Trump quarantining after White House adviser Hope Hicks tests positive for COVID-19

President Donald Trump announced he and the first lady are beginning to quarantine after White House adviser Hope Hicks tested positive for the coronavirus.
Hicks tested positive for the coronavirus after she traveled with Trump in the last few days, according to a person familiar with Hicks' situation.
Trump said he and Melania Trump took coronavirus tests and were awaiting results.
Jonathan Reiner, professor of medicine and surgery at the George Washington University, said in tweets that those who traveled with Trump this week should quarantine themselves.
"Since the president has been potentially exposed to the coronavirus, he should quarantine at home for 14 days and be separated from the Vice President to reduce the possibility that they both contract the virus," he said.

We will see if he stays in for two weeks, as recommended by the physician quoted in the article.

I've seen contradicting information on this. Some reports say that he is quarantining, others say he plans to go to fundraising events and a Florida rally tomorrow, provided his test is negative.
Will be interesting to see if he actually quarantines.
Frankly, it would be surprising if he is already positive. If he indeed develops COVID, it would be a bit more likely in a couple days, unless of course his exposure was to some other third party that may have infected both Trump and Hicks.
Curious as to why there was such a delay in notifying everyone. Apparently they knew about this yesterday. Trump even attended a fundraiser today, after they knew about the exposure.
Well that answers that. Trump COVID positive.
Something seems odd timeline wise, but that means that he was COVID positive during a fundraiser TODAY, that he attended despite knowing about exposure to Hicks.

Other aspects. Who else is positive at this point. Other family members?
Flotus and Potus both could have been infectious at the debate. Was Biden exposed? Trump family members refused to wear masks, were any of them positive?
Things could get crazy.

Indeed.
Hopefully there was enough distance between Biden and Trump to prevent Biden from getting infected. It is potentially devastating for anyone to get it, but Biden has done the right things in terms of remote campaign events and wearing a mask in public.
As for the remainder of Trump's family and traveling party...the flights and other traveling together make it hard to imagine there won't be at least a few more. I really hope I am wrong about that.
And Pence needs to be sequestered as far away from people as possible....
Hallie Jackson reports that Jim Jordan, exposed maskless to Hicks and both Trumps who now have Covid, is declining to quarantine.
Un-F*ing-believable!!!

THIS IS 2020
I am aware of all of the potential political implications. I won't dwell on them for a second. This is certainly nothing to celebrate. My only hope is that this finally breaks down the resistance of the anti-maskers. The deniers. That finally everybody takes it seriously and that everybody starts taking the necessary steps to slow infection. That the stupidity ends.

Post of the year
I wish everyone afflicted with COVID a speedy recovery.
But, how contact tracing and notifying those exposed to the president, his wife, and Hope Hicks was an outright failure. Trump was still holding fundraisers after being knowingly exposed, no one on the Biden campaign was notified, press on the plane were not notified. Quite frankly probably 100's exposed to them were not notified. They heard about it on the news.
There is a continuing lack of organization and responsiveness on everything COVID. That is nothing but gross negligence.

I know it's unlikely, but in the event that POTUS and VP are out of commission due to Covid temporary powers are granted to Speaker of the House, wouldn't that galvanize his supporters more to enhance the narrative that there's a coup? We could be seeing some 4D chess here.

A big question is, who did POTUS and FLOTUS contract the virus from. The timeline for Hope Hicks doesn't make sense, since they exhibited symptoms and tested positive a day apart.
That means there was likely a common person of exposure for the three of them. Who else was present during that exposure?

From the NYT:
Trump went ahead with a fund-raiser in New Jersey on Thursday even after Hope Hicks had tested positive for the coronavirus, the White House acknowledged on Friday.
As the news that Trump had tested positive himself upended the presidential campaign on Friday, new details emerged about how he spent the week. Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, told reporters that the president's top aides learned of Hicks's test result as Trump was leaving the White House by helicopter en route to Joint Base Andrews for the flight to New Jersey.
"We discovered as Marine One was taking off yesterday," Meadows said on Friday. "We pulled some of the people traveling in close contact."
But Trump went ahead with the trip and appeared before hundreds of supporters at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., both outside and indoors. Meadows did not explain why Trump proceeded with the trip to New Jersey knowing of Hicks's condition, given her proximity to Trump.
At the fund-raiser, where the president came in contact with about 100 people, he seemed lethargic according to several in attendance.
So yes, even as he was asking supporters to fork over thousands and thousands of dollars, Trump was knowingly putting them all at risk of contracting a virus that he himself has called "5 times more deadly than even your strenuous flus."
Wow.

The monoclonal antibodies are being used under something called 'expanded access' or 'compassionate use,' a provision in the FDA regulations for patients who have "an immediately life-threatening condition or serious disease or condition to gain access to an investigational medical product (drug, biologic, or medical device) for treatment outside of clinical trials when no comparable or satisfactory alternative therapy options are available." When I have seen this provision used in the past, it was for people like end-stage cancer patients who had failed other treatment regimens and are literally on death's door. In other words, a desperate Hail Mary pass.
Given that other therapeutic combinations (particularly vitamin C, zinc and dexamethasone) have shown great promise, the expanded access use of the antibodies tells me that he is more ill than they are letting on.

I don't think he is necessarily more ill than they are letting on. These monoclonal antibodies were the treatment that I though would come online first.
I think this is a case where it's the president, has a good safety profile, and he is 74. A 74 year old that may have had a stroke earlier this year. He likely had a high viral titer with no antibodies yet. He is the poster child of someone at great risk.
This was likely precautionary, so that he doesn't turn south...because if he does, I don't think he makes it.

This was likely precautionary, so that he doesn't turn south...because if he does, I don't think he makes it.
That is certainly possible as well.
Still, given the high success rates that have been reported recently with other regimens, I think it is very possible that he is gravely ill. The fact that we have not yet heard from the physicians treating him also raises concerns.
Anyhow, time will tell.
Quote from: GooooMarquette on October 02, 2020, 08:38:45 PM

I totally understand that, and agree.
Just putting some background facts out there for context. And again, it is not as though there are no other effective therapies available.
If he really is doing well, it would be good to hear it from his treating physicians. We knew far more about Reagan within a couple of hours of him being shot.
Guess we will see.

I feel badly for all the Secret Service agents, lower-level administration employees, White House staff, Air Force One employees, reporters, and various other relatively powerless people who were exposed by a "leader" who has refused to lead for most of a year now.

It appears they are quite literally giving him everything. I saw reports that he is getting the Vitamin C, Zinc, Dex cocktail. He got Regeneron, and now tonight they have also given him Remdesivir.
I find this all quite odd. If you want to know the truth, I think Trump is freaked out and is demanding that he is given everything, and right now the doctors are obliging.
Either that, or he has some very serious underlying conditions that they are hiding from the rest of America. Some combination of underlying conditions that has the doctors and experts frightened enough to act extremely proactively.

Wow - I didn't know he was getting Remdesovir too. If that's the case, you are probably right that he is simply demanding everything, or has more comorbidities than previously disclosed.
It renews my concern about the severity of his symptoms... and makes me wonder about the possibility of some unforeseen drug interaction. POTUS might be the first human being ever to receive both Remdesovir and the monoclonal antibodies. If so - wow.

Hydroxychloroquine Doctor is Furious Donald Trump Took 'Experimental Antibody Stupidness'
"A doctor notorious for claiming hydroxychloroquine is a "cure" for COVID-19 has denounced White House doctors for not giving President Donald Trump the drug to treat his infection.
Dr. Stella Immanuel, who gained fame in July after Trump retweeted a video showing her touting the malaria drug, expressed outrage in a series of tweets on Friday, condemning the medical decisions of "bozo doctors" who surrounded the president after he tested positive for COVID-19.
"Instead of giving the president of the United States a known safe drug," Immanuel tweeted. "They gave him some experimental antibody stupidness. This is so dumb. Please potus family you guys wake up. Give him HCQ, Zpack & zinc asap."
"Whoever told the president to stop taking HCQ should be punched in the face," she said in an earlier tweet. "This did not have to happened. I am so upset. This is our president for crying out loud. No one need to get sick or pcr positive."

It may just be that normal rules don't apply when you're treating POTUS. And probably shouldn't.
If anything they should be more careful with the president, I think this strategy is insane. This strikes me (admittedly without direct evidence) as a powerful guy leaning on his doctors to throw everything at it to try to recover quickly to prove how strong he is and that the virus isn't a big deal. But the doctors I respect say they wouldn't even treat themselves this way. There's a reason we run clinical trials, and it's because most drugs, even those with "bio-plausibility," have none to marginal benefit and potential safety issues. Even an approved drug that on average reduces length of hospital stay by 15% can make a big difference at the population level but if it has adverse events for 0.1% that may be a risk not worth taking for the president. The approved drugs he's taking are not indicated for his reported condition. And there certainly are no trials evaluating safety or efficacy of this crazy cocktail he's taking. Can you imagine the conspiracy theories that would come out of this if the president got sick or worse, not due to the virus per se but due to this evidence free vip medicine?

That Kellyanne lied is pretty much assumed. It is just about all she does. She invented the term "alternative facts."
The real issue is that she is so immoral, she had no problem knowingly exposing others to a deadly disease.
Similarly ...
Her boss has done a lot of terrible things these last 4 years, but an argument can be made that this was the very worst:
He knowingly exposed friends and supporters of his to a deadly virus just to extract money from them.
Think about how bad that is. What kind of human being would do such a thing?
It was an indefensible, evil, possibly criminal act.

Agree that it's far-fetched. I have represented docs for years, and have consistently advised that they are under no obligation to provide every treatment a patient demands, and have strongly advised against treatments the doc thinks are ill-advised.
The only caveat here is if the docs at Walter Reed are also members of the military. On the one hand, they have their professional obligations (and liability concerns) as physicians; but on the other they might have an obligation to comply with orders from a senior officer in the chain of command. And the Commander in Chief is as senior as they get. [Insert bone spur joke here.] I honestly don't know how this works in military facilities if a senior military official 'orders' ill-advised care, but I can see it as a possible dilemma. Could they be forced to choose between a possible malpractice lawsuit or a court martial? Again - I honestly don't know.

They also have a duty not to obey an unlawful order. Whether providing dangerous medical care qualifies as a lawful order, I don't know, but it's not as simple as "do what the president says."
Regardless, unless you think the doctors are all lying, it seems as if Trump's condition is improving and he's not currently in peril.

And now Chris Christie has it.
Trump's willingness to expose so many people -- most of whom are his own supporters and even friends -- to a deadly virus should tell anybody all they need to know about him.
As for Christie, this from the NYT:
Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey who for several days this week helped the president prepare for the debate, said he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Mr. Christie said Saturday that he would be receiving medical attention the same day.
"I just received word that I am positive for COVID-19," Mr. Christie said on Twitter. "I want to thank all of my friends and colleagues who have reached out to ask how I was feeling in the last day or two."
Mr. Christie was one of several advisers who huddled with President Trump and others for debate preparation from Sunday to Tuesday. Mr. Christie also attended a White House event on Sept. 26 for Judge Amy Coney Barrett in the Rose Garden.
The debate preparation team included Hope Hicks, one of Mr. Trump's his closest advisers, Stephen Miller, the president's speechwriter and top domestic policy adviser, and Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump's personal lawyer and the former mayor of New York.
None of them wore masks, Mr. Christie said.
Mr. Christie's statement came one day after Senator Thom Tillis, Republican of North Carolina and Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, announced that they had tested positive. Both attended the event for Judge Barrett. A video posted on Twitter shows Mr. Lee hugging people at the event.I'd say it was a shocking level of denying science and ignoring the administration's own guidelines ... but really, there's nothing shocking about it.
As I believe tower said, maybe the good that will come out of all of this is that the president of the United States will
finally act like a leader, and that his loyal followers will
finally stop putting themselves and others at jeopardy because of, you know, "freedom."
I have my doubts, but here's hoping.

Lee hugging people at the event.
I'd say it was a shocking level of denying science and ignoring the administration's own guidelines ... but really, there's nothing shocking about it.
As I believe tower said, maybe the good that will come out of all of this is that the president of the United States will finally act like a leader, and that his loyal followers will finally stop putting themselves and others at jeopardy because of, you know, "freedom."
I have my doubts, but here's hoping.
Has there been any report about Stephen Miller and Giuliani's test results?
Ron Johnson attended a dinner last night after testing positive. Incredible.

The president that is "For America" intentionally showed up late to the presidential debate so he wouldn't be tested for a virus that is killing hundreds of thousands of people in America, then mocked his opponent for wearing a mask to help stop the spread of this virus during the debate, and now is hospitalized because of this virus and people all over the White House and his campaign are getting the virus. For America, baby.
Bruh, he better hope no one does as a direct result of this.

If you are awaiting a pending result, you should be in quarantine.

I don't think it was a coincidence. All the information on positive tests coming out seems to indicate that Trump was likely the epicenter of the spread.
Secondary question. Apparently Trump has pretty severe symptoms, if he recovers quickly due to getting both Regeneron and Remdesivir, could that blowback on him a bit with over 200,000 dead, many of whom were sent home from ERs far sicker than him and told to take Tylenol.
I understand he is the president and should get the highest level of care possible, but it also, in general, shows inequities in the health care system.

Perhaps at the moment, but they also reminded everyone that days 7-10 are critical. Once you've been on oxygen, then off again, the chances of a relapse after several days are significant.

I was at a conference where a person was showing how much data they could extract from publicly available sources using machine learning algorithms.
They analyzed all of Trump's tweets as a fun demonstration. They then showed that based on linguistic traits, spelling errors, and times of day, that they could identify 3 distinct individuals tweeting from his account.

Trump's Covid Treatments Suggest a Serious Condition

Update of earlier NYT article, with comments from several outside docs on how they interpret the messages from POTUS' treating physicians. The consensus seems to be that he may be more ill than they are letting on (both because of the need for oxygen and the 'multi-therapy' approach), and there is division on whether combining all these therapies is a good idea. FWIW.

Very early on in this I indicated that the most likely therapeutic to deliver a major boost to fighting this disease were the monoclonal antibody cocktails. I indicated they could be scaled up fast if needed.
Trump was given one of those drugs and seems to being doing well. Problem is, it won't be available to the rest of us anytime soon.
This was a major strategical error. As part of operation "warp speed" the government should have invested in the production of these antibody cocktails months ago, and did parallel phase 1/2 trials like they did for the vaccines. Had they done so, we could have millions of doses or Regeneron and similar medicines available right now, or very shortly.
This wasn't done.

Not that this doctor has ever given out less than accurate info, but medical folks are pointing out some discrepancies in his treatment.
So dexamethasone was found to be beneficial ONLY in patients on a ventilator OR on oxygen. NOT on patients who don't need oxygen. There was even the possibility of harm in that patient population.

Typically most patients do not develop severe enough disease to warrant hospitalization until day 5-8 of the illness. We are only at day 4, that we know of, so although he is doing well caution should be observed.
Severe illness that warrants ICU care can take up to 2-weeks to occur. The question going forward is to how his body will respond as the disease progresses.
So far so good, likely due to the best care in the world.
edit: A turn for the worse here would be an incredibly bad sign. At this point they've exhausted all treatment options. So if things get worse, they don't have any more weapons to deploy.
The doctor said expected findings.
From a radiologist friend:

The same reason they announced he would go to the hospital after the markets closed on Friday. They're doing whatever they can to keep uncertainty / panic down. And I think most admins would do the same.
The proof is in the pudding. If Trump is home by Monday / Tuesday, he probably has a good chance of resuming a normal workload. If he's still there Tuesday night, that's a big tell.
Even if you have the view that the administration is giving us good information, I find it hard to pick out Which of it to believe. Meadows, the team of white coats that got the start point 'wrong', the guy says he wanted to reflect the positive message of the White House?

First, the doc said he "may" be discharged tomorrow. Nothing definitive.
Second, even if he is discharged, he will go to a place that has a nicely equipped hospital unit and a team of docs watching him 24/7.
Third, many patients have been discharged, only to return in far worse condition. One common denominator in many of those cases was low enough O2 saturation levels to require oxygen.

But the whole point is that these agents now have to quarantine because they have been a close contact to a positive case. For an absolutely unnecessary appearance.
And apparently you don't care.

I'll choose to ignore what you say since I know the uber bias it's coming from. But you teed it up so nicely to make a larger point that I added afterwards - everything having to do with a Republican is a political point waiting to be made. Even their own medical treatment. There has to be a there there.
Perhaps, and hear me out here, it's way past time to examine your own bias.

"He has experience — now — fighting the coronavirus as an individual. Those firsthand experiences, Joe Biden, he doesn't have those."
Maybe he should have gotten the whole experience that the rest of America got then.
1) After being exposed, placed in mandatory quarantine. He'd be tested, but only once symptoms start. Then, he'd have to wait 7-10 days to get the result.
2) No world class medical care in your own residence. Instead, you are left to your own, if you have symptoms take Tylenol. Based on his symptoms so far, any attempts to go to the ER would result in them sending you home to take Tylenol.
3) No access to Regeneron, or at this juncture, access to Remdesivir.
Any claims to being better prepared to handle this because he had it, is like me claiming I know what it is to be so poor I never get to eat, because I once forgot lunch money and had to borrow it from a friend.

Once again, this narcissist's irresponsible message is almost the exact opposite of what he should have stated.
No, we shouldn't be "afraid" of COVID-19, as in shaking-in-our-boots, hiding-in-our-bunkers afraid. But we should have a healthy respect for how insidious the virus can be, even to perfectly healthy humans.
We also should respect that even if we survive -- as the vast majority of COVID-19 patients do -- there is a decent chance that we could be haunted for years by serious medical conditions stemming from COVID-19. The obese, high-cholesterol, 74-year-old Trump has no idea yet if he will be one so haunted.
And, obviously, we should respect the fact that just about nobody else in America has access to the kind of care that Trump had these last few days. The "really great drugs" he referenced -- not available to most of us.
And, of course, if he wins his fight to take Obamacare away from tens of millions of Americans -- something he is cruelly trying to do in the middle of a deadly global pandemic -- few will even have access to basic care, let alone all the treatments he had pumped into him.
He has learned nothing except how to politicize the coronavirus even more and how to use it to divide Americans even more than he already has.
"They are dying. That's true. It is what it is."

QuoteDr. Gounder also noted that dexamethasone can cause a sense of euphoria. Mr. Trump said in his tweet that he feels better than he has in 20 years.
"A lot of people will just feel really great. If you had any aches and pains, they will disappear. If you had a fever, that will disappear," she said. "People can become somewhat manic, grandiose."

Great...
Dexamethasone has many troubling side effects. Per the Mayo Clinic website:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/dexamethasone-oral-route/side-effects/drg-20075207
Notably, the "more common" side effects include the following:
aggression
agitation
anxietyblurred vision
decrease in the amount of urine
dizziness
fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
headache
irritability
mental depression
mood changesnervousness
noisy, rattling breathing
numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
pounding in the ears
swelling of the fingers, hands, feet, or lower legs
trouble thinking, speaking, or walking
troubled breathing at rest
weight gain
So yeah; just send him out to run the country.
I am thrilled he is doing better, and hope he makes a full recovery. But he has no business running a country right now with the medications he has taken. If you or I had received all those meds, we would be sent home, told to rest, and advised not to make any important decisions for a while.

Just not as much as your hero, who has twitted 100 times some days, mostly nonsensical or deranged or cruel or racist crap.
A couple thoughts on Trump's return to the WH. Watching his return, it is clear that although he is doing well, he is suffering from pneumonia.
He had to stop on more than one occasion on his walk back, to me it look like that was to catch his breath. Even standing on the balcony it was clear that he was working hard to breath.
Given that this is still very early in the COVID time course and they have used every treatment known to man on him, it is slightly concerning.
Hopefully he has indeed clinically improved and it isn't just "apparent" improvement due to the anti-inflammatory effects of Dex.
Next couple days are still very important.

I read a good chunk of them yesterday. And then noticed the change to his twitter profile that used to say attending physician at Walter Reed yesterday and then no longer says that today 🤷♂️
https://mobile.twitter.com/DrPhillipsMD
So the higher-ups got rid of him or told him not to tweet on behalf of WR because they didn't like what he said? Big shocker. At the time he said it, he was a staff physician at Walter Reed. In all likelihood, he still is.

A couple thoughts on Trump's return to the WH. Watching his return, it is clear that although he is doing well, he is suffering from pneumonia.

My wife worked oncology for a few years so she's got a lot of experience working with very sick people. She was shocked at how bad he looked and also mentioned that it looked like he may have pneumonia.
Well, the dentists here say their hero looks strong like ox, further proof that COVID-19 is just the common cold.

This is a textbook example of increased work of breathing. In addition to using normal respiratory muscles (the diaphragm & those between the ribs that expand the chest cavity), "accessory muscles" in his neck are kicking in to help draw a breath

Although I think it was incredibly reckless to be up there without a mask. I give him credit for trying to project a position of strength, despite the fact that he is obviously struggling, and in pain.
If he had just worn a mask, for the staged video. Not wearing a mask was reckless and puts peoples lives in danger.
I think trump has a tough guy complex so when he didn't serve in the military, join the police or fire dept, didn't box, didn't play football, rugby, hockey, lacrosse, etc. he still had this desperate desire to be viewed as a tough guy. So he's trying to show the world he's tougher than sickness and doesn't need a mask or hospital. And rational people know it's idiotic but his base eats that sh*t up
Some Trump apologists, like Pace, try to frame all of their guy's eff-ups as "messaging" errors.
But they aren't just messaging eff-ups. When it comes to COVID-19, they often are willful disregard for human life.
For example, in yet the latest example of how poorly he has handled the pandemic and how he is personally responsible for Americans getting sick, getting hospitalized and dying ...
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/05/health/contact-tracing-white-house.html
Despite almost daily disclosures of new coronavirus infections among President Trump's close associates, the White House is making little effort to investigate the scope and source of its outbreak.
The White House has decided not to trace the contacts of guests and staff members at the Rose Garden celebration 10 days ago for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, where at least eight people, including the president, may have become infected, according to a White House official familiar with the plans.
Instead, it has limited its efforts to notifying people who came in close contact with Mr. Trump in the two days before his Covid diagnosis Thursday evening. It has also cut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has the government's most extensive knowledge and resources for contact tracing, out of the process.
Contact tracing is an essential piece of any outbreak investigation and is a key to stopping the virus from spreading further, especially after a potential "super spreader" event where many people may have been infected.
I mean, it's borderline criminal negligence on his part. And he actually flaunts it.
Doesn't care that Herman Cain died at one of his super-spreader events. Doesn't care that he went to a fundraiser infected with a highly contagious virus that he himself called "deadly stuff." Doesn't care that he exposed Secret Service agents to it so he could have a photo op. Doesn't care that downplaying it yet again likely will result in more American deaths.
"They are dying. That's right. It is what it is. Trump 2020!"
Quite a campaign slogan.

Anyhow, it's been mentioned here. But either his condition is more advanced (i.e. - time-frame) than we've been told, or his doctors administered Dex WAY too early. In a 4-day period he received the Regeneron, and Remdesivir and Dexamethasone treatments. Assuming the NYT has it right, the first two should be administered early, and Dex later. Getting them all at the same time is....???? At least, as current science understands.

Yep. Plenty of Republicans have broken ranks, but none who have a vote.
Every once in a while, it seems like a rift is growing between Trump and Collins, Romney and/or Murkowski, but in the end they usually support him. And even when they disagree, it's typically in a very muted way.

Agreed, and I have said this before. The symptoms are classic for Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which usually is the result of traumatized parents (usually the mom) passing on many of her traits to her children. I suspect we rarely hear about Trump's mom because there are skeletons in that closet. Add a hard-driving dad who was always about win-win-win at any cost, and you could see how the groundwork was set for someone who always had to prove himself, but never felt any accomplishment was enough. It leads to self-aggrandizement and a need for control in public (in an attempt to counter the negative influences), but self-loathing and second-guessing in private (in response to negative outside influences). And someone who will never admit he was wrong, except to himself.
Unfortunately, the help he needs is lots of therapy...but patients with NPD are usually very resistant to treatment, because at its core, it requires them to admit they aren't any better than everybody else. Since people with NPD view this as a sort of existential threat, most never seek help, or quickly abandon treatment.
This is not a criticism of Trump. This is an opinion of what lives inside...from someone who has (1) enough of a medical background to understand; (2) a loooong family history of people with the condition; and (3) enough of an interest because of 1 and 2 to have done a LOT of reading on the causes and treatments for NPD.
I've studied Narcissism for several years. While there are many things that I have still yet to learn....in my personal experience two very common situations produce a narcissistic child. 1) Two narcissistic parents 2) One narcissistic parent and one submissive parent.
All narcissists go through some version of 1) Idealization 2) Devalue 3) Discard
Often times in my experience narcissists prefer empaths from a romantic standpoint. But some will partner up personally and professionally with another narcissist. They do tend to find one another for mutual support as needed at times.
While sometimes the oldest child and/ot only child can be seen perhaps more often, there can be one narcissistic child in a family of say, four kids, or two or three or four. Depends on the situation. Both men and women. It isn't gender specific.
Unfortunately the only known effective treatment is to ignore and avoid a narcissist as early as possible when identifying one. That of of course can be challenging if one is in your family or friend or professional circle. Then, sadly, it sometimes becomes more of a strategic cat and mouse game to avoid huge problems and challenges. Narcissists with a lot of power in their individual situations are dangerous. The key is to limit their power as much as possible in your individual situation.
One thing some people don't understand is that there are many different types kf narcissist. They are not all extroverted, bombastic, bully braggar types. Those are perhaps some of the more obvious ones.
Narcissists don't know they are narcissists.
There are also some people who do grow up in narcissistic situations, but do later outgrow this so to speak when reaching their 30's or so. For lifelong narcissists effective treatment for it/change/improvement is not common.
Much of the research out there are strategies dealing with one as opposed to treatments.
With someone like Trump, it is interesting that so few have taken the time to do deep dives about it after four years.
I agree with the previous two posts, but this is a COVID-19 thread, and I wasn't talking about what we already know about Trump being a narcissist and sociopath. I was specifically talking about what has been going on the last week or so.
Even for him, there is something amiss right now. His speech is halting, he looks gaunt and he is going on long, unintelligible rambles. Yes, he's still praising himself for doing nothing, still striking out at his political enemies, etc. But everything is worse now. After talking to a couple of the doctors my wife works with, I'm quite sure this is not part of the mental problems we all know he has but something physical triggered by the steroids, the other drugs, the COVID-19 itself or all of the above.
And it's damn scary that the most powerful man in the world is suffering from something that affects his mental state so obviously. He should not make any decisions more complicated than regular or extra crispy. He needs to take time to heal, and Pence should be sitting in right now.

Or is it monster communist?
Either way, I'm sure she's very bad.

Every additional factor affects a narcissist, i.e. the aging process, COVID-19, etc ..
Yep. Especially factors that hint at imperfection, losses, mortality and the like.
1. Aging
2. Polls suggesting he could lose in a landslide
3. Covid
4. Being proven wrong again and again (masks, hydroxychloroquine, "just the flu, open by Easter).
It all adds up.

Face it man, the dude is weak and frail. And, that's to say nothing of his cognitive ability. Ultimately, won't matta since Harris will take over as Biden resigns, takes the buy-out, and fades off into the sunset, taking one for the Dems, hey?

Hey.
All I know is that the frail dude practically sprinted to the podium at his Michigan event last week while your hero was getting $100K+ of taxpayer-funded medical care because he refused to follow the basic guidelines that he himself had put out in April.
But I don't want to argue about the corrupt, inept, impeached, infected POTUS, who has the deaths of 213K Americans on his hands.
All I said is that something obviously is wrong with him now. It's obvious. It's a subject concerning many, many Republicans.
He's the president. We need a healthy president and we don't have one. You should be very concerned, too, if you care about America.

From the guy who told Harris to stop politicizing human lives a few nights ago. Outstanding.
But hey, just wait until Sleepy Joe gets in the office. We ain't seen nothin yet.

Yeah, but can Biden drink water with one hand?
all i'm going to say, an honest person will admit that when our media stories are slanted 150 times more negative to one side over the other, regardless of who it is, it is not good for our country-period.

An honest person would admit that when the president of the United States downplays and lies about a potentially deadly virus for months and months and months, and then is done in by the very policies (or lack thereof) that contributed to 214K American deaths, and doesn't even care if he infects his own family and supporters, it is not good for our country-period.
Also not good for our country: that Americans would think it is a good idea to defend and enable this behavior, in part by blaming the media.

Someone flew this sky sign during the Mike Pence event. Pretty simple and to the point:
The frail dude has yet to tweet 'covfefe'.
And the Villages are full of nuts. A friend has a place there for the winter, and he often shares stuff from their local paper. It is always good for a laugh.

its so unfair. All I'm going to say is that 95% of the complaints about Trump are based on his own statements and posts, what we call admissions. As was his impeachment which we now see was based on pretty small potatoes compared to the rest of his conduct, or lack thereof.
Never forget that it was "slanted media stories" that got Trump elected in the first place.

Real doctors say otherwise.
The two brain aneurysms Biden suffered in 1988 were fully treated and he showed no signs of mental trouble as a result, said Dr. Neal Kassell, who performed the surgery on Biden three decades ago. Nor did Biden suffer any brain damage that could come back to haunt him in old age, Kassell said.https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/20/joe-biden-old-age-1468635

I don't blame them.
When you have decided to worship a man who has the blood of 215K Americans on his hands and who has overseen a terrible economic crash -- all because of his historic failure when dealing with the only crisis of his presidency -- you have to try to make up stuff about the other guy.
How 'bout we have them do a mile, winner take all?
And no - Trump does not get to use a golf cart, hermetically-sealed SUV or helicopter.

This has been reported for having nothing to do with Covid. It's whataboutism and will not yield any intellectual debate because the argument is whether a fetus is a life or not which you're trying to compare to those with friends, family life experiences, societal impact and value who have died of covid.
Ok. I'll just shut this down unless we hear that POTUS is (still?) having Covid complications.
