So, where are all the "it's only one game Ben" types?

I hope he gets it together, because 19% against our three cupiest-cupcakes ain't gonna cut it.

It's not close to what TyKos passing was last season and the one before.

I'd be shocked if the quality of looks is as good this season but I obviously can't quantify that, cue the stat nerds...
Wait until we actually play a normal team. These are 300 KenPom squads.

I mean it's no slight to Kam, Tyler was the best passer this university has ever seent.

Agreed.

But that's not the reason Jop's missing shots. Multiple times he has missed wide open with a perfect pass. As wades said, it's college basketball.

Shaka said in his presser that the players make those shots in practice, that they trust them and want them to take them.    Unhappy with Joplin, the rebounding, and the commitment to doing the things that beat the zone.

IMO, the zone made MU stand still and hold the ball, which is never good.

He made shots against good teams a bunch of times last season.

Based on his track record, there's no reason to think improvement isn't coming.

Was hoping for more consistency so that's a fair concern.

It's early (duh) but Shaka may come to regret his decision not to go get some size in the portal.

I think they intentionally moved away from that since it wasn't really seen as a stength of Kam's.

I was having Butler flashbacks with the bricks we were throwing up from the perimeter. We're not going to win games with 65% of our shots being from beyond the arc. But, a close game early on is good to have with the schedule getting tougher.

I doubt he regrets anything with regards to transfers.

MU is 3-0.
MU will continue to shoot open 3s.

MU needs to get better attacking the zone.  I would rather see Chase or Stevie flashing to the foul line, allowing Kam to get to an open area.

A zone wins when the offense stands still.

You don't want Gold/Joplin to shoot 3s, you don't want them to dribble, and you know MU doesn't run post ups.  Ummmm.....  bring back Markus-ball?

The long term success of this team will be determined by bench production.

We're not going to turn into a mid-range shooting team.

Last night I thought a lot of our drives were poor. We were either out of control, praying for a whistle, and getting blocked, or to timid thinking we were going to get blocked and just stopped before we kicked it out, allowing the defense to reset.

If we're not shooting mid-range and our drives aren't working, threes are the only thing left. I can't remember a single "bad" three that we took, they were all either open or wide open, we just need to get back to hitting them at a higher clip.

I'll stick with my opinion on Gold.  He'll be in foul trouble within the first eight minutes.

Yep.  Literally just this.  We are getting the looks, and if the ball falls at a normal rate last night Marquette wins by 15+ and no one is worried.

The George Mason game was closer than the score indicated and the Central Michigan game was closer than we would have liked. The one bright spot of yesterday's game was the play of Parham. I think will know what kind of team we have after the next 3 games.

Let's maintain perspective here.

WE WON! Good teams find ways to win when everything isn't going as planned or hoped. We won last night with two of our shooters that were colder than a starving polar bear. We won last night because we did what most great Marquette teams did -- played defense.

Move on. I'm sure Shaka will make adjustments as necessary to keep us going strong!

Having watched Tony play his entire career, he was very good, but did not run as dynamic an offense as Tyler did.

Just as long as it is not pick and poop, like last night.

The deer-in-the-headlights look when they faced the zone is what bothered me the most among the problems last night.

Joplin with the 0-fer from the floor. In 32 minutes, Joplin had 3 rebounds. Lowery had that in 17 minutes. Parham matched Gold's rebound total while playing only 13 minutes. Joplin did have three steals. Guys have off games and Joplin and Gold certainly did last night.

I know its one game, but against decent teams, (like the 3 game stretch coming) we cannot get zero production from 4 guys. Zaide, Tre, BG and Jop did nothing on offensive end. Good teams will take away Kam and say "let your other 7-8 guys beat us".

I hear what you're saying brother dgies but we have to get more production from Ben.  My take is we need to make a concerted effort to get him a bucket closer to the rim.  There's also no rule that I know of which states if you can get a shot off from behind the 3 point line, shoot it immediately within .5 secs.  We simply must exercise more patience.

There are rhythm triples and launch triples.  I get we missed many that were wide open on the pick and pop, but the quick launch gets us into trouble at times.  The best play of the game was the pocket dime from Kam to Caedin.  As for the polar bear analogy?  I will give you a pass.  Tremendous animals with insane strength and power.
