Quote from: BM1090 on May 07, 2026, 10:21:10 AMJop was a top 100 player from Wisconsin. NM is a top transfer from the Milwaukee area.

It's not like Wisconsin is getting these players either. Some kids just want to leave the state.

We may be at the point where I have to solve this problem. :)

That sucks but shouldn't be a problem for Marquette.

lol. if that was the case the roster would be a little different.

Probably so.

It will be interesting to see if any programs employ "tanking". That is to "sit out" a year or two to accumulate resource$ and then go "all in" for a year.

He's also making that up.

exactly. MU is not swimming in cash with billionaire donors who can step up every year and write an eight-figure check like Indiana has with Mark Cuban and a few others.

We need more people buying RVs, going to bed bath & beyond, or making business decision to get an enterprise account with SPS.

I'm sure there's others but that seems like a good starting point.

I hope you can, Muggsy. Some serious HS talent from Wisconsin going out-state. I'm curious what kind of relationship with state HS coaches Shaka and staff have? I guess I don't necessarily care where we get players from...but would be nice to occasionally keep a local, nationally touted star home.

I seriously don't get the obsession some of the Wisconsin posters have with arbitrary state boundaries framing them as "local". Henry for example was from an area almost 5hrs away from Milwaukee, about the same distance Indianapolis is. Just because a kid is from "Wisconsin" doesn't make him local. If a kid was from Hudson is he a "local kid" when he's technically from a suburb of Twin Cities? If a kid was from Kenosha they may have grown up with parents using Chicago commuter rail for work and raised cubs or even bears fans.

It's provides an opportunity for some around here to rip on Shake and the MU program....that's all. #sad

I doubt it. Payments to players likely go higher every year unless things change. If you don't have enough now, you will need to raise even more in the future.

AL was probably the best coach to recruit and get local talent for Marquette: i.e. for AL New York was local talent.

Tbe bottom line is we need to elevate our overall talent.

The Players Era tournament in Vegas is expanding to 24 teams. Creighton and St. John's will represent the Big East in this year's event.

I'd love to see Marquette play in it in 2027.

Isn't the Chicago metro area more "local" to Marquette than much of Wisconsin is?

as I said, in-state. JSOnline will cover prep teams of WI regardless of where in the state the teams are located, right on thru to the state tournament. The last prominent WI high school guys to sign w/MU straight out of HS were who, the Hauser's? Want to keep it Milwaukee metro...lots of talent here, going elsewhere. Hence my question on Shaka's outreach to HS coaches in the area, or statewide. And as I also said, talent from anywhere is absolutely fine by me. But living here and being aware of some of the highly touted local preps, it would be cool to occasionally keep one here.
