Floodgates to ruination were already open a few years ago when the Baylor basketball coach was not only allowed to cheat his arse off but was rewarded with a title for his rampant cheating.

College athletics have been ruined about two dozen times in my lifetime.  It's crazy how few people watch or go to college football and basketball games.  When schools do start paying players directly, that should be the last straw for the 5 college athletics fans remaining.

The horses left that barn awhile ago. Enjoy the games and set aside the business stuff.

Plus you can enjoy the freedom to complain about how they play now, just like other pro athletes.

Eight SEC teams averaged over 88,000 a game last season.

I was surprised to see nearly 25K for UConn, up 11% last year and nearly 30% over five years.

The way people have talked about their football around here, you'd have thought they played before only a few hundred people.

That has to be tickets sold and not actual in person attendance. I have family who has UConn football season tickets and besides opening night, they said there was no more than 7-10k in attendance at any game.

If that is accurate, that means half to 2/3 of the tickets sold to various games went unused.

The season tickets are incredibly cheap - you can get lower level behind UConn bench, first ten rows, for $215 plus whatever the donation is. I went to a game last year and paid $1 before fees for row 5 50 yard line. I have zero doubt they are selling many tickets at those prices, but the actual in game attendance is a massive question mark.

Does UConn have some kind of tie in with basketball?  Like, buying football season tickets helps you get better seats for basketball games?    A point system similar to MU's?

Also could be student tickets sold really cheap...then they don't show up cause they have to bus to the games.

Define "ruination of college athletics as we knew it." What is going to be ruined and how?

hey as i said, just saying, but i am going to continue to be a fan but this whole pay thing is getting more ridiculous that's all

So it's not really going to be ruined at all.

sold or just distributed, e.g. giveaways to organizations. That UConn keesp throwing money around to be a crap FBS team instead of going back to FCS where it would be cheaper and more successful shows that they believe football is king and they need it to get into a Power 4 conference (ACC) and avoid being left behind.

I mean they might get an ACC invite but theyll still be left behind.  No way the ACC is still a power football conference 12 years from now

There is a system - not sure what it is. But yes, if you buy season tickets for hockey, football, etc., it does help you in seating when it comes to basketball.

He played 28 mpg last year. And now that he is in the ancestral home of Stew "The Legend" Morrill, who knows what he'll be able to accomplish.
