Great field of teams.  Is a free trip to Maui enough of a reason for HE to stick around for a 2nd year?

Won't this be the second year in a row that MU will be in the same field as Michigan?

I'd much rather have ND in South Bend or in Milwaukee than Maui.  It would be a great draw.

Better than nothing, however.

If this tournament was over Xmas instead of T-Day week, I'd go for sure. But I won't only do a few days in Hawaii and I can't get away for more than that over T-Day week. So I guess I'll be watching on TV.

When the Maui tourney was first mentioned awhile ago my wife immediately said: "We should go to that!"  We're planning on going - love Hawaii!

Fun Hawaiian fact: Hawaiians love coming to Las Vegas so much that many of them refer to it as the "ninth island".

You can catch the shuttle from The California to the airport with all the Hawaiians that are going home!

Guilty as charged.

Maui is an absolute blast... frankly, it's not just the field that has made this the premier holiday tournament, it's the entire event.  KemperLesnik does a great job of getting the entire community behind the event, and everything runs like a well-oiled machine.  With the exception of the civic center (to which there is a shuttle if you purchase the travel package*), everything is walkable... shopping, restaurants, beach, etc.  If you want to go into "downtown" Lahaina, it's a quick taxi ride (or a bit longer walk) away.  Although small, the HI alumni club also does a good job of putting on a couple cocktail hours.

* Ah yes, the travel package.  If you're like me and you prefer to hack your travel arrangements, you can save some serious dough by foregoing the package that Anthony Travel offers and piecing it together a la carte; however, if you happen to be a bona fide sweater vest who prefers to have everything planned out to the minute and know exactly where you have to be several days before you have to be there, the package will take care of everything for you (except airfare).

There's nothing like joining your fellow haole alums on the island to take in some hoops, hula, and ahi.

Used to be that anyone with Hi driver's license could get free flight to Vegas.
When in Maui don't miss the Lahaina Grill for dinner. Been know to go three times in one week.

I interviewed for a job at Kemper Sports a couple of years ago.  It definitely looked like doing their accounting wasn't nearly as fun as attending their events.

I'd really love to go to one of these. Jobs just don't give enough time off around Thanksgiving.

Oh for the days when this was a Christmastime event. (Chaminade pulled off the famed win over Virginia on Dec. 23, 1982.)

I also spent last week in Maui.  Was bummed that it was an off year for Marquette.  I will need to buildup the frequent flyer miles again prior to 2017.

2 full years before the 1st Maui Invitational (although this game was the impetus to start the event)

13 months away...
Would love to be in Maui for this. Heck, never been to Hawaii, so going in general would be great.
When do packages come out for 2017? Is it better to buy a package through MU or the invitational? Or, better off to book travel/lodging separately? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

MU doesn't sell a package.  It's all handled through Anthony Travel (official sponsor/travel agent).  The package is great if you want peace of mind, but a la carte can save you hundreds.  Depends on your departure date, length of stay, transportation needs, desire to explore the island vs. staying in one place, etc.  You might be able to share a sleeping bag with JayBee if you want to go on the cheap.

Packages are the only way to buy tickets before they go on sale to the public, but tickets have never (to my knowledge) sold out, so the risk of booking direct and being shut out in tix is virtually nil.  I don't know that the team hotel is known yet.

Unfortunately, nothing can be booked direct until 11-12 months out. Packages usually don't show up until spring. Tickets don't go on sale until late Aug/early Sep.

Ya, look into it next spring.  MU ticket office/travel specialist has no knowledge or info on this at the present time.

Sorry for the random bump. Just found out that my folks, who have a 1 week time share in Laha-ina (damn autocorrect), are willing to take their trip over Thanksgiving next year and let me tag along.  I mentioned something in passing a few weeks ago thinking they'd laugh it off (they did at the time), but they just told me they are cool with going that week.

Does anyone know how the ticket situation works for Maui?  I heard on the TV this year while watching some of the tournament that the tickets are sold per game since the gym is so small.  How does that work when projecting out wins and losses? Maybe best to just buy a ticket to all the games, but while in Maui probably would only want to go to MU games and perhaps the championship, and enjoy the rest of the time sippin' mai tais by the beach.

I know MU was just there a few years ago, so if anyone who went is willing to give me the rundown, it'd be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
