I'm curious if the AP poll still has the same reach and causes consequential engagement bump from a school being ranked as it once did. I mean it mainly got out to so many people because of newspapers.

I'm willing to bet the casual basketball fan pays more attention to the AP poll, compared to the NET Ranking (which is the one that actually matters). It's also the AP poll number next to teams on game day, not their NET ranking.

MUScoop when the team is boarderline top 25: I don't want to be ranked.  Every time we get ranked we lose.  I like being the underdog and disrespected.

Also MUScoop when people don't rank us: @ THESE GUYS!

We really are that fanbase.

Every fanbase really is that fanbase. It's kind of what fans do.

Just to be clear.......If the season ended today TRank says they would be in.......you are correct that their simulations predict they will miss when all,is said and done

https://barttorvik.com/tranketology-now.php

Didn't know that part existed on trank. But how is the #71 team in.... when there's 64 teams, and a bunch go to auto conference bids.

16 for Mark Berman (stayed at 16)

Gal darn, a home win against a ranked opponent,  and a massive Blowout against a decent Seton hall away... this man sleeps.

The sun is so hot you could called it a sexpot.

Yep.

IMHO the way most casual fans are exposed to this is through the AP rankings that appear next to teams' names in the ESPN crawl. Ranked teams receive favorable treatment, with scores shown much more frequently than when both teams are unranked. "Hmm, Marquette won again. Just beat the #6 team." That kind of thing. If not for the AP rankings/ESPN crawl combo, many wouldn't know that Marquette existed (and most still probably think it's in Michigan).

Also, highlights are significantly more likely to be shown on Sportscenter if you're ranked; if you happened to win, that's an especially nice look. For example, we were the lead story on the 11 p.m. Sportscenter the night we beat UConn; the anchors fawned over several MU plays, especially Oso's dunk over Clingan.

That's great PR, and to me it's the main thing that makes being ranked matter. I always want our alma mater to be ranked, the higher the better.

I got an ESPN notification that said we're ranked 14th.  But haven't been able to find anything on twitter to confirm it.

edit: was just power rankings, ignore.

Roughly speaking several voters who I think do a solid job voting weekly have MUBB 14 this week.

Carino 9
Davis 12
Fanta doesn't have a vote 12
Steele 14 his first week voting.

Went down from 20 to 23 this week on Bruce Pascoe's ballot.

He must think Providence and Seton Hall are the 2 worst teams in the country.

Only one B1G team in the Top 25 for the 2nd best KPom Conference.  Yet six non Power 6 conferences with ranked teams. And, the NET has UCONN at #7, even though they have a 0.8% chance of solely winning the conference and only a 5.4% of sharing the title.

Crazy year

So what is more significant; the AP/Coaches poll or the NET/Kenpom?

goldeneagle91114

top, 5 loss, team. Seems that a lot of voters still playing close attention to overall record.

I had a good laugh when I read some of the teams listed as "receiving votes": Duke, UNC, UW, Kentucky, and MSU.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

NET is more significant for bracketology purposes.........AP has the best PR value

They serve different purposes.  Like, what's more significant... the price of gas or the octane rating?  Sometimes they're both important to people, but usually people want to know them for different reasons.
