I just got home from the PPA Challenger event at Lake Hallie, WI (Eau Claire area), competing in men's singles. Two pools of 5, top 2 in each pool advance to medal round (semi's). I still don't know how to play singles strategy wise, but learning quickly and it's a blast. Went to the medal round.. played top seed and lost 15-13. Bro is a 4.4 doubles guy and 4.3 singles from Canada. Very good.

Bronze match I played another Canadian .. I was better, but was flippin tired. Went down 1-10 because of laziness. Then I got my second wind.. came back to lead 13-11. Then took a dump on the court. Absolutely out of gas. It was getting freaking hot out there around 1pm. Lost again 15-13.

Tough to be so close, yet so far, but just my second singles tourney and again learned a lot.

This was the first tourney I've been in with actual refs for each game. At first I was a little freaked by it because I didn't know PPA refs would be doing our games.. but after a few minutes I came to like it. Favorite part of the refs was getting a verbal warning for profanity. It was the last game of the day.. and I had been trying to control my potty mouth (not easy).. guy tries to lob on me.. I meant to kill him on a beautiful angle, but instead sent back an absolute dud to the middle of the court.. right when I hit it I yelled, 'SH1T!' and the crowd started laughing because of how loud it was.. but, guy returned it back and I finished him off with the next shot (pawz).  But then the ref scolded me.

PS - I think the cardio comps might be off. Not to mention, I think some of us PB players play for a lot longer than tennis ze's. I'm flippin exhausted.. early AM start .. and lots of time in the car.. fortunately I procured a case of Spotted Cow on the way home and am downing one now.. probably will have a couple more, then it may be a super early bed time. #Relationships #Growth #AlmostVictory

The fact that a "crowd" laughs in shock and a verbal warning over one swear word tells you all you need to know about pickleball.

Isn't swearing a no no in tennis? I think the fact there are events where there are refs who issue warnings in pickleball makes it 100% legit (but also, eff em).

Again, the crowd laughed because of the volume and deep bass emanating from my gastric depths, as well as it being yelled the middle of a rally.

But, haters gonna hate and flamers gonna flame. You got both on lock.

Hi pickleball friends,

Big weekend here in Minnesota. The Pints and Paddle Summer Slam and Jam kicks off with a Pro MLP-style competition Thursday night. There are approximately 1,000 participants in this event from Friday-Sunday (18 court outdoors; 10 indoor). I'm scheduled to compete on Friday (mixed doubles) and Sunday (men's doubles). #Pray

Still adjusting to wearing eye protection.. my first pair of glasses are fine, but the sweat/glare/etc. is not ideal... therefore, I purchased a baby blue pair of Kitchen Blockers, which is eye protection without a lens -- should arrive Friday AFTER my tourney action. Not sure if I'll wear on Sunday -- might need a little time for acclimation.

After returning from Florida last week (shotout to my peeps at Whispering Pines in Port St. Lucie), it's been busy. [PS - I see an opportunity for an indoor club(s) in the Palm Beach area].

On Saturday, played in a 5-hour, 15 match men's round robin tourney (enter as an individual, rotate through diff partners).. 4.0-4.25, missed gold by a fricken point but took silver.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I have done two-a-days. Not super intentional about it - I actually need some rest - but things come up and so it's been 3.5-5 hours a day. Will try to scale back today and tomorrow (although I'm heading to the park in an hour or so this morning).

Took some liquid IV on Saturday, along with eating Honey Stingers and bananas during the tourney, and I felt pretty good at the end. Also tried Gatorlyte -- which I think is them saying, "hey, this is Gatorade, but it actually works a little bit".  Will try to stay heavily-hydrated and go full blast during this weekend's tourney. Any tips for energy and hydration, pals? I am smelling salt-curious.

Good luck!

We were out eating at a pizza place this weekend and they had pickleball on FS1 on the TV right in front of our table.  I watched for a single set and decided to turn my attention to the muted Law & Order on the other tiny TV in the restaurant instead, with no closed captioning.  Still was far more entertaining than watching the men's pickleball finals at some tournament that I assume was a big deal.  A 48 year old was playing in the Finals lol.  "Athletics" at its finest.

Loved that teams would intentionally lob shots up to let the other team attempt overhead shots right at the net, knowing the ball doesn't move anyway.

Mushrooms might've been the only thing that could've made that entertaining.

My tennis teammate has some bone fragments in his elbow and needs to take 6-8 weeks off so he started playing pickleball but lefty.

Ive played it pickleball a bit.  Its fun.  My BIL and SIL have a sportcourt in their backyard they have painted with the lines and throw nets up when my nephew isn't hooping.  I played lots of tennis in my teens and 20s and I definitely prefer that, but I get it.

That being said, it's HORRIFIC TV viewing.  Like unbearably bad, I'd probably watch any other net sport gladly over it.  And that's saying something cause my team in India had me watch a big Badminton tournament on TV once when I was there, and outside of the handful of highlight shots, it stinks as well.

May what?
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

I watched Jack Sock on TV playing in a Pickleball tournament. Kind of fun watching a former pro tennis player play. I think he lost too.

He's an interesting player. Name is the same as what Reeko keeps under his bed.

Any good indoor clubs in the Milwaukee metro? Might try to drop in a league and/or open play

Won my first match of the fall season 6-2, 6-2. I'm more of a defensive player (short, fast) but finally got to play someone who was more defensive than me. Fun to rip winners for a change.

Ran 3.5 miles during the match tonight. About the same amount I'd run in a pickleball season.
