I think Shaka seemed fine with the shot selection though.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Honestly, Jop's 0-10 3fg was the only reason last night's game was close.

Rest of the team shot 10-26 (38.5%) on threes.  That's an acceptable result.  Needed Jop to just hit 2 or 3 and the team shooting would have been fine.

10-19 (52.6%) on 2 fg.  That's not great by MU's standards but it's respectable enough.

MU shot 25 FT and forced 24 TOs, both excellent numbers.  Making 20 out of 25 FT was very efficient offense.  And the TOs offset the defensive rebounding issues (38% O-reb rate for CMU).

Overall, MU checked a lot of boxes for a 15-25 point win.  Jop's shooting was the variable that kept the final score much closer.

Zaide has been really good defensively, but man, that set shot is broke.

Team wide issue. Too many have totally inconsistent releases on their shots. Ben pains me to watch. He leans back and pushes a line drive at the hoop. He may make them in practice, but I think he tops out at a 30-35% 3 point shooter.

Ben shot 2/9 from 3 yesterday and increased his season three point percentage by nearly 3%. Yikes.

From my vantage point, it looked like some of the guys were specifically looking to feed BG to get him 3 pt shots.  Kam especially kept looking his way when setting up plays.  I don't think that's the normal offense, I think he was trying to get BG going.  Thus, I'm not AS worried about "big" games since this isn't quite the offense we'll see for those.

Shaka postgame. Mentioned Stevie has been battling a lingering injury.

Also a major cliff hanger by the media team. Shaka was asked about Damarius at the end of the video and he said he has a few more boxes to check with the trainers but they are hopefully that can happen in the next few days, and if it does he will be able to pl.........

Didn't specify Stevie's injury other than it is lingering.

Damarius was dunking the ball pregame in the layup line. I sure hope he is back soon.

I get it that Shaka wants Ben outside to open the lane for slashing & cutting, but at some point scouting reports will say clog the lane and let BG launch away. Teams such as WI will play man, so though Ben won't get shots, they also won't zone it and fall back. Maybe BG can drive it a time or two. But, BG needs to hit some, obviously. Jop? 0-11 last night might be 10/11 on Friday.

It's not close to what TyKos passing was last season and the one before.

I'd be shocked if the quality of looks is as good this season but I obviously can't quantify that, cue the stat nerds...
Wait until we actually play a normal team. These are 300 KenPom squads.

I mean it's no slight to Kam, Tyler was the best passer this university has ever seent.
Now that...is likely an understatement. With all due respect to Sam Worthen and Tony Miller

I can't believe we don't have an inside presence because Shaka wants to be a "family". Total Dabo move. Where did the self-imposed "no transfers" concept come from anyways? It's very recent. Shaka's best player here, TKO, was a transfer.

If you don't think the team could use another big body down low, you are blinded by blue & gold glasses. Frankly, the "family" would be a lot happier and stronger with one "adoption" haha.

And no, I'm not just reacting to this game. We are going to get abused in the Big East inside. You really think this team can play inside night in and night out in our league?

He's accepted one scholarship transfer since his first year here where he had to fill out a roster. He would clearly rather recruit and develop his guys.

That game was pretty ugly.  Played well for about 5 minutes of game time.

They handled George Mason on the interior just fine, and their bigs were better than CMU.

It was honestly just a crap effort last night.

I think our PnR game has potential.

That first half Kam bounce pass to Parham in the lane and #13 going up with a quick leaning floater... that looked eerily familiar for some reason.

Quote from: DoctorV on November 11, 2024, 11:27:56 PMThe 5 in the Nevada/Shaka offense is "meant" to be a ball handling 5 that can stretch the floor, catch and read, pass effectively and survey the entire floor to help run the HC offense, with the ability to catch and finish at the hoop and with the threat of the catch and shoot in the pick and pop.

Things change, personnel changes, so it's all fluid.

As you said, things change, personnel change, it's all fluid.  I don't think there is a particular Shaka offense.  I think what you've seen from Shaka's offense at MU is just a product of having a 5 that plays the way you described. He'll change it up to match the skills of the players.

Quote from: MuggsyB on November 12, 2024, 08:59:33 AMI hear what you're saying brother dgies but we have to get more production from Ben.  My take is we need to make a concerted effort to get him a bucket closer to the rim.  There's also no rule that I know of which states if you can get a shot off from behind the 3 point line, shoot it immediately within .5 secs.  We simply must exercise more patience.

There are rhythm triples and launch triples.  I get we missed many that were wide open on the pick and pop, but the quick launch gets us into trouble at times.  The best play of the game was the pocket dime from Kam to Caedin.  As for the polar bear analogy?  I will give you a pass.  Tremendous animals with insane strength and power.
Well you're going to have to go sit with Shaka and Nevada to make your point, because they want Kam, Gold, Jop and now it seems, Ross and Stewie to shoot the 3 as soon as they're open. They want lots of possessions... Polar Bears go after people, very mean animals.

Thus team needs lots of work and help. What will they do when they play quality teams that can shutdown Kam. Chase and Mitchell look solid, but there is no help from the bench, except maybe Parham. And how about putting their centers ass down low instead of him jacking up clothesline 3s? Might that be something? Maybe or maybe not. May not be his game. And Jolpin? So inconsistent and then they think he can dribbledrive to the basket, which many times ends up in a turnover. We have played 3 cupcakes and a bunch  of people think we are the real deal. Right now we are a 7th or 8th place BEast team.
Hop Shaka Kahn has some solutions.

Ok ... all doom and gloom ... 3 games into the new season with 2 new starters and Kam in a new role. And we're 3-0, ranked 15th in the country.Think we should maybe give it a few more games. My keys to improving are getting Owens and Sean healthy enough to contribute and seeing Hamilton and Parham get more comfortable.

That's nothing new. A product of the way they defend. They will never have an elite rebounder numbers wise in this system...doesn't mean the players they have aren't good rebounders.
