The player to be named later in the Mike Deane signing.

Thought I'd take a peek at the Siena hoops message board to see if they were excited about hiring Nevada Smith. Funnily enough, I found a link to this very thread, as it looks like some are trying to gauge their excitement based on how disappointed we are to lose Smith.

One Siena poster said, "Doesn't seem like they are too upset." 😂

I like Nevada.   I like his offensive schemes.   I am not heartbroken he left, as this is the nature of the business.  He did a lot of good work at MU and now has been rewarded with an opportunity at a big chair.

Thank you, congratulations, and good luck.

Will be interesting to see how he runs a program. He was hesitant to move into an assistant coaching role because he hated recruiting. Wish him well

Wait--Siena hoops has a message board???
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Any Siena fan reading this, thanks for beating Ohio State that one time and hope you enjoyed the Jim Secretarski years

I went to high school with Jim. First time I ever heard of Siena was when he committed there. Was a hell of a football player too.

Miami Heat organization, Spoelstra especially, saying nice things for Smith. Obviously they liked him during his time as their g-league team HC.

I'd bet on guys like Pat Riley, Spoelstra and Shaka over most.

My HS has sent three hoops players to the D1 level, one was on the Mike Deane-coached team that knocked off Stanford in the first round of the tourney after winning their conference tournament in front of an empty arena due to a measles outbreak. We were all excited seeing Deane come to our HS gym for games, and it was probably the first time anyone in my town had heard of Siena College (Deane recruited the guy's brother to Michigan State).

I forgot about that Siena moment, beating Stanford as a 14-seed.

The Brown brothers?

Not a slur.  A basketball playing family from a small town in Michigan who went on to play college basketball.   One at MSU, one at Siena, one at Hope.

Happy for the guy! Wondering if we'll start to see mid-range jumpers more regularly. Only Nigel started taking them towards the end of this season. Prior to that, there was a "break glass in case of emergency" play for Joplin that was surprisingly efficient.

It would be awesome to see Siena become a regular feature in the tournament under Nevada.

Do we schedule Siena????

three D1 hoops players from a rural town of 6500 is pretty good, IMO.

Yes. Mark went to MSU, then WMU. Mark went to Siena, and the youngest, Matt, played at Hope (D3). The other D1 guy was Tony Bowne, who went to Central. He ended up at the HS when he was adopted by his mom's family when she couldn't care for him anymore.
