i apologize if this is a re-occurring b!tch topic, but i don't listen to it very often as most of the games are on tv of i am down there at the bmo watching.  then there is the long ride home to waukesha, or small project in the garage where you'd like to keep up with the game on the radio then run inside to the tv during some key game moments.  anyway, can they throw a couple more vermin in the cage to get the power output up just a little.  i start getting interference riding out of milwaukee from the bridge overpasses 5-10 miles from the station.  i can almost wave my hand in front of the radio and cause a loss or weakening of the signal.  i think there are some high schools with stronger radio signals than ours.  it's hard to hear buz'z show after the games because i'm all the way out to the milwaukee/waukesha county borders.  bottom line, this is embarrassing for a "big time" program to have far less than big time broadcast capabilities.  before MU got into their p!ssing contest with homer and belling, wisn was at least a triple AAA league signal.  now we've got 540 AM  barely able to reach out the windows of the bradley center.  my guess from a pr and recruiting stand, this is like cb radio-hey good buddy, i got yer backdoor closed if ya wouldn't mind watching the front door fer me, much appreciated-oh by the way, some team named the marquette golden somethings are playing a team called the orange.  this is not your fathers broadcasting company

540 AM comes in clear as day the entire drive home for me... and I live in Illinois.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I live in Delafield and never have a problem with reception, day or night.

oh keefe, thanks, i think.  actually i am more of a tooth scientist, but as i was saying, this topic may have been beat down more than once over the years, but i feel is worthy of a reality check as nothing has been done about it since they left wisn.  with the way the university spends is money, which it seems to have a never ending supply, i believe they could afford to upgrade our radio transmission to maybe get as far as...east troy??  i think it's still in our time zone.  you'd think if MU wants to draw to a larger fan base and maybe fill up some more of the upper deck, a good start would be to let people know in say, a 30 mile radius that there is/could be a pretty good basketball team close by.  maybe even show some of our recruits that we are "big time" with the radio...listen here adonte, we hardly get any static on our broadcasts up to-fill-in-the-blank-feet/blocks/...whatever.
oh, on another note keefe-saw an earlier post of yours re:your service to our country-THANK YOU and God bless you for your unselfish acts almost paying the ultimate price for our country.  hope life is good and a big middle finger to the jack waggon's response back to you for letting us know what you went thru and continue to suffer with.  you did what you did so that a$$hat or even myself for that matter wouldn't have to and allow us to live the lives we are-THANK YOU

The online stream has been surprisingly good this year.  No random stops, no forgetting to switch the feed over to the game and listening to something stupid.

don't mean to impress anyone.  just sayin, even that quality of a car has trouble picking up 540 within pissing distance of bmo bradley-i'm sure there are a whole mess more impressive than a 2004 xjr

In my experience, quality of the car does not always equal quality of the radio.

so i guess, the bottom line is everyone is good with 540?  then 540 it is...i'll move along, nothing to see here

You're spot on, people just aren't admitting it.

540 is weak in the immediate vicinity of downtown, but it's fine when you get further away from the city. I don't know enough about AM to tell you why.

No, I agree. Getting on 94 after the game all the way to my house on the south side is full of static and random pops and beeps. I almost always stream any post-game from my iPhone.

Probably hard to hear the postgame from the repair garage at the jaguar dealership.

Nighttime coverage map, I usually start getting interference as soon as I pass the KR exit and the signal is garbage by the time I get off at CTH C.

romey

Lose the signal at the Zoo Interchange and south.

You must have a great radio because 540am is weak as hell along the state line.  I live mid-state on the WI side of the state line and the station does not come in at all.  I also often ride up from Chicago and never can get reception until crossing the state line on I94.  Same thing has happened in my past two cars.

Made far better now but in the 80's I worked at a start-up whose owner had two. Literally one to drive while the other was in the shop.  Not exaggerating!
Owned one since and it was a fine car

Stations power down at night, so a lot of it might have to do with whether it is dark or not when you are listening. Rocket - MU cannot just buy a stronger transmission. That's not how it works. They contract with 540 and have nothing to do with their signal strength.

Chevy Cavalier, Subaru Forester, Subaru Tribeca... all three pull it in just fine on stock radios. I drove the Cavalier predominantly when I lived in Buffalo Grove, and 540 still worked fine provided I wasn't near a power line, and that thing had a cassette deck.

Anecdotally, I have heard the best radios - as far as reception goes - are your basic, standard OEM receivers, especially in cars that sell well in rural markets like F-150s, anything GM, etc.  I used to drive a Pontiac Sunchicken back in the day... on the stock radio, I could pull in 620 from my parents' place north of Madison anytime of day without issues... As soon as I put an aftermarket CD player, I got nothing but static.  Might have something to do with the antenna being calibrated/spec'd specifically for a particular receiver or vice versa... Put in a different radio, and it would be like trying to watch Dish Network with a DirecTV dish (is that even possible?)

The other thing I could see is that luxury car lines might skimp on their stock radio when it comes to receiver's range.  After all, if you drive a $50k+ ride, why the heck would you be listening to an AM radio station.

I have major interference between Jackson and Kewaskum.  I think there tower is in Jackson which is puzzling.
