Thank you! It is about time someone throws out the elephant in the room! How many students could cram into the student sections in the old gym? We have 8,000 undergraduates here are MU. I dont know how many student tickets they sell, but I would guess AT LEAST 7,000. You cannot expect 7 out of every 8 students to come to every single game. This "lame" student section routinely fills an NBA arena...a feat the Bucks don't even do.

The Bradley Center holds under 20,000.  There is no way the student section takes up 1/3 of the seats.  Don't be silly.

Wrong. Try again. They sell approximately 4,100 student tickets.

Look at that! An insecure frat guy! How unusual!

I'm so convinced that you are secure.  I want to be secure to so i'll just act like you.  I'll start by attacking people who belong to subcultures that I'm not a part of and made choices i didn't make while in college.  Did you study abroad, i hear that everyone who did that shoves fruit up their ass.

LON

I thought shoving fruit up one's ass was a Rush week activity?

I really think there is a "to frat v not to frat" discussion somewhere in the superbar.

I don't see how game attendance has anything to do with that decision, so if you want to have a pissing match about frats go find that thread.

The only thing you've posted on this 4-page thread is that holier-than-thou comment telling people to take a light-hearted side convo elsewhere. If you're not participating in the thread, what do you care?

How about you give us your take on the Marquette crowd/student section/attendance?

alright, so what are some comparisons to the "golden years" when everyones brother and mother dropped everything to go to the game. Did you/they house 4,000 students?

I live in TN, so unfortunately I can't offer an opinion on an event that I have not been able to experience in some time. I really dont think anyone cares to hear about how great the student section was back in 1998-2002, and that's all I can contribute at this point.

If you felt my comment was holier than thou, that's your opinion, but in past threads the frat debate that was developing always ends the same way. And despite my not posting in the thread, I was still "participating" by reading it.

If they sell 4100 student tickets out of a student base of 8000 - many of which are commuters - I think that's pretty good.  From my unscientific analysis Saturday, it looked like around 2000 students in the student section.

Really?  I only knew one person that commuted during my 4 years at MU ending in 2003.  Is that a newer trend?  Does it have to do with the economy?

There was probably right around 3,000 there on Saturday.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

I stand corrected.  When I went I knew many commuters, but I have no idea what the percentage is today.  Heck, at University of Chicago, even if you live in the city they make you stay in a dorm your freshman year.  I don't know if MU has a similar policy these days.

Might want to take another look at the number of people the residence halls hold.

2 700 person buildings
7 300 person buildings

Plus Campus Town and Humphrey, and that's just the university owned buildings...

Tower still around?
It is now Carpenter Tower to distinguish it from Straz Tower, I guess.

Yes, I always referred to them by Carpenter and Straz to distinguish.

Where is McCabe Hall?

Ya, it is on Wisconsin ave. and 17th. I have yet to be in McCabe, but supposedly the rooms are really nice and spacey.

OT: That is why McCormick needs to eventually be torn down. The standard for residence halls these days are large, suite style rooms.

I think the fact that there is a post complaining about the students
not following the "marquette ways" of the past is b.s. I'm really sorry
a sell-out crowd for a USF isn't enough to you.  But perhaps instead of
blaming the kids who are paying $35,000 a year (not including bar tabs)
to try and carry on your marquette legacy, you should talk to Fr. Wild or
the spirit committee on ways to get the students more involved for
games. Complaining about it on a blog-site is just pointless.
