Quote from: Norm on April 13, 2026, 12:20:30 PMIf this offseason basketball portal season plays out like the football one did, getting the first visit is the very important, as many took their first trip and cancelled the others after committing. It's the reverse of freshman recruiting where you want to get the last visit.

Was thinking the same thing.

Is this the same site that @Jay Bee shared a post from the owner, saying the numbers were way off compared to what they expected?

Also if this site is accurate, Tarris Reed makes 400k less then the entire Marquette team.

So, (legit question), how does this work for foreign players now (This would apply to Fru too...I think)?  I still don't think they can get paid for "work", or even NIL (or revenue share) in the US without a work visa.

I think Ben went back home last summer to "run" a basketball camp...is that when they can get paid?  Can a foreign foreign entity pay for their work in their home country?

So many questions.

I think it is very easy to pay a player NIL in their home country.

They did something with him in the Bahamas as well.

Man I hope Fru joins, because I don't love any of the other big options.

It's risky, but the answer is royalties. You hit on it - getting paid for 'work' e.g., actions is an issue. So, some schools have structured deals as royalty arrangements ... kid allows licensing/usage of his NIL.. in exchange for rev share dollars from the school... and call it passive income.

Lotsa naughty stuff going on, but that's a play for foreign guys to get big $$ as of now.

The Sultan

Students on an F-1 visa can be employed on-campus by the school. Since student-athletes can now be paid directly by the instituion, I wonder if "NIL" payments are now allowed for international athletes.

Also, an Arizona State women's basketball player applied for, and was denied a visa which allows for an athlete to earn money temporarily in the United States. This denial was overturned by the court, and I believe is still pending.

FWIW, The Athletic ranks Fru #38 among its top 50 portal players. Their synopsis ("wildly efficient as a finisher" ought to be music to our ears):

Ht: 6-11 Wt: 245

Fru was a terrific young player in Germany before coming stateside. He blocked 1.4 blocks in 22 minutes per night and was wildly efficient as a finisher. Fru shot 75.3 percent at the rim while on a heavy dose of rim runs out of ball screens. He's a good screener who can slip to the rim and create real downhill force. His team in Germany, Braunschweig, did use him as a mismatch post threat. But even there, he was largely an efficient rim runner. Defensively, Fru can at least competently protect the rim even if it isn't an outright strength of his game.

Fru needs to find an environment that plays in a ton of ball-screen actions and allows him to get downhill to the rim. The good news for him is that size is very difficult to find in the transfer portal, and he has it. He'll get a large amount of money to be a starting center for someone at the power conference level next season, with a ceiling as being a borderline all-conference player if he can find the right fit.

Sounds like a great fit for Marquette's system.

Better Matt Heldt.

Didn't miss in his last three games. He might have only shot 6 times in those three games, but he didn't miss!

Also has a stud 50% 3 point shooting. On 8 shots.

If I were an agent, I'd exclusively send highlights of my player against SC State.

How confident are you with regards to Fru?

I'm 100% on Team Fru.

Hopefully we get some excellent news, and soon.

I personally have no inside connections.  However, IG follows correlate to a commitment 69.69% of the time so I will continue to post Ron Paul until I am correct.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

He played for Braunschweig? Man, I see a healthy NIL opportunity in his future if he commits.

It's absolutely an upgrade over any center we've had since Oso. Pair him with bully-ball Royce and Sheek's versatility. I hope Josh can bulk up to add some muscle. I like that frontcourt quite a bit on paper.

I hope Tylen Riley signs with us this coming weekend, but that trip to Maryland has me worried...

I have no idea how much this actually means to German players, but they'd feel a hell of a lot more at home in Milwaukee than anywhere else.

Markusquette

Riley seems like a good combo guard who can play backup point. Fru/Riley would be an excellent start. Maybe add Minessale, Evans or another wing

Whew! You posted just in time. I expected another Tower post anytime about how we really, really, really need a guard. Thanks for sparing us.

We've been here before with recruits. Wouldn't take instagram follows as anything more than confirmation of interest.
