It appears the Secret Service did their jobs, spotted the anomaly, and responded appropriately.

If the guy didn't shoot at anyone, the secret service overreacted. Again, as insane as it is, open carry long gun is completely legal in Florida. Until he shoots he's within his rights.

That seems just a tad bit psychotic

Not if they saw an immediate threat and in this case, it was pretty clear it was an immediate threat.

Open carry doesn't allow one to use a weapon as a threat or raise it in a threatening manner as this guy did.

That said, I hope the gun finds a loving home

And if it's true that the Secret Service fired first the man was well within his rights to shoot back thanks to our lovely stand your ground law.

I've learned well from folks here.
And seriously our lax gun laws here make law enforcement difficult.

No!!!!!

It's great that a guy who has had more than 100 criminal charges can get a military weapon to fire at will.

Given the common characteristics of those who keep trying to assassinate the former president, shouldn't he be leading the charge to deport gun-loving, white, male American citizens?

I mean, can you imagine what he'd be saying if these were Haitians or transgender people?

No, because unlike in the case of the pets, the gun wasn't harmed, so all is good.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Maybe the would-be shooter got access to the golf club via Gun Club Road through Gun Club Estates, in Florida... which has permitless carry

Huge Ukraine backer.  He went there and they sent him back.
Criminal history.  WMD charge?  Would like some details on what the WMD was.

Odd duck.

Georgia doesn't have a red flag law, that's why.
What would you have had law enforcement do in this specific case?

Sowing is so much more fun than reaping.

The courts, at least where I live, are looking skeptically on Stand Your Ground defenses. They're looking at proportionality and at the state of mind of both parties when SYG is used as a defense.

Our gun laws in Florida are crazy. Our state hands out concealed carry permits like water. Sometimes, I think my wife and I are the only two unarmed persons in the state.

Wish the courts had looked at the SYG defense skeptically when George Zimmerman disobeyed orders and continued to stalk Trayvon Martin.  Now the guy profits by signing guns for FL gun owners.

The WMD was the fully automatic 'machine gun' in the barricading/police standoff event in NC. This link is just a relink from my post above

Musk X'd a post "musing" why nobody tries to assassinate Biden or Harris.

He deleted it several hours later, perhaps after the Secret Service found out about it,

These people support crazies having guns. They are against crazies using said guns. Kind of a tenuous position to maintain.

He's just asking questions and then lamenting on people not having a sense of humor when he was obviously yelled at.

Driving a rental car  (meaning no satellite radio) through Ohio (in between Columbus and Dayton) and landed on the local talk radio. Caught the last 5 minutes of a rant about the alleged shooter, and how Kamala/Biden caused this. Commercial break- the program was sponsored by the local gun dealer, Now that deer hunting season is coming soon, had new shipments of AR's with the ability to modify to add larger caliber bullets.

I always stream Sirius XM on my phone through to my car rental.
