So....What are we ranked on Monday - 1/6/2025?

Other than short term bragging rights, the polls are currently irrelevant.

In that respect, the poll has always been irrelevant. It's a conversation starter to bring attention to college basketball and eyeballs to the publications showing it. The fact that you and I and dozens of other Scoopers are conversing about it demonstrates that the poll is doing its job.

As a Marquette fan, I'd always rather be ranked than not ranked ... I'd always rather be ranked in the top 10 than 11-25 ... I'd always rather be ranked in the top 5 than 6th ... and so on. And I'd love to see that 1 next to my alma mater's name at some point this season.

All the while knowing that the poll really is irrelevant.

I think it is important that fans are honest about their team ranking. Wherever MU is ranked on Monday, I firmly believe they are one of the best, if the not best team in the country and the number has less meaning to me. There had been times when MU was ranked in previous years, and I did not think they were as good as the ranking. It goes both ways.

We beat #1 and lost a close one to the new #1. 

We should be no lower than 3 and we can make an argument for 2.  Yes, there are undefeated teams out there but they didn't play against that loaded Maui field.

I could see staying at 4 had we lost by double figures to Purdue. But we smoked the old No. 1 and then lost a one possession game to the new No. 1. We should be 2 or 3.

I'm assuming 4. UA and Uconn will be ahead due to undefeated record early on this season. Still think we have the best wins though outside of Purdue, but UA with best road win overall.

But who cares. Keep winning and we'll have a shot at it again.

And frankly, this team is too good to even care much about in-season accolades. Yes I'd rather be a 1 seed than a 3 seed, and yes I'd like to go back-2-back BE titles -  but as long the next 28-29 games get us a protected seed I'm not going to get too concerned about what happens on a game-by-game basis. This year is all about what we can get done in late March and April. Everything else is just prologue.

I think we are 3 and here's why:

Last week there were 24 writers (almost 40%) who had us ranked 5th or worse.  My guess is that most of those people thought we had not proved ourselves against a tough opponent.  This week, we crushed last week's #1 and came within one bucket of beating #2.  That's going to convert a lot of those voters into Marquette believers.

Also, as much as it will hurt, we need to send good vibes to Michigan State tomorrow so that they spank Zona.

Logic does not apply here. We lost, so we will fall behind UConn and Houston. Maybe even Creighton. Kansas is Kansas, so they will fall, but not below us. I predict the rankings in this order Purdue, Arizona, Uconn, Houston, Kansas, MU, Creighton.

I really do not care much, but I think MU is becoming a bit of a media darling and think will help them. Almost all MU talk by experts is very favorable. I think that helps them.

Not happening.  We thrashed them and didn't shoot the ball well.  It could have easily been a 25pt win.

This is almost more ridiculous than if we get a 4 ranking. Seeds are about resume and we have the clear second best resume in the country beyond Purdue.
