He was good, but nobody deserved it over Jeremy Strong. I'd slot him after Odenkirk but ahead of Bateman.*I really would have like to see Rhea Seahorn win for supporting actress, but honestly I view Julia Garner's performance in the same light as Jeremy Strong's -- nobody deserved the Emmy over Garner.*I see Bateman wasn't nominated. Makes sense (to me, at least). In light of the actual nominees, I would put Lee Jung-jae dead last.
Bateman was a nominee in actor for best drama category. He and Laura Linney have been nominated for many years and each has not won. Bateman has won previously for best directing an Ozark episode. I was hoping either would win for their last season, but the Emmys have turned truly political/social over past years. Has to be a first_______ and a first_____, otherwise the protests start. No first_____ was going to beat Julia Garner though. I will miss the Ozark show.
I can't believe I haven't mentioned it yet, but my favorite show currently on TV right now may be Industry on HBOMax.Season 1 was entertaining, but I think a portion of that was just a factor of my Anglophile/London loving personality enjoying another slickly shot show in London, combined with my interest in financial markets. Add a sprinkle of debauchery and substance abuse and a phenomenal soundtrack, and it was a fun little watch.Well Season 2 stripped away a lot of the surface fun and became an absolutely new animal in terms of writing, emotion, and much heavier subject matter. Jay Duplass' character is fantastically written and compelling and I find myself eagerly anticipating each week's episode like I did with Succession. I don't think its as good as Succession, but its marvelous. There are some excellent performances by otherwise unknown young British actors/actresses.
So what you're saying is that it's political unless someone is more deserving?
Too lazy to scroll back but has anyone seen “City on a Hill” on SHO? Kevin Bacon plays an ethically challenged FBI agent in the 1990s Boston. Kind of stumbled on it but find it very enjoyable.
Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys. They're not important.
I'll check it out next - just finishing Peaky Blinders. An outstanding show (as you said when you recommended it). A couple quick comments:1. Best Soundtrack ever for a TV show. And it's not even close.2. The acting was outstanding across the board, but Murphy and McCrory were especially outstanding. Even as you could see the physical effects of McCrory's cancer, her acting chops never diminished.3. The show brought to mind two other shows that I liked a lot. Deadwood, in feel and tone - and Sons of Anarchy (another great soundtrack) in the story line and the inevitability of disaster ahead.
To us. And to society as a whole. Extremely important to those in the industry.
TAMUI do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
Got Apple TV free for two months. I'm obviously starting with Ted Lasso. Besides that, what shows should I hit in the next two months?
Doing a Sopranos rewatch for the first since it aired originally. It truly is the greatest show ever, with apologies to The Wire.
