There was a video glitch before the Colombian corner kick and they have not been able to re-sync.

Statement from a Hard Rock Stadium Spokesperson re: Copa America final:

In anticipation of tonight’s Copa America Final, thousands of fans without tickets attempted to forcibly enter the stadium, putting other fans, security and law enforcement officers at extreme risk. Security has shut the gates in order to control the entry process at a much slower rate and ensure everyone is kept safe.

As a result, tonight’s match start time has been delayed until further notice to accommodate for ticketed fans to be able to safely enter the stadium.

All fans without tickets MUST leave the Hard Rock Stadium premises. It is paramount to a successful and most importantly a safe match.

Hard Rock Stadium leadership will face criticism for dangerously mismanaged crowd control, but CONMEBOL rules dictate stadium access, ignored best practices and led to long waits for both media and fans at many venues throughout the tournament.

The limited access to entrances created huge backlogs of fans and made it easier for those without tickets to try to rush the gate.

We will eventually learn how many gates were scheduled to be staffed and opened, but that entrance plan is dictated by the host CONMEBOL.

Ultimately, it would be a mistake to assume the U.S. venues, including Hard Rock Stadium, aren't ready to host 2026 World Cup matches because of this mess. If you can handle Super Bowls and Taylor Swift and Beyoncé concert runs, you know how to manage crowds.

It looks like there's standing water on the pitch in Argentina's box, specifically on the line closest to the camera. It's hard to see unless the camera is one of the shallow-angle shots.

Miami's stadium, and other U.S. venues, have 2 years to figure out how to handle soccer fans. Hope they're up to the task. That was the very definition of sh!tshow.

Eh

Conmebol was responsible for everything at the stadium, including entry and security.

The world cup will be fine.

That was sort of my thought.  This stadium (and others hosting WC matches) has hosted Super Bowls, National Championship Games, Taylor Swift tours, Wrestlemania, etc... all in the last 5 years without issue.  The difference is CONMEBOL.

I obviously hope that this is correct and that whoever is in charge of security for the World Cup gets it right.

Biggest concern will be field size and quality IMO.
I'll stick with my opinion on Gold.  He'll be in foul trouble within the first eight minutes.

Spain coach Luis De La Fuente, who just led his team to a dominant showing in Euro 2024 that culminated in a title, is interested in coaching the United States men's national team, according to the Washington Post.

De La Fuente's representatives have emailed the U.S. Soccer Federation about the coach's interest in the position, they confirmed to the Post.

Yea, he has literally never left Spain in his entire 40+ years in top flight soccer, both playing and managing.  Actually very little time outside of Basque Country before taking the national team roles.  So for him to go to the US in his mid 60s, seems a bit odd, so yea, I would agree.

That being said, Ive seen Poch, Ive seen Rafa Benitez,  Ive seen Marcelo Gallardo.  So cautiously optimistic they may actually be contacting people outside of the usual suspects.

Agreed. No idea at this point, but the names being floated don't give the "just grab the first warm MLS manager you see" kind of vibe we've dealt with so often in the past.

A LOT of smoke around Viera being hired imminently.  Would be kind of disappointing to be honest.  Better than Cherundolo, but he’s been pretty bad since leaving NYCFC.  I don’t know what about his tenure at Palace or Strasbourg the last 4 years make you say “let’s hand him the keys for this window”.  Feels like he’s skating on his amazing playing career, just like Wayne Rooney still getting jobs

The Athletic is reporting that Poch is a favorite for the USMNT gig.
LFG (if true and it gets done).

Remaining skeptical as its come out that the "approach" to Matarazzo actually occurred in an real capacity via him or his representatives.  But it would certainly be an attractive buzzy hire and far more interesting and appealing than Viera

The USWNT has gotten some bad press the last few years.  Some of it justified, some of it definitely not.  But still,  perception issue compared to some of the late 2000s/early 2010s teams regardless of what you think.

But man was Emma Hayes an amazing hire on all fronts.  Awesome manager, great personality, and such an amazing outlook.  Her interview after the match today was tremendous.  Lord help us find a USMNT manager with a fraction of the skills and passion for the success of US Soccer that she does.
