First, AI sucks: "AI Overview: For the 2026 season, the Division I men's basketball transfer portal opens on Monday, April 7, 2026"

I'm not sure I actually believe the #s thrown out by folks here, but if so...kids are getting PAID this year.  I also don't expect much delay on announcements once the window opens, obviously talks have been happening.

100 transfers, $2M each, a $200M day?

Nukem2

Gonna be a busy first week undoubtedly not just the first day. 4/7 is just a placeholder date.

I have to believe (given...agents) 30% of transfers know where they are going.

Apparently five guys in college basketball made 2 mill or more last year.  That's going to increase to 100 players????

tower912

I think the top talent gets paid.  I think there will be some reaches on low and mid major bigs, seeing this year's success with agile bigs, and hoping to catch lightning.  I think there will be some players who overestimate their open market value.

Parallel to the first few days of NFL free agency.  Overpaying for centers.
(For the humorless among you, that was a play on the word 'center', as there were a number of NFL centers who got paid, and I think there will be a number of mid major centers who get paid)

I agree.  But, I mean, apparently MU alone is supposed to support ~$6-9M of it!

Certainly hope we're not reaching on the center position. The staff has shown they're pretty terrible at it.

Disagree.  If $s are real, we need someone with reach!

I would suggest that about 50% already had a deal done elsewhere when they officially entered the portal. Shaka put everyone on notice during halftime of a game in February, which was a clear indicator to agents that opportunity exists at MU. Hopefully, MU has the 3 vacancies filled by Friday.

That's funny given a few of the returnees...

MU must get dominant/ultra/elite talent and multidimensional ballers.  I don't know what we will need to spend, but this has to be done and all options must be on the table.

Brewers budget.   Mid-pack.  Spending to keep their own.

I hope not. :(

If Shaka only keeps the good ones, and brings in a couple bench guys...woof

tower912

Three spots to fill.  I am working under the assumption of low major guard, mid major guard, mid major big.  Hopefully all seniors, so that recruiting and retention can get back on schedule.

Money doesn't necessarily equate to success.  Indiana spent a lot a got bupkis.  We need to identify the right pieces to compliment our young guns.  There's talent out there, usurp it.  Then we can negotiate a fair price.  :)

Marquette will be around a top 40 NIL spender in the country and will spend the money necessary to improve the roster via talent outside of the program.

The brewers are always in the lower third of MLB.

And it's a different sport...

Good low major guard,
Good mid major guard
Exceptional mid major big

and we agree :)

Nah, a large portion of transfers have already been in talks with the schools and knew where they were going for weeks.
