Marquette Twitter announced that new uniforms will debut at Madness.

I am simultaneously excited and nervous. I hope we keep some form of the side stripes, but new uniforms were definitely due
Now that alumni will no longer be able to b*tch about the long break since new uniforms, what will fill the void? Oh wait, they'll probably end up b*tching about the new uniforms.
Love the old-school letter sweaters.
I'm extremely pumped about this. I feel like we'll be seeing something with an old school touch (I'm hoping for the early 70s look with the number in a circle and the vertical stripe) and new school swag.
I hope they somehow incorporate a yellow sweater vest as a nod to us old farts.

Early 70s is not old school from where I sit.
For a point of reference, these are the new Michigan jerseys by Jumpman.

Sure it is. Just because you lived in an era doesn't mean it isn't old school. Even the 90s are old school now.

You're right. It's more like ancient history! ;D
Only the lucky ones get there. Good luck.
I hope there isn't a huge change from our current set-up. We have four (White, Navy, Baby Blue and Yellow) uniforms that we can use on any given game day. Our current branding is much better than our 90's/early 2000's, IMO.
With our new/current court design, my guess is that navy will be our default road uniforms, with yellow and baby blues as our rare alternates. We have traditionally been very consistent in rotating among the four, but perhaps they want to lower that down to three?
Will be interesting to see nevertheless.
I wouldn't expect much different from Michigan. I'm guessing it's unlikely that jumpman will make an exclusive design for Marquette

The cut will be the same, but they customize designs for all of their schools. Georgetown, Cal, MU, Carolina, and now Michigan all have very different uniforms.

+1. Hoping for something clean and a bit more simple, but still unique.
Hope we get the Oregon with a different uniform for every conference opponent.

OH MY LORD THEY ARE GONNA BE GREAT!!!
I'm replying to myself but I don't care cause I am 5 ginger Jamo's in.
But that first image shows a VERY faint yellow bumble bee striping with the Marquette.
I can't wait.
In theory, that lettering could be at the bottom of the jersey. ;)
I'm tingly.
I wonder if the other colors will follow suit. The stripes seem understated with the blue.
All aboard!!!

I see it. Looks like the darkest of blue uniforms with the slightest hint of yellow bumblebee stripes and some yellow stripes down the side. Would love it if that's what it is.
The old ones were awesome but getting old and busy. I like the simplicity if that's what these are.
I'm pumped, let's get this train rolling. Bring on the Bee

Maybe da hardwood look would be better, hey?
Love the bumblebee stripes on the side. Not sold on the "Marquette" font just yet.

I wonder if the Marquette font with the faint bumblebee striping is part of the warm up. I mean, the letters look sewn on. That's not happening on a jersey.
Looking forward to a new font actually, the current version on the white/gold/navy uniforms seems odd now, though I think it was a throwback to the late 70s unis.
My hope would be they use the older ones as inspiration for different versions/home and away. The white/gold unis could be with the circle numbers and the navy's could be the bumble bee stripes. Then the powder blues would be another version, maybe similar to the untucked layout with the name under the numbers.
Lots of possibilities and it looks like they are going to make these awesome either way. Can't wait to see the finished product....

I think that's the jersey. The holes on the top and the shot they are using seem very similar to what Michigan showed when they released their jerseys. This is just a zoomed in version.
I am expecting different colors will have different throwback styles. We never had other color bumblebees right? Plus, the faint yellow isn't to obvious with the blue. I think it would stand out more on other colors. I wonder if that was a compromise to get around the ban, if there still is one.

Kinda what I was thinking. Home whites are the vertical stripe with circle number.
Navy becomes dark navy with bumble bee. The championship blues are the "untucked" which are tucked but similar style... (yes. I know the untucked weren't championship blues. You sweater vests.)
1) I love you all.
2) I've had some whiskey tonight.

Yup, I was wrong on stripe color. Not seeing the numbering above "Marquette" though.
I think we get 1 style, not multiple for the multiple colors. And I hope that's how it is. I want something new for the next few years, and I can't see having multiple style jerseys for years other than this 100th year celebration.

And that is great. Have
one unique uniform set in several variations. To my knowledge -- and I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong -- even when Marquette was undeniably on the forefront of uniform design, they didn't mix a bunch of different uniform styles in a single season. For the last several years, Marquette has had an awesome -- and unique -- uniform set. I'm hoping they've done it again.
It would be "unique" for Marquette to wear blue one game, green the next, then purple, then mix and match. It would also be awful. I would prefer they be unique because they have a great new design. Not because they have no coherent design identity from one game to the next.

It's been a few years since the current uniforms were unique, in case you hadn't noticed it started with Cuse ripping off our design and then the last time that Jordan did the alterations every school seemed to have a similar version.

I absolutely love what MU has done for those years. That doesn't mean I want them all in the same year. Based on the video, I'm totally excited that the new uniforms are going to be a nod to the '71 uniforms (with, maybe, the 1977 name below the number thrown in). Fantastic. Let's rock those for a couple years in various color schemes. Then, let's move to the 1969 uniforms with the number in the circle. I'd love to see those resurrected.
I just feel that if we have all of them going in one season, it will seem exactly like unique "in the Oregon/Baylor crazy way."

I think that's a semantic argument. And it's quite possible I'm the one using words incorrectly. I view it as a branding/identity thing like Oregon/Baylor are wild and Penn State is plain. Probably just not expressing it right. I think it would just seem really odd to have completely different uniform sets/looks. I'd like us to be unique because we have a design unlike others -- not because we have a hodgepodge of designs.

Absolutely. But even though I think Oregon is a little crazy, I think they still have a coherent feel to their designs. Lots of wild colors and combos, but seemingly variations on a theme. I still feel like that is fundamentally different from wearing the '71 bumble bees one game, the '69 circles the next, the '81 camos next and the '77 bibs the next. One has a consistent design concept throughout. The other is just a hodgepodge of throw backs. YMMV

If they did it for this one year, where it's all about the history of our program, I'd be ok with it. I doubt it is though.

This may seem inconsistent with everything I've been saying, but I could totally get behind the idea of having a new, unique uniform set, but wearing some throwbacks for big games. Wear the new unis for the vast majority of the games, but have 3-4 special nights with throwback uniforms (e.g., '69, '71, '77). Just not as part of a "regular" rotation.
But, like you, I doubt it. I'm guessing they're going to have a specific uniform set. The video looks like it's inspired by the '71 uniform. And that's incredible.

If there really are 6 this year, I hope they reserved one for Bo to design.
If there are 6 different uniforms, Wojo will probably do the Duke thing where they have a specific uni for games on Sundays or something along those lines.
Maybe they will have something special versus Vandy and St. John's.

My guess is one primary design in four colors (white, gold, navy blue, valour blue) then maybe two "special" uniforms. Could be a military style uniform for the game in Annapolis, a throwback for Al's Night, or something special for either Wisconsin or the MLK marathon.

Since this year's poster design used the same color scheme as last year's court, I'd expect that they're keeping the same court color scheme this year. But you never know....we wouldn't want the new uniforms to clash with the floor.
If they are putting the season ticket holder names on the court, aren't there going to be court changes no matter what?
The court in the Al looks the same and matched the BC court last year. It seems the color blocks are becoming more of an entire athletic department brand. I think LAX and other sports made use of them.

Have potential but too much going on at the top with the Jordan, AL, flag and Big East logo. I'm sure they'll look better and better with a bunch of wins.
Baez!!!!!
As far as the top, I wouldn't mind if they moved the Jordan and Big East logos up higher. Make them the same size (shrink the Jordan logo a bit) and place them a full line higher than the flag. Would streamline that top. Still, I like them. Part of the beauty is that pretty much everything that is going on is meaningful to Marquette's history.
Classic.

Looking closely they are bumblebee unis made legal by fading lines across jersey!!
One of the tweets say we will have special N7 uniforms for the Western Carolina game. Based on some googling, N7 appears to be an organization that supports sports in Native American communities. This has to be tied to the old Warrior name and imagery, doesn't it?
Interesting cut/fit. As a fan, I like wearing a jersey with a long sleeve underneath to watch games. But I don't think you can really wear these fits in that casual manner. It would look very strange

Maybe I don't know enough about Nevada, New Mexico, or Oregon State history, but I don't recall them having any native mascot tradition (too lazy at midnight to Google). To me, just looks like a nod to Native American history and athletics from Nike. I think it's as likely because Cohen is on the team as anything to do with our Warrior history.
I like the number above the Marquette. I also love the nod to the bumblebees. Most importantly, I think the players love them and recruits will love them. Very unique design.
I'm glad they're unique... but they look like they were designed by a committee.

Tight fit not new, hey. I also think the new faux belt design on the shorts go back to this era with the buckle. Me likely the new design. I hated when players rolled the band on the shorts the past few seasons.

I also think anytime a new jersey comes out there is going to be negativity. It's new, it's not what we're used to. The players like them and that's a good thing! Other teams are going to talk about them at games because they are different.

Yup. Providence's new ones just have Nike, big east, and something in the middle a la our AL and it looks so much cleaner up top (not to mention you can match those logos with the MU color brand...which you can't with the flag).

Agreed. The flag forces the big East logo lower on the jersey which makes all three angle down to the left. They could have put the big East logo on the back by the neck like they did a few years ago to avoid that issue
Any idea when we will see the whites and/or any alternates?

Guessing this, I heard something about a gray uniform, which would make sense for this game. Maybe a camo pattern or something similar to what we had planned for the ill-fated aircraft carrier game with Ohio State. A primary gray with blue highlights could be awesome.

Here's my admittedly unpopular opinion.
A for concept.
C- for execution.
The American flag patch is an unnecessary add-on, and further clutters the already-cluttered top half. This is not helped by the fact that the cut on the armholes and neckholes is, as my wife put it, "feminine." It makes the jersey look like a wrestling singlet or a women's bathing suit. In short, it's less space to put more logos. If Marquette make the NCAA Tournament, there will be FIVE different logos/patches on the top half of the jersey.
The fact that there is no white or light blue trim around the numbers and wordmarks, and the font's reduction to a standard block makes the letters and numbers look like iron-ons or cheaply-made practice jerseys, not bespoke "innovation."
I would be all on-board with this redesign if they had retained the side panel stripes. Hell, you could even keep the sublimated bumblebee, and moved the name below the number and it still would've worked.
But this looks like it was designed by a committee, and the tricolour "belt buckle" just feels tacked on.
After the teaser video, this is a disappointing downgrade.

My response every time someone says they don't like the cut:

The new uni's are OK. They kind of look like practice jerseys and they're too cluttered at the top, but overall they're not bad. I'm going to reserve my final judgment until I see the rest of the set. I'm sure you'll all be on the edge of your seat for that ;)
My question: If the team really does have 6 uniforms, why not spread out the homage to past uni's across the set (i.e. bumblebee set, '03 set, beltbuckle set, etc) as opposed to cluttering them up? I guess it's possible that they did that.

I was thinking the same thing, particularly with the flag and the "belt buckle". These would have been cleaner without those details.
Could the Big East logo have been on the back? We've done that in the past. That could have freed up some space.
I'm still a big fan of them. Definitely unique. The lighter uniforms will be interesting with the horizontal stripes.

My guess (hope) is that the white uniforms get baby blue stripes and lettering, the gold is the reverse of the navy ones, and the baby blue come with gold stripes and lettering.
I think people are overplaying how "busy" the front looks. It looks fine. Yeah the flag wasn't necessary, but it works.

Obviously it was put back on to remember 9/11 and does serve a purpose and was not just put there for no reason as many have suggested.

Ok, was 9/11 in Milwaukee? Because even St John's, Fordham, Columbia, LIU Brooklyn, Manhatten, St Francis and Wagner who are all actually in the city don't have the patch.
How many MU alumni died in this horrible tragedy? (I honestly don't know, what this ever researched?)
I'd stake my life that the reason it was put there is because they needed an element from a very basic jersey that was in the FF and they figured it was something simple enough that nobody would get upset about rather than an actual 9/11 remembrance 15 years later.

Well the "AL" patch was around in 2003 as well and is referenced on the graphic as such.
I don't mind the flag. I just mind the idea that if you don't have one, it means we somehow "forgot" 9/11 or even minimized its impact on our country. It's just a basketball jersey.

Agreed.
I voted 4 stars. I'd give it 5 stars if they dropped the belt (see the poster).

I think (ok, hope) the belt will look better with the other uniform colors. Definitely the one element that to me looks like it was just tacked on.
I can't wait to see the other three colors. Love the navy ones! I heard the four different colored versions were all supposed to be unveiled at Madness but Nike didn't deliver them in time. These will look really cool on the court.

To be honest, I did not even notice the belt when I saw the uniforms in person last Friday. It's not a big deal. It's not like they are championship wrestlers or something.

I had a similar experience with all the elements at the top (although I haven't seen them in person). I guess that when I look at the uniforms, my mind kind of filters out that stuff -- kind of how I don't even notice ads on webpages (when I'm not using a blocker). When I actively look at it, I'd agree that it's a little cluttered and would be more aesthetically pleasing to me if the flag were moved off the front of the jersey (or eliminated completely) and the Big East/Jumpman were moved up a little (similar to the placement on the 2015 jersey). But unless I'm specifically looking at those elements, I don't really notice them.
I doubt they would do it this way, but I think it would have been cool to see a different design for each color. The navy could be the bumblebees, the light blue could be similar to what we just had, the whites could have the circle around the numbers and the yellow could have some other design cue from our past (camo sides?). I would have been down with that idea.

Maybe that's the complaint, it should be more like a wrestling championship belt.

Again, you're not the one who actually has to play basketball in them...

reading the posts in this thread illustrates how being a sweatervest extends well beyond someone that wears a particular article of clothing
Any scoop on tomorrow night's N7 unis? Should we just expect a turquoise set of what we've already seen?

Wish the numbers and piping were yellow instead of navy.

That would look sweet
That's what the normal baby blues look like.

I'd like it if the piping were gold and navy. Replace the teal part of the piping with gold. That'd be really nice, nice enough to adopt as a regular uniform choice.

I am not going to be happy until they break out a version of the championship game uniforms - white jerseys and baby blue shorts.
They wore gold shorts in the championship game.

I stand corrected. I just like the different color top and bottom. Very few (if any) teams do that any more.
The turquoise on turquoise is purposeful.
Wishing there were other colors in certain areas is a pointless concern when honoring the Natives.

I'm not necessarily saying for tonight. I just really like the color. It pops really well, and I feel would be a fresher, more eye-catching look than our typical baby blues. I wouldn't be against Marquette using something with a richer color like this one in the future.

I don't know if you are in the minority, but if you feel this way you must not really not like what MU has done since Al started making a statement with the uni's.
I personally like shaking it up while still throwing a nod to our history. Makes us unique but not in the Oregon/Baylor crazy way.

Picked up the 100th anniversary (update of this) history of MU uniforms poster yesterday at the bookstore - best $5 I have spent in a while, and I'm sure it is the least I have ever spent at the bookstore. Now I'll probably spend $100 having it framed.
Like goin' deep sea fishin' and snaggin' dat barracuda, hey?
