Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Unlikely that anyone was "bullied" by bros when they were younger, because it's a relatively recent development.  I graduated from MU in 2002, and there was a fairly small bro population.  The bro-movement has grown exponentially in the last 5 years, and it's obviously alive and well at MU too.

You seem to be in the dark on why people aren't fans of bros, so I'll give it a shot...

It's pretty common knowledge that bros are some of the most annoying and narcissistic personalities in society.  They are often entitled and privileged... they seem to always "accidentally" get in fights and arguments with strangers of all ages and for the most trivial reasons.  These "kids" are always in a shocked state of "whats wrong, bro?" when people don't want to engage with them or when people aren't impressed with them.  They love attention (which we're all giving them now), and are pretty much the male equivalent of Hollywood's spoiled ditsy blonde stereotype.  Every bro doesn't suck, but it's the vast majority of them.  The ones in this thread epitomize the bad side of bros.

I can't believe I did a "When I was young..." about bros.

Bros have been around forever.  They just weren't labelled as such.

Another fairly recent development in society is anonymous, narcissistic people criticizing and judging others because they hold different views about something or adhere to a different lifestyle. Oh wait, its not new. Quit the hate crimes against bros.

No apology needed as long as you keep delivering quality.

Can we please pin this thread? It's epic on many levels and surely one I will want to revisit in the future.

Didn't make it to his 10am, but it looks like he'll be there for his 2:15 and 3:30.  2 out of 3 constitutes "automatic", surely.

Should I take it another level?

"And there's an even more recent development in society where even more anonymous narcissistic people judge and criticize other narcissistic anonymous people who then judge and criticize bros."

10 points if that was an intentional reference to Breakfast Club.

Negative 100 if not.

Many partied like rock stars back in the day.....when it was legal, beer was cheap and the weekend started on Tuesday.   We would show up drunk, heckle the alumni who didn't stand up, pour beer on Digger....  But there weren't websites around to prove how cool we were.     So quit giving your posse bro-jobs.

Fans like you are what made getting to MU games as a student a f***ing chore. Thanks.

Aughnanure hit it on the head.  By and large the people that got to the game hours before hand to get a "good" seat were doing it so they could say they did it more than to actually enjoy the game, making them just as narcissistic as the bros.  I'd rather show up 30-45 mins before hand, get a seat first row of the upper deck, and be able to actually enjoy the basketball game.

In my day, the student section had assigned seats like a regular season ticket (or half-season ticket, I should say).  You could pregame until 15 minutes before the scheduled start and still make the tipoff because your seat didn't depend upon when you made it to the arena.
Have some patience, FFS.

Ditto.  The problem with that is that your seats depended on your class, so you had a bunch of lame ass graduate and law students by the floor.  OTOH, I don't recall the student section going into the upper deck.  I know I never sat up there for a game.  It is much better now than in my day, but the basketball is much better as well.

In my day, student seats were not assigned. However, you could still pregame until 15 minutes before tip and get great seats because no one wanted to go watch a Marquette-Tulane barnburner. Then Dwyane Wade burst onto the scene my senior year and we could only pregame until 30 minutes before tip. It was rough.

In the pre-BC days there were so few seats in the student section that a student season ticket covered only half the home games.  You could request either the Blue plan or the Gold plan.  No one went into the upper deck because the student section didn't go up that far.

Yes, and we had to camp out for a week to get a chance for those split games.

Archies Bat

The student section did go into the upper deck at the old Milwaukee Arena.  As a dumb freshmen in the late 70's, we signed up as a group of 7, and ended up in the last 5 seats in the corner of the upper deck.

That's an awful long time to be camped outside with all those tyrannosaurs roaming around...

Central Mall camping out ended around 1978 or 1979.  That's when MU went from the full season tix for students to the 1/2 Blue/Gold format.  When I got to campus in '79, the upperclassman were lamenting the change.  It may have happened to some extent my Frosh year, I simply don't recall and certainly few participated.  I had a sense that Fr. Raynor didn't mind a night or two but I believe it had started to extend well beyond that.

Can you imagine today?  Tents and free flowing beer for days on end in the central mall?  Folks today can't believe the Party of the Century from '81.

I stand corrected then.  I was a transfer student, so I started in the lower deck.  Maybe I just never turned around.   :P

So Al was talking about your seats when he said he looked into the corner to make sure they were filled?
