"Right now Oregon, Oklahoma, Marquette, Clemson, Minnesota, and Texas A&M are the schools recruiting me the hardest," said Nolan. "At this point I have no yet scheduled any visits.

"I plan on making my decision pretty soon as me and my grandfather have been talking about it a little bit. As soon as we come to a clear understanding on a school that fits that will be when (the choice is made)."

LA

No visits scheduled, he is back in Milwaukee this year for school and will make a decision soon.....good sign for MU?

GGGG

Remember this is from him. I wonder how serious these schools are, including MU, if visits haven't been scheduled.

LA

I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to recruiting. What do you think MU's level of interest is in Nolan right now? Are we really going after him hard?

Stretchdeltsig

Since MU only has one scholarship left it's first come - first serve.  If Nolan is interested in MU, he should grab the offer!

Is it really that simple for him?  I often wonder how coaches handle that.  If Buzz would much rather have a different recruit who is giving MU good signals, but wants a little more time, I can't believe MU settles for someone lower on their list who will verbal immediately.  I'm not saying that's the case in this situation, or that it isn't first-come-first-serve in some situations, but I would think the timing game has to play out a lot in recruiting.

We R Final Four

I doubt if this is first come-first served.  Recruiting is a fluid animal with recruits and players heating up and cooling down all the time.  Things happen all the time which change this dynamic constantly.  When there are many more offers to players than there are available schollies, it is not a first come first served situation.

Honestly, Buzz plays it so close to the vest that it is hard to tell.  There are really only a few people who I trust with the "final word" on these types of things - IWB and Mark Miller being two of them.

I just find it interesting that he claims we, and others, are after him hard, but he hasn't scheduled any visits yet.

bamamarquettefan

He's 6-10, borderline top 100 recruit with 11 offers from pretty good schools according to rivals.  For me, you take him if he wants to come for the "one in hand better than 2 in the bush" theory.

But I'm glad I don't really have to make those decisions.

We've wished we hadn't offered others when jamil became available, and we've wished we kept on one point guard who may have slipped away because we though another was coming this year - leaving us short on this roster.  All tough calls, but my gut would certainly be to commit him I he wants to come.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Count me in as preferring to be in the bush vs having one in the hand camp.

+1.  preferably a nicely landscaped bush.

I believe(no inside knowledge) that Auguste is Plan A. Nolan not having any visits scheduled yet could mean a lot of things. He could be plan B for a lot of schools. He could be waiting to see who else the other team signs as playing time as a freshmen could be a major factor for him. He could be waiting for other schools to recruit him. Does anybody know, if his grandfather lives in Milwaukee?

remember what happened to Newbill. Not everything is certain in this world.

NersEllenson

Agree with Bilsu that Auguste is Plan A - no questions asked.  Buzz watched him several times - and the first day coaches were eligible to have contact with recruits this past July.

I certainly don't doubt that MU has strong interest in Nolan as well - call him Plan A(2).  Hopefully this doesn't end up like the Gabe York/Kris Dunn scenario - where we think we've got Auguste locked up, and it falls through - yet then Nolan doesn't come to MU either.

Recruiting is such a tough world.  All kids want to be top priorities of every school, yet every Top 100 kid has 15+ offers to choose from, and only 1 of 15 schools "wins.," so you have to have so many contingency plans - yet in so doing some recruits may perceive they were Plan B....
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

That scenario has only been speculated on MUScoop.  We have had no outside verification that this is how it went down.  I could just as easilly speculate that when TJ Taylor committed to transfer, that our interest in Dunn waned.

BCHoopster

Hey, I am sure it is a matter of who commits first, if Nolan gave a Buzz a commit, would Auguste be here this weekend?  Maybe,
maybe not.  If Nolan wants PT time, he has to beat out Taylor for the 4, same point for Auguste.  There is the opportunity in front of them for either.  It will be a nice weather weekend
so hopefully he will like it here. Up against Florida is not easy, much like York going to AZ.  I would rather fight northern schools. Todd Mayo might be the key to this recruiting since he
played out east.  Deonte Burton might help as well.

GGGG

He won't have to fight Taylor for PT "for the 4."  The way Buzz runs his offense, they could easilly be on the floor at the same time for extended periods.

Agreed, but Jamil Wilson will start at one spot, so in my mind only one of those kids will start.  Both will be on the court at times, but not alot.
Blue and Ferguson will get some PT at the small forward.

GGGG

Well, Jamil would start, but you have a nice rotation of Jamil, Juan, Taylor and hopefully Auguste at the forward spots.  They could easilly run three forwards at points too.  Add Burton to that mix the year after....WOW....that is one athletic front line.

Good forwards in the future, Burton in 2013 will be a nice back-up to Jamil, Juan can play small or even some 2 guard in the future.  The talent level is going up every year. This last touch
of Auguste would really help as he adds length, can not always play small.  Always liked players like Bo, Larry McNeal, Scott Merritt types.

bilsu

Maybe J. Wilson will be our starting point after Cadougan graduates.

No offense, but I reallly hope we don't recruit with this mentality.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
