You are going to make me look up something regarding the f'ng badgers?

@ Indiana - Duh
vs Michigan - Duh
vs Illinois (ranked #12 at the time) - Better
vs Minnesota (ranked #12 at the time) - Better
@ Illinois -  Better than @ Pitt. (Pitt without Woodall is not that great of a win)

Our best wins are @ Pitt (unranked) and home against Georgetown (#15 at the time).

It's not even close who has the better wins.

You're messing with us right?  You can't really think that Minnesota is a better team than Georgetown, can you?  Minnesota has lost 7 of their last 10 (wins against Wiscy, Iowa and Nebraska), including getting destroyed at Iowa today.  Gtown has won 9 of their last 10, with wins over MU, Louisville, and ND in that span.  Two teams going opposite directions.

Pakuni

#14 in the ESPN power rankings. One of three with the week's biggest jump (five spots, along with Georgetown and Okie State).

Also of note:
#8 Syracuse
#9 Louisville
#11 G'Town
#18 Butler
#19 Pitt
#22 VCU
#25 St. Louis

We are 14 and tOSU is 21.  If we rescheduled the Carrier Classic for this week, would we now be favored?  :)

A couple of thoughts about above ....

Gonzaga #3, is this their highest ranking ever?  #1 this season is not out of the question, especially if MSU beats IU tomorrow and Miami loses at Duke March 2.

Of out six losses, four are ranked ahead of us (#5 Fla, #10 'ville, #11 G-town, #15 Butler).  The other two are Cincy (other receiving votes) and UWGB (ughh!)  All six losses were away or neutral (Butler).  All-in-all not too much to be ashamed of (if you can get past UWGB but most teams have one of these)

If Butler's Clark missed his last shot, and Jake Thomas hits his last shot at UWGB, and everything else is the same, we are 20-4.  With that record we would probably be a top 10 team.  Point here is that is how close we were to top 10 this year.  In fact win the next four (@SH, @'nova, Home 'cuse, home ND), which is not easy and we could still see a top 10 ranking this year.

Tied for best ever. They hit #3 in 2004.  MSU vs. IU is a huge game tomorrow. I think Zags have a great chance for a 1 seed, if not overall #1.

Despite all the hand wringing by some, Marquette is ranked ahead of both Wisconsin and Pitt.  (also, Ohio State)

SLU is the last team out of the top 25.  No votes for Xavier or Dayton, just 1 for Creighton.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

It would be a travesty if it happened.  They are not the #1 team in the country.  They have slid up because the function of the polls is so spectacularly stupid.  In most cases when you lose, you drop in the polls...they don't care who you play.  There are exceptions, as happened two weeks ago, but extremely rare. Meanwhile, if you play in a bad conference and keep on winning you keep eeking up.  If Gonzaga is a number 1 seed, especially the overall number 1 seed, please God put Marquette in that bracket.

They are #10 in Sagarin
#11 in RPI
#6 in Ken Pom

Rewarding a team as the #1 overall seed for playing the 75th toughest schedule...that would be something.

We are the highest 6 loss team.

And we are responsible for two losses by the next highest ranked six loss team.

If Butler's Clark missed his last shot, and Jake Thomas hits his last shot at UWGB and everything else is the same and if we beat North Carolina and Illinois instead of getting to feast on patsies in the Maui loser's bracket, we are 20-4.

Fixed.

Must admit I'm a little surprised to see Ohio State still ranked ahead of Wisconsin, which has better wins this season and which just beat OSU by a jillion points.

Concur, certainly a shot depending on others.  I'd also be pretty comfortable we'd be sitting squarely on the #3 seed line.

Don't understand the hate. Really, a travesty? Quite a bit of hyperbole. They did everything the committee asked. Scheduled an incredibly tough non-con schedule, and are the only team left with 2 losses. If they win out and win the WCC tournament I don't see how you don't give them a well-deserved 1 seed. Have you actually watched this team play? They play like a 1 seed, and frankly, there just aren't elite teams in college basketball this year. The Zags may not be a 1 seed most years, but who deserves it over them this year? Exactly what else could they have done to meet your specifications?

After going .500 last week, moving  up one spot is a nice reward.  More than I expected.

Touche...travesty is too much.  I don't hate Gonzaga, actually like Few a lot and think their program is solid.  The point of seeding the tournament is to give an equal (or approximate) path to the championship based on seedings.  In my view, a #1 (especially overall #1) for Gonzaga would mean whomever is in their bracket has an easier chance to reach the Final Four than any other school that has to be in a true region with a true #1 caliber team.

This is a team that struggled to beat San Francisco the other day.  When they have been tested, they lost to Illinois at home, lost to Butler, got a couple of gifts like beating Washington State by 2 points, San Diego by 2 points, and a Oklahoma State game in which they won by one because the Cowboys missed two free throws with under 10 seconds.  It's one of those situations where they have been tested so few times this year vs other programs that they'll back into a #1 because they have so few opportunities to lose.

I just hope Marquette is in their bracket.  If IU finishes as a two or a three seed, I pray they are in Gonzaga's #1 seed bracket as well.

Oladipo might not play tomorrow for IU...if he doesn't, no chance for IU.

He is playing according to CTC...unless this is gamesmanship which is possible.

Thanks...as of this morning ESPN was saying it was up in the air.  Looks like that article just came out.  Hopefully he is 100%, but unlikely.  He's the critical piece on that team...not bad for a 3 star player...I guess he was developed over the years.   ;)

As of right now, I don't think they are deserving of an overall #1, and even if they win out that's probably still not the case. But 3rd or 4th #1? Yes. Again, who deserves it more than them? All your points about their close calls are well taken but again I ask you who in college basketball has an unstained resume this year? Who has clearly been a step above Gonzaga? The bottom line is they have won close games, have no bad losses, and only two losses overall to two good teams. I don't think you can hold a few close calls against them. They won them, and every one of their games in the WCC is their opponents' Super Bowl. They have the biggest target on their back out of any team in the country for conference play.

So far IU, Duke, Louisville and Michigan have been #1 this season ... four different teams.

If IU loses to MSU tomorrow night, we could have a fifth ... Miami (all else equal).  If Miami loses at Duke March 2, we could have a sixth ... Gonzaga (again, all else equal).

What is the record number of teams at #1 for a season?
