I for one, would love to see a thread on the merits, problems, bad defense strategies, etc., for the historic cases that have been unfolding. But I don't think that should be this thread.

I'm not sure if we could keep a separate thread on that topic open, but I'd love to see the discussion involving some of the more keen legal minds on here.

Separate from that, given this is an election year that is fraught with controversy and problems, I almost wonder if it would be worthwhile for the Mods to open an election board (much like the deservedly abandoned political board), so that discussions on the election don't spill over into every other thread too much.

This is true. But, the evidence that sealed the case was all documentary. The defense could not argue that the documents were fake-- you had Weiselberg's handwritten notes memorializing the crime, for instance--so I don't know what avenues they had open to them.

Basically, they thoughtfully documented all their crimes.
