I think we see Koby with lots of minutes to defend Cade.

Idiotic foul by 22
THanks for the flagarant.
Dirty. Both the dunk and the play from the defender.
Cain gotta get better at the rim cause he would be unstoppable down there.
Kills it on the boards and that lob in bounds play

Dexter in.
Eeek DJ. Cant make that pass with all momentum. And got yourself a foul.
Great dime to Dawson before that though.

Well
Not a good sequence for Dex at all
Is there a game chat?
Dexter doesn't look all there yet. Needs to sit back down and go through practices
Got caught with the wrong line up in for the zone press and zone
Pretty bad last couple of minutes
Akanno rusty. Out.
Not a great start for Dexter. Essentially three straight turnovers on his first three touches. He will be fine but that is an ugly start.
Welp. Akanno. Ummm
Call a timeout and show your team a couple zone beaters, Wojo...
That timeout should have come about 4 possessions ago.
This is a brutal stretch.
Zone and we are not just dumping it into Dawson constantly? Instead dexter is forcing?
Hopeful for dexter but this is not the game to just give Dex a run.

Honestly. Let's give up basically the entire lead when it's obvious the team is lost against the zone.
0-15 run. Not good.
Our zone offense seems to be to get Cain 3s. Odd.
Why did Cain not contest that 3?

Cuz he was five feet behind the line?
OSU's zone is a little different than UAPB's.
Can't let bad offense turn in to bad defense like we did during that stretch
How many times down the floor have we settled for a 3 since they started running the zone? Have Dawson run the offense out of the elbow with Theo running the baseline!
Woj really got caught flat footed here, too slow to react. I'm cool with a coach seeing a switch happen, and taking a timeout a possession or two early, than waiting until it's too late. Ugh.
That hurt. Dawson at the line, Dawson at the line, Dawson at the line. My 8th grade team knows this....

Stop turning it over. Keep getting open shots like the last few possessions. They'll start missing the deep 3s
The biggest issue is we have completely stopped playing D and they are hitting everything.
Finally. Dawson at the line!!!!
hows walker scoring in that position lol..
Lets see if that Theo O board and Kick out to Koby shifts the Mo
Gotta make our free throws though.
Judging by his body language, Cunningham's expecting superstar calls.
Is it just me or is this white noisy crowd noise super annoying!?
Gah that was great ball movement then Theo travels.
Dexter Diaster hurt big time. MU up ten, enter Dexter. Missed three, two turnovers lead to five points and a foul.
Turnovers are brutal, killing them.
OSU serious foul problems now. Take advantage.
More Carton, less Torrance please.
Greg injureded?
I'll take 1 Theo every 2 years please
Dj has the make up of an absolute stud.
But every turn over of his is like 3rd grade stuff and then he spends an entire possession dribbling in 1 place and passes to Koby to force him into a 40 footer.

Symir does nothing for me.
We let our terrible stretch offensively affect our defensive energy. I expect bad stretches on offense early this year. The defense needs to be there for 40 minutes every night or we won't be very good.
Is our rim defense pretty good or are they just throwing out of control junk up there?
Lewis is a board. Dude is everywhere on the glass.
Lewis is excellent at walling up. Much better at avoiding fouls as a freshman than Theo was.
Free throws gonna be an issue this year. Need Koby to find his form cause hes our 1 proven guy.
We definitely got this game if we can limit all the stupid sh it. 13 TO's is crazy. And it seems like ever since they made their run weve felt the pressure to force it on offense any time we get a stop.
Dawson taking the longest 2 possible. Justin dribbling into the lane with 3 guys there.

He just got too much Derrick in his offense right now. Teams don't respect him as a scorer at all. His attempted drive late in the half I think had 3 cowboys defenders chuckling as he came at them.

I like Lewis coming up as the big man against the zone, but he's coming out too far rather than staying at the free throw line for the catch.
We have got to stop being so sloppy. Jamal bounce passes a 2 on 1 in to a foot. Leads to easy Cunningham basket

Not a single guy can stop turning it over. THeo had Greg wide open. Holds it, then chucks it a skipper out of bounds.

This is on Wojo. Totally.
Wojo should be fired just for that possession alone.
Did we just never anticipate playing a zone defense?
Woj, what would you say you do here?
Wojo calls timeout: team let's shot clock expire. Frustratingly stupid basketball.
ive never seen this before. This like a top 5 Cuse zone vs a kenpom 345 team. Thats how id describe this. How is it possible to have no zone offense at all.
Hoping this is one of those games we lose early due to inexperience and all the new guys. I hope we show some more toughness later in the year.
Wojo = Adam Gase
I would only play zone against MU if I were an opposing coach.
Nobody who can really stretch the floor on a consistent basis this year. Maybe again but they can't get the ball to him.

5 baskets made
10 turnovers made.
Nice half
Impossible
Make that 11

Koby should not be starting.
Jamal should not be starting.
That is unnatural carnal knowledgeed up.
Cade Cunningham doesn't look
Like a World beater. Our offense looked just terrible.
Typically I am very optimistic. But this was disappointing.
1:30 left in the game down 10 and we take it down to 5 on the shot clock!?
WHAT THE unnatural carnal knowledge!
who the hell do you suggest statrt? jose? Sy? DJ? they all shat the bed today sadly
Best part about this game is that it will be over.
Miraculously it will be a short season, glad we wont have to suffer through 20 games. I love MUBB but year after year of mediocrity gets so old. Here's hoping something worthwhile happens next couple games. Beating WI would help.

Because every other guard is scared to do anything.
It's kind of crazy how not a single player had a good game today. Like everyone was bad

OK. I'll be the first to throw out the legitimate excuses. Over 50% of MUs scoring is gone. A bunch of young guys playing. 14 days of no practice due to Covid.
But, lots of talent out there, and Wojo need to fix it this year (well, next year due to covid).
That would play if it wasn't the same thing as when those factors aren't at play. Other coaches out-adjust Wojo so completely, game in and game out. 20 points in the first 8 min, 24 in the next 20. No movement, no tweaks, just stagnant.
This is a top 25 roster with tons of talent, just no guidance from the top

Not like DJ, or Sy we're doing anything to initiate the offense.
The cherry on top would've been a completely vapid huddle speech where Wojo essentially encourages the guys to try harder. Shame we missed out on that honestly.

Just got my bingo
Wojo has to go...we've seen this sh1t too many times. I don't mind missed shots, but he has 3/4 of the game to figure out the zone and it got worse as the game went on. This isn't me reacting to one bad game in a new season...rather multiple examples of an inability to coach to the basics. That zone was sh1t...you won't see them use it to that level of success ever again this year.

Hi Johnny,
Thanks for asking. Sy is already starting.
Second I do think DJ should be starting.
I also now feel JL should be starting.
But if you'd like to stick with jamal who can't dribble more than 3 feet and Koby that's fine.
Oh also I think Greg could start. He at least had energy.
But I guess you're right.
You can hear some of these questions in Lavin's commentary. I think he was incredulous that MU can't solve a zone. "It's not like Wojo has never seen a zone."
Wojo is a terrible coach. He's a GREAT recruiter but I actually think he's just kind of dumb.
If he's benching Garcia this early in the season, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the year.
This was a disastrous performance.
After two blowouts, the Garcia, Carton and Theo to NBA just slowed down.
The Dexter Decision really hurt. MU up ten and Dexter lead to 7 opponents points in like two minutes.
Garcia and Lewis scoreless in second half, but Lewis had 13 boards and two blocks.
Garcia sat for a long, long, time after he did something wrong in first few minutes of second. Maybe too long.
Jamal played with heart, 13 points and 13 rebounds. Everyone else not so good.
I still don't understand how over the years, Wojos teams have gone thru scoring droughts of immense proportions. Tonight was in a class by itself, but has always been a point of contention.

good assessment of Wojo...kind of dumb. I'd agree. I mean, he proves it each game.
I think I heard the shot clock buzzer more times tonight than in a typical 6-8 game stretch. That was hard to watch everyone just standing around.
Very simple... we've got no 3 point shooting. The future formula to beat us has been revealed; just play zone and rebound the bricks. Poor Garcia.
Wojo doesn't have an alpha on the team that can break down defenses which puts pressure on a bunch of shooters to overcompensate and make plays. That's the main issue with this team and will plague them most of the season. They'll get some favorable matchups here and there along with a few great nights of shooting but any athletic team will put pressure on them. MU doesn't have a counter for that. This team is 2 dimensional on offense - at best. One person like Dominic James would make all the difference for this team and make them a tough matchup by being able to breakdown the opposing defense. MU will get blown out by teams with stifling, quick guards that create turnovers. MU lacks a legit ball handler. Honesty I was surprised Ok. St. didn't pressure sooner. The game was closer than it should have been.
Otherwise, I'm surprised by how well the defense plays.
No way to beat the zone. Still.
We played good defense. So did OS. Right on no legit ball handler, no go-to guy. Hopefully we get better.
The reality is that this team is not a good shooting team, including FT%. Defensively, they're solid.
The only way this team finishes over .500 is to play error-free (limited turnovers) basketball. Not particularly optimistic based on the history of Wojo's teams.
At least with Markus Howard we had a player that brought MU some pub and was fun to watch. Now? Back to low IQ Wojo and the normalcy of mediocrity and insignificance.

They literally are built like a Badgers squad......
Worse than the game, worse than the refs, worse than the fans, were the TV crew. One comment was that he "handled the ball like like it was a tangerine". Never shut up so we could watch the game -- are all press who cover the game told NEVER have any time that you are not bloviating? Finally had to turn off the sound.

But they looked so good in those uniforms adorned with BLM patches. Making political statements is far more important than playing quality basketball.

Poor Garcia? Hard to zone a team when you have a 6'11" kid that has a good mid game and can hit the 3. He wasn't used correctly at all.
Folks get tired of rants against Wojo, but what happened in this game is a multi-game annual occurrence. 15-0 runs. No answer for a zone. Players seemingly unenthused. And, it would appear, the roster is once again unbalanced as outside shooting is suspect. Wojo has recruited some nice players during his time at MU, but never a cohesive team. I anticipate a better effort on Friday, but the result will be another L to RED.

+1,000 - different year, same problems
I am of two minds. The team has all new pieces and very little time together b/c of COVID--so there is a rational out. However, because of the coaching track record, I am not sure that it's a good excuse.
The fact we have seen this movie over and over again clearly keeps building frustration. Plus the rotations, the use of our skillsets and the fact we were trying to dibble through a zone for 15 mins was just so wrong. Instead of 'hey they haven't worked on this' it looked like 'we have no idea what to do and are receiving poor direction'.
We're the announcers in the arena last night or were they calling the game from a studio?

Early season hoops has its painful moments and teams will suck on occasion. Last night we saw what has been painfully often for awhile. Is it a single occurrence or will the team grow from it and improve?
No one expects an undefeated season, many teams MU will play are better. But playing lost and confused repeatedly is simply bad coaching and an abuse of player's talent that they have entrusted with MU.
Many of us are tired of the same problems demonstrated year after year and nervously await that they finally improve.
Frustration with not being able to solve the zone defense that OK State threw at us. Bobby Knight, when a color commentator said, if they throw a 2-3 zone at you you feed a guy at the free throw line which opens things up. If a 3-2 you flood the baseline with three guys. We have guys who can hit a a three, including Garcia and Cain.
It's a mystery.

Your words are perfect! Fans are upset with Wojo's failures but it is easy to forget that the players are really the ones he let down. They get a lot of the blame and have a
right to good coaching. I have always believed that an entire team cannot fail in unison. Whether the team is Marquette or Hicksville College is irrelevant. A so-called team wide failure is simply a cover story for bad coaching.

Bad coaching is there, but players are on the floor and yesterday to often they did not understand clock management. I would expect the Badgers to not play any
zone, not in there make-up but play as good as man D as anyone in the country. Lets see how they play against that. Then maybe against GB, they might see some
zone if Will Ryan is smart enough to do that. More concerned when they go to Creighton, try and not get blown out there. The point guards have to be better. Carton
has to value the ball better, make some shots. Torrence, not sure what he brings yet. Both players do not have jump shots or quick shots, more like set shots, and that is a problem against the zone.
