Nighttime coverage map, I usually start getting interference as soon as I pass the KR exit and the signal is garbage by the time I get off at CTH C.

Same for me. Luckily I get off at 52nd street

I used to drive a Pontiac Sunchicken back in the day... on the stock radio, I could pull in 620 from my parents' place north of Madison anytime of day without issues...

I can pull in 620 (Milwaukee) from the State of Iowa, if I'm not near the river (i.e. above "sea level").

To listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity

right on! and weber, mckenna, belling, sykes, levin and MU games when i'm on the road and close enough to get the damn station. oh yeah and buzz on his post game talk.  if it came with just am radio, i'm good with that

oh, and ziggy-not to worry-have 112k miles and major problem has been tire wear

OK, I live about 18 miles from the Wisconsin line. AM 540 sounds like sandpaper during the day and at night, it's not a factor. If you're much past the Milwaukee County line, forget it!

As a kid, I would listen to Vanderbilt both in Nashville and, at times, when we went to my parents "home" to Superior on 650 AM, WSM. It's clear channel and could be heard in 38 states and it carried Vanderbilt basketball in those days. I used to search for Marquette basketball on the AM dial in the early 1970s but that was a fruitless exercise, even on WISN 1130.

With AM 540, I'd he happy with 38 towns of coverage. Any chance now that WTMJ has bid a fond farewell to Becky Badger, we could get on TMJ. At the very least, we'd be on KTI when we were in conflict with the Bucks.

Warrior of Law

That would be ideal (going to TMJ).  WAUK barely works in southern Milwaukee County.

i apologize if this is a re-occurring b!tch topic, but i don't listen to it very often as most of the games are on tv of i am down there at the bmo watching.  then there is the long ride home to waukesha, or small project in the garage where you'd like to keep up with the game on the radio then run inside to the tv during some key game moments.  anyway, can they throw a couple more vermin in the cage to get the power output up just a little.  i start getting interference riding out of milwaukee from the bridge overpasses 5-10 miles from the station.  i can almost wave my hand in front of the radio and cause a loss or weakening of the signal.  i think there are some high schools with stronger radio signals than ours.  it's hard to hear buz'z show after the games because i'm all the way out to the milwaukee/waukesha county borders.  bottom line, this is embarrassing for a "big time" program to have far less than big time broadcast capabilities.  before MU got into their p!ssing contest with homer and belling, wisn was at least a triple AAA league signal.  now we've got 540 AM  barely able to reach out the windows of the bradley center.  my guess from a pr and recruiting stand, this is like cb radio-hey good buddy, i got yer backdoor closed if ya wouldn't mind watching the front door fer me, much appreciated-oh by the way, some team named the marquette golden somethings are playing a team called the orange.  this is not your fathers broadcasting company

Download tunein radio on your phone and stream it via the bluetooth.  If your jag has half the technology of a 19K car, it'll be able to do that.

Hopefully. That would mean I won't have to pay for fancy weddings when they grow up. Heck, it's also two tuitions I wouldn't have to pay since they'd likely be on D-I scholarships.

Let's put it this way... The coverage of MU basketball during the morning and afternoon drives is exponentially greater this year than it ever has been.  In years past, Becky would get scores, stats highlights, etc. during the :15 and :45 minute sports breaks but we'd just get a score for MU, if that; it wasn't uncommon for TMJ to not even acknowledge that MU had a game that night, even if it was at home during the BE season, and even when Becky didn't have a game the same day.  Now we get scores for MU, leading scorer, regular reminders of the upcoming game, and other quick commentary... sure it's only 20 seconds worth of info, but we didn't even get 5 seconds before.

In answer to your question, I'm 98% certain it's been considered. Whether it's feasible given existing contracts, BE media rights, Homer's employer, etc. is a different story.

The signal has improved alot of the years.  A couple years ago I would get strong interferance about 5 miles out of Milwaukee.  Now I can get it clearly my whole ride back to Rockford.

If you have a smart phone, I recommend downloading the ESPN Radio app.  I used to use to just AUX cable that to my car when I would lose signal.

77ncaachamps

I'm n California.

The ESPN RADIO APP has continual replays playing over live coverage, which cuts back to the replay.

However, the Tune In feed is more stable.

neither 540 nor 1130 can be heard after sundown (power reduction) after cresting the hill between the Namahbin Lakes on I-94, no matter what I'm driving.  Almost unavailable during the day in Oconomowoc, but might be the trees.
I sure can get those baajrrrs on 620 tho.

GOO

I'll take 540 over 1130/WISN.  Clear signal all the way to the  Illinois state line on 540 where I live.  WISN, I couldn't get it at all after sunset.  And WISN often cut away from the game as soon as it ended, with little to no after or pre-game coverage, it is clear that Marquette games were an after thought for WISN.

540 on the ESPN App is nice.  The in game cut aways seem to have been cleared up this year on the app and the app has been working great.

For me, heading south, the 540 signal is better than WISN, better coverage pre and post game and a good app to get coverage anywhere.

I should get a pay check from 540 for this post.

GOO

Did a test of WISN versus 540 last night around 6:00 o'clock from my car near the Illinois/Wisconsin border.
540 had a clear signal and I could hear it perfectly.  WISN nothing but static.

So, going South from Milwaukee 540 has a much better signal.  Maybe the issue it going in different directions or the individual radio.  A return to WISN would be a step back, at least for me.

I'm also Cali based and use both the TuneIn app and stream from ESPN540 website, these both work pretty well and good to hear Homer/Mac plus Buzz post-game (only complaint is can't listen while watching game on TV since feed lags live action.........it would be nice to ditch some of these FS1 announcers and listen to our guys!)

WISN powers down at sunset.  I can get 1130 in Madison during the summer until late, but it cuts out early during the winter.

540 doesn't come close to making it to madison, but ESPN radio is on FM here.

Exactly correct.  AM, FM, and TV antennas all broadcast their signal in both wattage and direction according to the "coverage area" prescribed by the FCC.  You can go 50 miles south of an antenna and get perfect reception, and yet go 20 miles north and get nothing but static.

Since the MU radio network already has coverage in Madison and no coverage in Chicago, it would make more sense to broadcast from Milwaukee on a station that has better coverage to the south.
