Lots of putting cart ahead of horse - but if we're a protected seed is Indy the most likely/only feasible location for our first round game? 5 hrs from MKE. Pitt and Omaha next closest at 8 hrs. Or is it just a fool's errand to try and speculate at this point?

Yes, too early to speculate. It all depends on what protected seeds are above MU.

For example, if Purdue and Wisconsin are higher seeded they would take the Indy spots.

If MU were to be a 4 seed, they might be stuck with whatever is left after the other teams are placed.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Indy is the closest site.  Purdue will be one protected seed there.  Right now, Wisconsin would be the second protected seed.  That's who MU needs to pass.

Omaha is 2nd closest site.

Galway Eagle

Memphis is slightly closer than Pittsburgh by like 15mi.

I think we can and will get a protected seed and get to play closer to Milwaukee, but if not I'm obviously rooting for Charlotte.

Well, a major reason why I don't want Charlotte is that we'd probably only be assigned there if we weren't a top-4 seed.

Right now we'd be going to Omaha. Our top choice is Indy, but we'd have to get ahead of Bucky to go there.

At the moment, I have them at 7 and us at 8. Probably comes down to how we perform in our remaining big three games (Marquette: @UConn, @Creighton, UConn / Wisconsin: Purdue, Illinois, @ Purdue). The combination of winning those games, not slipping up against the middle to bottom of the leagues, and winning a league and/or conference tourney title will determine it.

In short...no idea.

Really would love Indy. Had an absolute blast there when I went for a long weekend to see the game @Butler last season for a birthday trip. Found some great places to dine while I was there and wouldn't mind revisting a few of them that week. Make it so, brew  ;D

Side trip idea...total eclipse early April passing right near Indy. Clouds likely but if you like the city, have a good extended weekend anyway. Watch MU play in the final 4 at a nice place, etc...😁

This is correct. Creighton's top-3 locations are Indianapolis, Memphis, and Pittsburgh because they cannot play while hosting, just like Marquette could not play at Fiserv if we hosted.

So Brew - as long as we stay ahead of Bucky and don't collapse, are we pretty much assured 1st weekend in Indy? Are there any other location stealers out there among the top 16?

Looking at seed lists the only other schools that even remotely make sense for Indy are Kentucky (not going to be seeded high enough), Dayton (they'd probably have to win out and get a lot of help), and maybe Tennessee (but there are other closer locations for them).

So yeah, its Illinois and Wisconsin.

As far as Indy, the competition is Wisconsin, Creighton, Illinois, and Dayton, primarily. The Jays are hosting Omaha so they cannot play there.

It's also possible if Omaha fills early (say Kansas and Iowa State get ahead of us) that some B12 teams could be in line for Indy, but I think those ones are the main teams to keep an eye on.

94Warrior

Barring a major late Feb swoon by the Warriors, Wisconsin isnt within striking distance.  Probably more likely to see them in a 2/7 matchup than them stealing our seed.

Isn't it a real possibility at this point that MU could be a #1 seed outside of Indy? Or how about overtaking Purdue and claiming the top seed in their home state?

First weekend sites are no longer tied to specific regionals.  Marquette could be the 1 seed out West and still open in Indy.

Almost certainly not. The first weekend sites do not correlate to regions. If Marquette gets to the 1-seed line, here's how that would play out:

1) Purdue: Indianapolis pod in Detroit regional
2) UConn: Brooklyn pod in Boston regional
3) Houston: Memphis pod in Dallas regional
4) Marquette: Indianapolis pod in Los Angeles regional

The first weekend, we'll go to the closest available site out of 8, the second weekend we'll go to the closest available site out of 4. There is no connection between where you play the opening weekend and where you play the second weekend. Though it seems highly likely that if anyone other than Arizona gets the last 1-seed, they will likely end up with Arizona as the 2-seed in the West.

I still have problems playing in Indianapolis.

I get that in 2003, we defeated Holy Cross and Missouri in Indianapolis on our way to the Final Four. And, I'm sure there have been other great MU wins over the years in Indianapolis.

But I have nightmares about a certain game in March 1978.

NEVER, EVER, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

How much Indianapolis had to do with it, I don't know. But, that city has bad vibes!!!!

You have a sample set of 1.

Statistically speaking, that's outside the bounds of a predictable jinx.

Moreover, at one other game that both you and Newsdreams attended last year when I was present, Marquette won. Ditto for the home game immediately before.

Good statistical evidence requires a much larger sample set to evaluate a "jinx," as any good Jesuit educated business student would know. Did you get your degree at Notre Dame or something?

Wish I could say the same.

Watched 'em defeat Ohio University in 1972 in Knoxville.
Watched 'em lose to Indiana in 1973 and then destroy Fly Williams and APSU at Nashville.
Watched 'em lose to Duke in the 1990s in Knoxville in what became O'Neill's last game,
Watched 'em defeat Missouri, Holy Cross in Indianapolis in 2003.
Watched 'em defeat Pittsburgh and Kentucky in Minneapolis in 2003.
Watched 'em lose to Michigan State in Winston-Salem
Watched 'em defeat Syracuse in Cleveland
Watched 'em lose to Tulsa in St. Louis

I'm sure I missed a couple but these are the ones I remember. Record is 7-4 when I attended.

Didn't turn it back on until I got to the hotel in Jupiter and, lo and behold, WE WON!

I nearly fell over and found a show that rebroadcast the last minute of that game.
