"Kirk was asked by a (somewhat scornful) college student: "Why are you here?" Kirk responded: "OK, I've been asked that question a lot. First of all, the question should not even have to be asked. But when people stop talking, really bad stuff starts. When marriages stop talking, divorce happens. When civilizations stop talking, civil war ensues. When you stop having a human connection with someone you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group. . . . What we as a culture have to get back to is being able to have a reasonable disagreement, where violence is not an option."

"politicians are saying all the usual things now—decrying political violence, sending out prayers. Just as they did after the first assassination attempt against Donald Trump. And the second one. And the shooting of Steve Scalise. And of Gabby Giffords. And the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband. And the attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh's life. And the slaying of a Minnesota state legislator and her husband. And the murder of two staffers of the Israel Embassy. And the arson attacks against the Pennsylvania governor's mansion and the New Mexico Republican Party headquarters."

"The good behavior lasts a day or a week. This editorial page has frequently emphasized the importance of civil and societal guardrails. Those are built from the top. A nation that sees its leaders respectfully debate each other's ideas, invite opposing views, and seek to persuade will rightly assume that to be the correct way to hash out political disagreements. A nation that sees its leaders vilify opponents, blame individuals (rather than their policies) for problems, and spew rage and tantrums will understandably assume that it's acceptable to treat anyone who disagrees with them with contempt."

Worse, a nation that hears its leaders darkly warn on a daily basis that their political opponents are hell-bent on imposing tyranny is more liable to justify any action in response. And a media that has made a business model out of amplifying the showboats, mouth-offs and provocateurs—rather than giving attention to serious players—only eggs it all on."

Excerpt from Kimberley A Strassel editorial WSJ

You're all now thinking, 'see she's talking about Trump taking the temperature up three notches every time he opens his mouth'.  However...

"Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic," Joseph Robinette Biden

Think your side is with the angels?  Think again.

When everything is existential, nothing is debatable.

You are welcome to disagree with Kirk's views on the 2nd amendment, abortion, trans rights, and any other idea out there, but his views don't make him a nazi, fascist who needs or deserves to be silenced.  Speech IS NOT violence. The only acceptable solution to speech you don't like is more speech.

Either that or go back to Blue Sky where everyone agrees with you...

I don't think there is a single person here who thinks that Democrats, or whatever you want to call the other "side," are blameless.

"MLK was awful," Kirk said. "He's not a good person. He said one good thing he actually didn't believe."

"Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that's a fact. It's happening more and more."

" Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge"

"The great replacement strategy, which is well under way every single day in our southern border, is a strategy to replace white rural America with something different."

" There is no separation of church and state. It's a fabrication, it's a fiction, it's not in the constitution. It's made up by secular humanists."

He was an outrage-stoking, race-baiting, white nationalist-flirting blowhard who should not have met a tragic end like this and I hope his loved ones get the love and support they need to heal.

But for F***s sake spare me the martyrdom

I will also point out, likley in vain, that a bunch of people are jumping to conclusions about the motivations of the alleged assailant even though we have no idea who he is!!

The WSJ reporting a leaked memo saying the bullets had Antifa and trans ideologies on them and then the New York times refuting that a couple hours later is about as good as a representation of current affairs as any

How do you put "trans ideologies" on a bullet?

Quote from: The Sultan on September 10, 2025, 05:11:33 PMCharlie Kirk heavily contributed to an environment of political violence that resulted in the deaths of multiple people. And earned a lot of money in the process.

So while I'm sorry that his children will grow up without their father, he helped to stoke the fires that ultimately consumed him.

Typical JB. First is wrong about implying something is inconsistent when it isn't. Second calls them names - likely to cover up the inadequacies above.

Higgins said that any social media accounts from people who "ran their mouths with their smartass hatred, celebrating the heinous murder of that beautiful young man" must come down.
The Louisiana Republican also demanded that any users who posted those "belittling" posts be "banned from ALL PLATFORMS FOREVER."

But Higgins wasn't finished.
"I'm also going after their business licenses and permitting, their businesses will be blacklisted aggressively, they should be kicked from every school, and their drivers licenses should be revoked. I'm basically going to cancel with extreme prejudice these evil, sick animals who celebrated Charlie Kirk's assassination," he wrote.

Does that include all of the likes on X that Elon has hidden? Cuz if so I have some work to do

Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or freedom of the press....

A reminder that we are a constitutional republic.  At least on paper.

They will just file baseless lawsuits or threaten legislation until the tech companies give in like they've done to colleges, media, law firms, etc.

Nice tech platform you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it.

9/10 will soon be a national holiday. 9/11? Don't waste time on unimportant stuff like that. Amazing the absolute deification of a hyper partisan political hack and grifter.

Such was the regard for Kirk within the White House that Vice President JD Vance dropped plans to attend the 9/11 memorial in New York on Thursday so he could instead fly to Utah to be with Kirk's family and fly his remains home to Arizona on Air Force 2.

Trump also paid tribute to Kirk during a speech at the Pentagon, announcing that the 31-year-old father would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
