Owens, Parham, and Hamilton look like a solid class. Nice to see them get minutes. I guess I'm higher on Lowery than some. I think he's the best defender off the bench. Hard to get a great read in this game but Owens was impressive. That jump stop pass to Hamilton was a coach's dream.

5. We have seen enough of Jop to know who he is. Its not a slump....its a streak. Hes up and the hes down. He might go 0-10 or he may go 6/8 from deep. He will have bad games in the future...maybe back to back....then he will turn around.

Yep on 5

Except now he's the best rebounder on the team and a plus interior defender.

He's also the second leading scorer on the team.

A few weeks ago many of us, maybe including I?, were ready to throw the towel in on him.

He's massive to this team, and because of the up and down that you mentioned he's going to be the biggest X factor all season long.

Gonna have to live by the Jop and die by the Jop. Hopefully Marquette can overcome a bad Jop offensive night when it matters most, because for the first time in 4 years they will NEED him out there for the other parts of his game, even if he struggles offensively

Half of scoop was calling for Joplin to come off the bench two games into the season. The guy is looking like a Second Team All-Big East candidate.

Scoopes, like fans everywhere, can overreact and be prisoners of the moment.   Stay away from the game threads while they are happening.  Go back and read them later for the comedy.

They looked fine overall in this game, but 9 assists.  Woof.

Marquette didn't have a triple double as a team.
Have some patience, FFS.

Exactly! I have been doing that for years. I'm surprised that some of the posters do not erase their posts and sub NM, but then again....they have probably been replied to already  ;D

I see 14 in a couple box scores.

Regardless, I wouldn't too much about it. They were getting the shots they wanted off the dribble.

I think everyone saw why those of us who saw the summer open scrimmage were excited about Owens' potential.

Even putting aside the 3 straight 3's his athleticism and confidence really stand out for me. He will have freshman moments like he did last night, but his upside as he gains experience and strength are obvious.

It's too bad that he missed so much practice time and the early buy games because he would be even further along now. But he is forcing his way into being one of the first options off the bench.

I had the pleasure of chatting with him briefly at the summer block party and he seems like a prefect fit for the MU culture.

The Jumbotron at the Fiserv said 9.  I assume that is the official one.

And I am not worried about it at all.  But I am guessing Shaka didn't like it. He mentioned in the postgame with Homer how impressed he was that Stonehill had 22 on 24 field goals.

Herman Cain

Was impressed with some of the plays Stonehill made. That should provided some good tape for the Team to learn from.

Bench getting extended minutes was helpful. Hopefully , MU will rinse and repeat against Western Carolina and get Bench some more run.

Again when you shoot over 60% and score 90+ points, I don't think lack of assists are that big of a deal. If they weren't getting quality looks I would understand, but you'd be asking them to pass out of good shots for the sake of an assist. That doesn't make much sense.

Shaka said something similar on TV and it was more of a compliment to Stonehill and how Marquette had trouble defending their motion.

The lack of assists and the total defensive meltdown in general last night has alarm bells going off.

Yeah, once it becomes clear that you can easily "out athlete" the other team there's less running the offense and more one on one play. No worries, we got a whole bunch of easy shots.

The Sultan

And 14 is the assist total listed on the Marquette site. Safe to say that's official.

Yeah the 14 assists is no concern at all.

It was that low because we didnt have to sit and wait for catch and shoot 3s off multiple passes

Jop and Kam could literally have scored any time they felt like it. Chase and Stevie when they chose to drive essentially got to the rim every time as well.

Thers no need to drive and kick when the drive gets you 2 feet from the basket unguarded.

Marquette didn't have a triple double as a team.

That is what appealed to me as a fan the most last night. You could have added that it was their worst defensive effort of the year, as well. This is the kind of team that a Wojo-led squad would have struggled to beat by more than 6-8 points. Yet it was a blowout almost from the start.

Before the season, I thought losing TK and Oso might really hurt. But we may very well be a better team this year - especially if Parham and Owens develop to give us a solid bench.
