I mean, Shaka literally signed a top-80 recruit who had an agent.

And I do not even know who "reported" this supposed aversion to dealing with players who had agents ... other than Scoopers who kept repeating it.

A version of this was reported by one agent who was as JayBee described it, a dickhead. It was repeated and treated as gospel by some. Despite multiple players on our roster having agents.

I won't deal with this agent and i won't deal with any agents are two very different things.

But it was. So you, VBMG, and Wades could maybe take a step back and recognize, 'hey, Shaka effed up and he was wrong. That's why we had the worst season in 35 years. He's now trying to fix it and that's a good a thing. The people criticizing him for his way of doing things weren't all wrong'.

I can't speak for VBMG and wades, but I advocated for us to bring in transfers after each of the last three seasons.

I mostly thought the help was more needed on the fringes - in other words, role players such as a defense-minded 5 to share time with Gold, a combo guard who could help at PG, and a shooter off the bench. I was generally pleased with the results of Shaka's first four seasons, thanks mostly to the way numerous players improved under his coaching staff.

However, when it became obvious that it was no longer working and that we needed to hit the portal for starter-level players, I expressed that, too.

I just didn't say it 83,441 times. And although Shaka deserved to be criticized for this past season, I chose not to rip him several times a day as some others have done. He earned my respect with his overall body of work, and he also earned the chance to make things right.

Like you and other Scoopers, I am glad he has realized that today's coaches need to use all the talent-acquisition methods out there. I wish he had realized it sooner, but I'm happy that at least he has realized it now.

And I happen to believe that our alma mater's basketball program has a bright future.

As for the agent thing, I simply never saw proof, so I didn't give it credence.

It seems to me most Scoopers are on the same page.  Furious about how horrific our season was, but having the belief Shaka will turn this around.  And he absolutely deserves the opportunity for redemption.  Now, having said that, if 2026-27 is another debacle?  Unleashing extreme wrath will move to higher percentages in the threads.

Going against the grain how? His All American was a transfer. The rest of the best players on the roster were transfers or guys he didn't recruit.

He had to take transfers to field a team. He did so and from then it was retention and development.

He brought Jop with, already had a relationship with Oso, and did in fact recruit Kam and Stevie to stay.

And your "guarantee" is meaningless. You actually have no clue how the change in approach came to be.

It's time for folks who point out he 'had to' make up his first teams to recognize that he built his best teams this way. It's not just a coincidence that the transfer market and Wojo's recruits just randomly so happen to make up his best teams. Once it was all his recruits the team was abysmal.

Maybe there's one slightly splashy signing, but I bet there will be "diamond in the rough" pickups that (hopefully) surprise everyone next season.

They mention that he is a priority for Kentucky......the front runner part may be true but seemed like speculation aimed at their audience since they quoted a guy from the Kentucky site.

Agreed. I'd love an absolutely unbelievable signing...but I don't necessarily recall anyone thinking that Kolek or OMax were two of the most coveted players. It's more important to be right than to make a splash.

Kolek was A10 ROTY and definitely highly sought after, though I agree that neither him nor Omax were necessarily top 20 available transfers at the time.

The real difference is neither Kolek nor Omax were targeted when we were in desperate need of immediate impact talent. And neither of them lit up the league in their first seasons here. We are in the unfortunate position of needing at least two guys that are instant difference makers.

Given the dollar amounts mentioned on this site and the state of our roster, I expect to at the very least be in contention for the top players on the market. How that shakes out remains to be seen.
