They'll never get the 14 votes needed.  I understand why Wolves brought it up, and it definitely can be improved on, but there's no chance this goes through.

You're probably right, unfortunately.
What they should do is dump VAR and add at least one more referee.
It's nuts that in soccer, you're asking one referee (plus two linesmen with limited authority) to see everything that's occurring over an 81,000-square-foot playing surface.
For comparison's sake:
NFL - Seven officials for 57,600 square feet
NHL - Two referees + two linesmen for 17,000 square feet
NBA - Three officials for 4,700 square feet
MLB - Four umpires for 8,100 square feet (imperfect comp, but the vast majority of the calls are made within the diamond).

I get the concept around dumping VAR, but the first time there is a bad call, people will be wondering why its was dumped.

Beyond Marsch being hired by Soccer Canada, this is absolutely ABSURD

Speaking of Americans and soccer.  I was talking to my buddy during and after the LFC match on Saturday.  And I had completely forgotten the most amazing potential US dual national (who would have never happened in a million years)....Trent Alexander Arnold's mother is an American who was born in NYC.

He could probably get the job if he wanted it, although why would he want to go from one dysfunctional club to another, that can't even offer Europe?

Or Bayern

Shocked that Kompany's name is coming up for the Bayern gig.

Yes his Burnley squad last year was an absolute monster, but it was a EPL level squad that got relegated and had substantial talent.  This year they stunk back in the EPL.  Yes they had lacking talent, but he was also stubborn in his tactics and tried to play how he did when he had the talent advantage in the Championship.

Plus, his time at Anderlecht was fine, good but not great.  Certainly not a feather in the cap of a potential Bayern appointment.  I honestly think it would be generous to be a front runner for the Brighton gig he was also named with...much less Bayern

Bayern hiring Kompany after a pretty underwhelming season at Burnley is an interesting choice.

Performances like that are why the performance against Colombia is so frustrating.

Colombia was a complete disaster. Zero organization in the back. They were much improved in terms of defensive organization against Brazil, and honestly Scally did really well on Vinicius Jr (got burned a couple times, but who doesn't?). Turner was much better as well. Offensively, while we were clearly the second best side, we did create some real chances and could've won if not for some bad luck (crossbar hit off Allisson's back not going in) and some great keeping on their side.

I'm still out on Berhalter, though. Popping up with a great result after a complete disaster isn't doing it for me. Win the group, make a semifinal, then maybe he has something to talk about, but if we come second to Uruguay and bow out in the quarters, have we really made any progress?

A great result that was really only a great half.  The first half was pretty pedestrian save for a moment of absolute magic from Pulisic.  They did a great job on Vini, but he's been shockingly mediocre for Brazil in contrast to how otherworldly he is for Real Madrid.

Chalk this up to learning something new:
The Czech Republic is also known as Czechia

I am digging Euro 2024 so far. Go Spain, and France! Spain's 16 yr old phenom is going to be something.

My wife and I have booked our tickets for the USMNT Copa match in Kansas City v. Uruguay. Never been to a top level soccer game before, so we are excited about it. Staying down in the Power and Light District for a few days too.

That's awesome. National team games are an experience like no other.

Was recommended the Westside Local by a coworker before the first trip we took to KC. Couldn't recommend it anymore highly. It was so good that we got it to go on our way through to the Creighton game and ate it in the car. I got the sriracha chicken sandwich and it was by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The elote tots were awesome as a starter.

Power and Light district is cool. Lot of good food in that area as well.

Thank you. Very walkable from where we are staying.

Totally agree.  I went to a number of friendlies and Gold Cup matches at Soldier Field (which isn't exactly a great soccer venue) and they were all a blast.  There is a pride and energy level that makes it even more fun.

Will never forget the US-Poland friendly I went to on a Saturday night.  Bunch of bros from the South Side with thick Chicago accents and assorted Chicago flag tats FULLY leaning into their Polish grandparents (and I'm sure a few parents) to scream Polska and try to start fights with any US fans they could. Particularly funny cause they'd be drunkenly hugging and high fiving those same dudes during a Bears game at Soldier
