Three weeks ago Miami was 25th, 1 point in front us.  Now they are 3rd with 17 first place votes.

An amazing ascent.

Need to win 1 this week to hold steady. Win 2 and you are looking 10-14 range.

True, but losing a game in 5 overtimes that you had easily in hand is a bit different that being smoked by double digits.

Understood, but that was just one example.  Head to head in polls just doesn't mean a bunch...these guys don't remember that stuff.  They have a tough enough time putting 25 teams next to numbers 1 through 25.  Most of them can't remember what happened 15 games ago in some contest because they would have to do that for every team they vote on.  Having seen how the coaches poll was voted on first hand (literally saw it with my own eyes back in the day), you know how I feel about the sanctity of these things.  Most give it a passing glance, maybe put an hour or so into.  Some go deeper, but many do not.  They don't have the time or energy to do it right.

Where in the hell do you see 4 or 5 wins better than @Pitt and Gtown, @IU and Michigan are givens (even though they were insanely lucky in the Mich game) then maybe @Illinois, which is being very generous. All in all, that is a ridiculous statement.
You are going to make me look up something regarding the f'ng badgers?

@ Indiana - Duh
vs Michigan - Duh
vs Illinois (ranked #12 at the time) - Better
vs Minnesota (ranked #12 at the time) - Better
@ Illinois -  Better than @ Pitt. (Pitt without Woodall is not that great of a win)

Our best wins are @ Pitt (unranked) and home against Georgetown (#15 at the time).

It's not even close who has the better wins.

Where a team is ranked at the time means absolutely nothing. Do you think the selection committee is going to give Butler a "top ten win" for when they beat UNC in Maui? It's all about where teams are at the end of the season, barring injuries.

I wouldn't factor in when teams were beaten at that specific point in time (i.e. what they were ranked when they were beaten). Kentucky was once #3, NC State #6, UNC #11, UCLA #13, Baylor #16, Memphis #17, none of them were deserving of their respective rankings and certainly the wins against UK, UNC, UCLA, Baylor etc. at that time will not be regarded as "great wins" today and most likely the end of the season. The same goes for Illinois and Minnesota. I would say as of now @Pitt outdoes @Illinois and at home against Gtown outdoes at home vs Minnesota.

I could see 17 with Pitt dropping to 18. Everyone else immediately ahead of MU should stay. OK State had a nice overtime win and Georgetown will go up.

If you do not live in Milwaukee then a ranking means highlights on ESPN and it's better for recruiting.

So true, but some will never understand! We'll stay at 18.

Funny how we are ranked, so is Pitt and we still get axed from sportscenter.

This makes the most sense to me.

So what. It still helps to tell potential recruits our past and present rankings. Shows a sign of good coaching and talent assembled.

Lots going on on a Saturday.  Recruits will have to settle watching us beat a ranked team in front of 17,000 on CBS!

And the little number next to our name means sportscenter coverage for Seton Hall Tuesday night.

Don't know what you guys mean by axed.  MU has been on every sports center with full highlights since we won.  I was watching sports center at the gym this morning and saw the highlights twice.

They must run a different in the south then whereever you are then.

I am in the south and saw it this morning too.  Called out as "Big East Showdown" in the scroll on the left.

Ranked 12th in Seth Davis' top 25. He didn't even have MU in his top 25 until last week. It looks like we did some convincing this weekend as he covers the CBS games.

Ranked 16th in Parrish and Goodman's top 25.

17 or higher is looking likely.

Could see a decent jump if Seth Davis ballot is indicative of the rest of the voters thought process. He had us at 23 last week. Up to 12 as of tonight.

Edit: Beat me to it. Pretty promising (as far as polls go, anyways)

TallTitan34

Hopefully that jackass who didn't have either Marquette or Georgetown in his poll last week will add both schools.

Interesting that Davis works for CBS and as soon as we win a CBS game, we make a huge jump in his poll.  Could he really be that lazy (that he does no research and only votes for what is put in front him ... as in the CBS games)?
