We should be ahead of Duke but #9 is okay.  Let's go now!!

Wow, quite the logjam from 6-10/11 spots.   Any losses this week by those teams and it should really shuffle things around for next next.

Based on results I'd like to see someone justify Illinois at 10 ahead of Wisconsin and Marquette?

The ACC is the most overrated conference basketball. Duke is probably a 5 seed at best and I would pick them game 1 to be upset. I also think North Carolina loses to the 8/9 winner.

Like our very own Knower of Ball who picked us 10th?

JB Ricks is surely special. His week to week rankings are just crazy. Clearly he does not watch any of these teams.

Plus he works for spectrum news. so naturally he is a little behind.

Agree about 9 being fine, though I was thinking we should be ahead of the team we dominated in Maui!

I recognize this has nothing to do with your post...but...man, they ruined the ending of that book in the movie.

Crazy that the Big East, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC each have a team in the AP Top 5, and 2 in the  AP Top 10.

Seems like a good time to reintroduce the debate about conference strength: does it mean more to have real quality among the top 2-3-4 teams in a conference, or is it better to have depth where many/most teams can beat a lot of teams on any given night?

What conferences are being seen as the strongest this year?

brewcity77

The B12, Big East, & SEC are probably seen as the strongest, though considering the number of B12 teams that really didn't beat much quality non-con opposition and scheduled a ton of Q4 teams (BYU, Cincy, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, the list goes on) so while metrically they're the best, it's because they beat up on crap teams.

The median NCSOS for the B12 is 277, for the Big East it's 104. The next worst to the B12 is the SEC at 174. I'm skeptical on how good the B12 really is.

So now the Big East is a P5 Conference with the PAC going the way of the DoDo bird.

Conferences are getting bigger...but at least 3 in bball. How often do we see a mid major conference with a 1 hit wonder...maybe for a couple of years but obscurity awaits. I was concerned when the BE reformulated as a non football only. How would quality sustain. Would Villanova carry us? Well it turned out well. But 3 top 25 programs essential for long term my opinion

With UNC's loss we will almost certainly pass the loser between them and Puke Saturday. (Assuming we take care of business of course).

If the other big weekend games go our way (Houston>KU, Kentucky>Tenn, PU>BADgers) we would almost certainly be #5 going into NMD.

I actually think we need Tennessee to win in order to be top 5. I think we're already in line to pass them given their home loss to the Cocks last night. If UK beats Tennessee on the road,  i think that will be more than enough for them to leapfrog us.  I think we only had like 7 votes on them and beating Florida and Tennessee is a lot more impressive than beating Nova and Georgetown
