing tennis shoes until today when I saw the highlights on Sports Center.  So who achieved the more "noticeable" uniform nonsense in this plight to draw awareness to something that has plenty of awareness already?  The guy that wore sneakers and very knew even knew he was wearing or the guy that didn't and you (and certainly many others) immediately noticed (and asked why he's not wearing a suit...oh...Coaches vs Cancer)?

Maybe the mandate in the future should be coaches have to wear PINK sneakers, high tops, to truly get the message across.

I hear they won today....maybe you can start a thread about that...they usually crop up around here in other situations.

Mustache

May I ask what selfless act you have engaged in the past decade? I don't include wearing pink or writing a check.

Have you risked your life for someone? I mean really put your mortal existence in peril to help another human being? Or spent time in the 3rd World helping the desperate poor? Living with them. Sharing their life. Living in their circumstances. Eating beans 3 times a day? Or dal bhat? Have you given of the gifts we Americans take for granted to improve the subsistence existence of the innocent?

How have you answered the Jesuit call to service?
Yep.  Bill and Melinda Gates and their stupid foundation should be ashamed of themselves.

Pettiness....off the charts.

Wrong....yup.  Sure looks like the entire staff was wearing sneakers

It would have been much better them to do this (see below...Iowa's approach), where during a game you would have to look probably 20 times to even notice they were wearing sneakers...but this would let Navin's pettiness go away.   :o   What's the goal Navin, to draw attention to this cancer awareness program, or to wear black sneakers with a black suit so basically no one notices but it allows you to feel ok about it?

NavinRJohnson

Whatever, dude. Nice try. They were calling it Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend. Thus all the coaches wearing, you now, suits and sneakers. Well, almost all of them. If you want to try  to sell the idea that he goes with the warmup vs. the suit for any reason other than how it looks, save it. You and I both know better. Just think about it...it will sink in for you.

I don't give a rats ass if they won or lost, as you'll notice I was simply following up on a post a day or two ago, where this was as easy to predict as a sunrise. Kind of like your pompous ass riding in to his defense.

ChicosBailBonds

Jay Wright's shoes were so obvious that this blown up shot of them could rival the Zapruder Film for graininess.

http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/1/26/5347362/jay-wright-style-watch-marquette

Did anyone in the country know he participated....damn...what a jerk.   Way to call attention to the cause Jay!!  You cancer loving prick.  You just didn't want to ruin your fashion sense and made it all about you!

Interesting, when I go to the website it says it is about DRAWING ATTENTION to the cause.  Black sneakers with a black suit, blue sneakers with a blue suit...yes...drawing attention.   ::)

Think about it, I'm sure it will sink in for you, but you'll have to let the pettiness guard down for a few seconds.

"as they unite to fight cancer and raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Wearing sneakers is much more than a fashion statement. It's a visual reminder that prevention is key when it comes to blocking cancer before it takes center court in our lives"

It's not a visual reminder if people don't even know you are wearing them....Jay Wright you cancer loving douche.  Fran Dunphy, you cancer encouraging hate monger....etc...etc

WellsstreetWanderer

Keefe I am sorry to hear of your loss. B Ca has claimed some friends of mine but they don't come close to what must be the pain of losing a spouse.
I was one of those who initially did not care for the idea of pink unis but the color MU wore was actually not bad on the players.
Regarding the things others have done for their fellow man , I think most of us have have done what we could given our circumstances. I for one never had the "opportunity" to live a third world existence but believe I have made a somewhat modest impact on others who share this mortal plane. I credit the Marquette experience for my awareness of the plight of others.
